I actually saw people throwing Elite at a Tournament

Went and watched a friend bowl in a tournament today and I noticed alot of people were using Elite equipment. I saw 3 R47's, 1 R43, 3 Aliens, 2 Cheetahs, 1 Shark,  1 Scorpion, and 1 Chameleon. I was pretty shocked that there was that many people throwing Elite given the all the bad talk I read about. I was pretty impressed with the R47 and the Chameleon. I really wish these balls weren't so expensive because I really want to try them out..

Elite makes thier own covers in the higher end balls but they still use Brunswick cores which by the way are not old cores just lying around waiting to be thrown away like some people like to think.. Brunswick makes cores for other bowling companies as well. (MoRich, Lane#1) although I heard Lane 1 is now made by Columbia. From what I have been told, Elite balls don't die out after 50+ games like so many other so called top of the line balls. From what i've seen, especially from the R series, they don't over/under react and their not that expensive. Oh by the way, 4 out of the top 16 to make match play are all throwing Elite. The guy who's leading the tourny was throwing the Chameleon yesterday and today he's throwing the Viper according to what I was just told..

Brunswick does not design cores for lane#1 and/or Morich...    These companies design their own cores...

Actually, Lane #1 covers aren't made by Brunswick any longer either...  .  

The basic arguement here is that what you are buying is an old Brunswick release (core and some variation of cover) with rediculous price tags.  The balls themselves are probably fine, just overpriced (as you stated).  If you are really set on trying one, look for something used...

I've read alot of posts about Elite equipment on many different sites and theres alot you who claim that Elite is using old Brunswick cores/covers, so my question is. Where are you people getting this information? Do you work for Brunswick? Do you work for another company such as Ebonite, Columbia, etc? Have any of you thrown Elite equipment?
 
I've actually talked with accomplished bowlers who know alot about equipment and throw Elite exclusively. I've talked to Elite reps who know alot more about Elite  than the average Joe on the internet. Ofcourse reps have a job to do and thats sell equipment, so obviously there not going to say anything bad about their own stuff.

I'm not trying to start an argument here or anything, I just want to know where this supposed common knowledge about Elite comes from thats all.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that these two are the same core.  And as a matter of fact, for all of the "Elite cores," you can find a corresponding brunswick ball with a core of the same shape and specs.  As for the covers, is there any reason to believe they are not a previously used brunswick cover?  At the very best, they are a "slightly tweaked" version of a previously used brunswick cover.  When Brunswick produced balls for Lane#1 and MoRich, they either used exactly the same covers or slightly tweaked covers, so there is no reason to believe they would have created an entirely new line of covers for Elite.  

It has long been known that if ordered in a large enough batch, brunswick will produce balls combining any of their cores and covers.  Neo-Tac did it (my favorite ball, the khameleon..which sells for $80 if you can find them), and most recently bowlingball.com has reproduced some of the quantums and zones from years back.  Its my "hunch" that elite simple placed orders for several batches of equipment utilizing various cores and covers from the brunswick line, changed the color schemes, and slapped a few new logos on them.

I private messaged an Elite rep with some questions reguarding their cores and coverstocks and this is what he sent me..

Yes the cores are from old model balls. The R's are old danger zone cores and Quantum cores. The cores are made recent because brunswick had put these cores in the monsters and the zone classics. The PBA balls are for the most part newly created cores.

No mention about the coverstocks. I wonder why? He left his phone number and told me to call him if I had anymore questions.. I;m starting to believe you guys. Something doesn't seem right.

just look at the ball specs! AHH, they have the same numbers, and looks like the same reactions to me. I would not doubt for a minute that you are paying highend ball price for a 5yr old brunswick screamR.  They are a sham, plain and simple, but the balls they put out are good ones so it works.

In my area (San Francisco, California) I never see anybody use this ball. $300 is not very expensive, remember ten years ago some Quantum was sell for $300 also. But the fact is I ask for 3-4 proshop guys, they all say that the ball is made by brunswick.

In this price range, you can have a lot of the ball to choose from, why try something total unknown, all the people say the ball very good and else, I only hear and read from the internet but never sew the player use. If they ready want more people use their product, they should put some ball on promotion, sell around $100-130 to let the people try it. They may lost some money, but if it is a good ball that I think a lot people will come back to use it.
