What a winner Ebonite has with this ball! I fully expect this ball to contend for ball of the year. I drilled mine with a 5 inch pin and left the surface as is out of the box. It clears the front very clean and has a very strong continuation backend reaction. Being rev-rate challenged, this ball will give me the look I need on the longer patterns where I have struggled in the past. I can't wait to bowl my next regional on Shark! Thanks Ebonite for another great product! Keep them coming!

this ball is very strong in the backend. I drilled it pretty weak with the pin drilled through my ring and the mass close to a half inch left of my thumb ( right handed ) I drilled it this way to see the full potential of the ball and wow it wants to move. IM sure if I drilled it stronger I would be able to take over the whole lane. I used it in a tournament with the USBC pattern on it and it fit right into what I wish I had out there when I bowled

I had my Evolve drilled to go long , exact drilling as my playmaker. I only threw 3 games today 232 , 243, 268 out the box. this ball carries long and turns very hard. Very forgiving if I missed left (Im a lefty) and it always came back flush. the pin is right above my finger to the left a little . this ball hits harder than my playmaker (read my review on playmaker and you'll see how big a deal that is). I highly recommend this ball. Im starting to like Ebonite more than any other .

Hey Everyone!

What a great ball this is! Provides something Ebonite has been missing...CONTINUATION! This ball definitely provides amazing backend reaction with an extremely versatile cover.

I have hit mine at 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 and 500/shine and 1000/shine (note, i did not progress up with pads, just 500 and shined with factory finish) and this ball gave me SOOO many different looks and motions but never lost its clean reaction through the front part of the lane.

For those that are having issues or not liking it because it doesn't hook enough, I suggest drilling your fingers deeper or a hole. The differential on these balls are already high and if you use a slug/switch grip/IT the diff's just go even higher. Try it out and let me know how much of a different reaction down the lane you get.

Also, check out the Evolve video!

My Evolve is drilled with a 4 1/2 pin to my PAP.  The CG is kicked out with an extra whole.  The ball has the factory finish on it - 4000 abralon sanded.  The drilling is very aggressive for me as I am more of a down and in player.

I have used the ball on several house patterns and the backend coninuation is awesome.  No matter if I am playing down and in or able to move into the lane and belly the ball - I get an aggressive drive to the pins on the backend.  Some equipment will loose its energy and deflect right after hitting the pins, but that is certainly not the case with the Evolve.

I have also noticed that the Evolve's XL1000 coverstock does do just what it was designed to do - reduction in oil absorption.  After using the ball for about 12 games I still have the tacky feel to the coverstock.  This is usually not the case with other 4000 sanded abralon balls.

My compliments to the R&D Department at Ebonite for a job well done!!

Hello everyone,

I am a lefty with a rev rate in the mid 300s. I throw between 16-19 mph depending on the condition. I have 7 degrees of axis tilt and my axis rotation varies. My personal PAP is 4 7/8" over and 5/8" up.

I have drilled up two Evolves.

Evolve #1
(Dual Angle Layout)-30 X 5" X 70. extra hole 1" drill bit 2.5" deep 1" below PAP.
Surface is kept between 500 and 1000 grit abralon.

Evolve #2
5" pin to PAP below fingers, 5.5" MB to PAP, CG near grip center, no extra hole.
Surface is kept between 1000 and 2000 grit abralon.

I have thrown these balls on THS, and Shark (2009)

THS- The Evolve is a very strong piece, DO NOT let the core numbers fool you. It may have a higher RG than most high performance balls, but the diff. is right up there with all of the other hook monsters. I was able to stay in the oil and make minor speed/hand position adjustments. I can really only use the Evolve #2 on this type of condition, but I do not need to play 4th arrow in league. I am saving these ball for the slick stuff.

Shark- I had the opportunity to throw Evolve #1 on the Shark in a regional event and it gave me a nice look. I actually went back and forth between Evolve #1 and an NVD (2000 grit abralon, 5" pin to PAP above fingers, MB in thumb, extra hole 4.5" from center of grip through cg 7/8" wide 2" deep). Due to the fact that the Evolve is pin down it allowed me to shut down my angles and stay firm through the front part of the lane which was amazing b/c on longer patterns it's easy to skate past the break point. I'm still learning the "new" shark as I found it to play like a reverse block. There was a puddle outside of ten and inside was toasty. The best strategy seemed to be spinning it through the heads, or throwing harder keeping the ball on line.

I like what I see from the Evolve, but I personally can't use it unless I run into a lot of oil. This is not a bad thing though as I can reserve these pieces strictly for that condition. This ball also does something that I think Ebonite has struggled with in the past and that is "CONTINUATION." This ball goes through the pins very well and never seems to run out of gas despite the strong cover/core combo.

This is Ebonite's premier piece for higher amounts of oil!

Thanks for reading my review and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Another good ball from Ebonite but not one for my bag on the Pro lanes as they just don't have enough friction. When they dry out the ball is fantastic and carries better than anything in my bag but they have to open up first. I need to try it on my SPL's as I have a feeling it would be better on more friction. Drilled it up 35-4.5"-40 and look to have great numbers with this one on the right condition.

WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!! THIS BALL IS AMAZING. i'M NOT A VERY HIGH REV BOWLER AT ALL, I USEUALLY THROW THE BALL AROUND 5-10 5 BEING DRY 10 BEING WET.(LEFT HANDED) THIS BALL ALLOWS ME TO MOVE ANYWHERE WET OR DRY AND THROW THE SHOT I WANT. MY PIN IS TO THE LEFT OF MY FINGER ABOUT AN INCH AND 1/4 HIGH. I BOUGHT THE LANEBREAKER BEFORE THIS AND THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE BEST BALL I HAD EVER THROWN...IT WAS UNTIL THE EVOLVE. THIS BALL HITS THE POCKET WITH UNFORGIVING FORCE AND CARYS LIKE A MACHINE, SENSE MY SWITCH TO EBONITE I'VE THROWN MORE SIX HUNDREDS THIS SEASON (9 WEEKS)( THEN ALL OF LAST SEASON (32 WEEKS). EBONITE STAFF THANK YOU FOR THE AMAZING EQUIPMENT AND YOU HAVE EARNED A FAN FOR LIFE. THIS BALL IS GREAT IN HEAVY OIL AND DOES EXACTALY WHAT I BOUGHT IT FOR YOU WONT BE DISAPOINTED

Put it in my bag to go bowl on the SPL lanes and wow what a difference, practiced the day before league and went 278-280. Came back to bowl league tonight and had a nice 722 clean with the only error being me missing in or with speed. Great ball once you get away from the Pro lanes.

PAP: 5 1/2"
Rev Rate: 250-275 rpm
Ball Speed: 16-16.5 mph
Ball Layout Pic: http://i437.photobucket.com/albums/qq98/marc_kingpin/kdk_0307.jpg

1500 abralon: I was in need of a solid ball that can cover a variety of patterns for medium to med/heavy conditions. Wanted to see how the Evolve would react with a duller surface as a starting ball. On the fresh oil, it handles the oil well but does roll earlier that what I expected. Played straight up the 10 board to start and it has a smooth arc motion and it didn't over-react on the backend. I was also able to play more inside with the Evolve but it tends to burn alot of energy after a few games leaving alot of spare conversions for the 3-6-10 pins.

2000 abralon w/polish: Normally, I don't do well with polished solids but I have to make an exception on this. On a down and in shot it gets through the head very easily and there is alot more backend with the polished on it. I can even move as far as the 18 board and play it at the 5 at breakpoint and the Evolve will still move left with force. The motion is a longer arc but stronger and quicker move off the dry. Sometimes it leaves a single 9 or 10 pin near the end of the night but still keeps itself very consistent. The carry is very good and there is room for error with this one.

Rate This Ball: 9 out of 10
Very underrated ball that has great reaction and a strong backend. I like the polish on the surface better because I get better control with it when I need to adjust. To compare it with my Mission, the Evolve goes longer but the ball motion and backend between the two are very similar but the overall hook I have to give it to the Mission. If you get a chance, try the Evolve out because it's worth a try.

What can I say about this ball it's very strong in the back end and has medium length.  This ball rocks on any heavy shot, sport or house.  I can always rely on it's hooking power downlane.  House conditions are sometimes jumpy for the ball, it will not go into the dry far before changing directions.
Mine is drilled pin up with cg just below.  then lenght works great for the heavy stuff seems like it has midlane like brunswick balls are known for but not a much.  You can tell that the ball is reading the lane before the big break at the backend.

I tried it with factory surface with polish and then it just made the ball alot more snappy downlane but gave me more lenght to play closer to the gutter and on lighter conditions.  I really had to speed it up though to get the backend to hit without splitting.  When it does get to the pocked though it does hit hard and gives me alot of pins flying around.
Great ball and adjustable, carrys great and looks great.
good job EBONITE!!

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS

COMMENTS

Likes:This ball does not seem to overreact. It is not skid/flip. It has a very nice angular hook to it. I tend to play a much straighter line with this ball. I shined up this ball when I got it. I could maybe dull it up and get more hook out of it.

Dislikes: This ball for me does not seem to hook alot. I bought it hoping it would be a hook monster, but I have been disappointed in that aspect. It is a good ball overall. Not my benchmark most nights but it does have it's applications.
