Elite Alien Abduction Video Review
« on: April 17, 2013, 09:20:21 PM »
Video review for the new Alien Abduction. Extremely impressive piece, fits very well between the Espionage and the Gold. Hard off the spot but not uncontrollable. Phenomenal carry as well. Definitely recommend this to anyone!

The ball has some real nice movement.  Wasn't sure what to expect based upon the core, but from what I saw I am very pleased.

Yeah I didn't know what to expect either, but I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. This piece is a definite winner.

Based upon me looking for some more length in my equipment, I can definitely see that the pin high drilling will definitely provide me with the movement that I am looking for.  Based upon my overall style, I would say that I throw the ball similar to the second gentleman in the video.

With that being said, would you be able to explain to me the overall movement effect on the ball when kicking out the CG (clockwise or counterclockwise) as supposed to leaving it lined up vertically with the pin.  I normally have the CG kicked out to about the 5 o'clock position, but to be honest, I only do that based upon much of my previous equipment being drilled that way.  Just want to be educated more on the overall drilling dynamics.  In this specific case, have the pin high (center of middle and ring finger) up to about an inch.

Thanks

Since this is an asymmetrical ball CG location doesn't really matter. It's more important where the mass bias is. Generally speaking, keep the mass bias closer to the thumb will make it stronger on the backend and overall. If you put the mass bias left of the thumb, that'll make it weaker. If you kick it really far out to the right, it'll be strong but more smooth.

For the video, what surface was on the ball?  I just got mine drilled up today, and out of box it is at 1000 abralon.

The balls were all at 4000 abralon

I don't have the ability make a good video, so I can't say too much about these....but I do find it hard to watch videos like this. Based on the lighting/camera angle you can't see the arrows, so it is impossible to tell if the either bowler is hitting close to the same spot with each throw. There is also no mention of what the shot actually is, Fresh THS, broken down THS, a fresh sport pattern, etc. From the looks of it, it is THS since it appears that both bowlers had plenty of room at their breakpoints.

I have an Espionage, and am pleasently surprised by the reaction of the ball and how good it rolls. So I am a fan of Elite. And I know I am in the minority when it comes to watching these videos. I don't care to see a ball strike time after time after time when it is filmed on THS and the bowlers are hitting a different mark and/or breakpoint every shot. I want to see the ball perform on a Sports pattern, or at least one of the USBC Red/White/Blue patterns. Show me it can create room on a tougher pattern, show me it give me back end on a longer pattern, etc.. Showing a ball striking on THS doesn't tell anyone anything really, any ball can do that. On THS, I watched someone average 220 by literally picking a house ball off the rack and throwing it, and he did that over a 2 month period. I am writing this not to bash, but to plead to you and others who have the ability to put these videos together....show the balls on something other than THS. You can have a segment on THS, but show the ball on a tougher pattern too. Show the true potential of the ball and how good it really is by throwing it on something other than THS.

I completely agree with you, but for me personally it's unrealistic to make videos on an actual shot. The centers simply won't put out a shot for me just to film a video. It's frustrating, so I have to use what I have available to me. Unfortunately, that's a house shot.

guffnuh,
I understand. I have just been lucky, I guess, to have houses that would help out when asked. When in TX, the house put out the Nationals pattern for me and some friends to practice on when I asked. Now it was done on lanes 1 &2 on a Sunday morning, so when it was convenient for them (which I totally understood), but they did it. The house I bowl in now put it out as well, multiple weeks, on a Tuesday night (their normally slow night). But I do know some houses won't do that. As I said, it wasn't meant as a slam, and I am glad you took it the way I meant it. I wish you the best of luck in your bowling.
