Black Hammer 2001
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Black Hammer 2001 sets the standard by which all heavy oil balls will be
judged, with a 2.465 RG and .038 differential, and the most versatile cover
stock introduced to the game - Nylothane. Nylothane is the perfect
combination of particle and reactive urethane, which can easily be polished
or sanded to match the lane condition and the bowler's style. The new
compact, explosive HD core (Heavy Density Core) features the densest
material ever put inside a Hammer bowling ball, with a density of 4.50. The
HD core is so compact and dense most drillings will not even hit the core
leaving the core's integrity intact for optimum striking ability. The
specifications are: Cover stock: Nylothane, matte finish; Core: HD core
(densest material ever put inside a Hammer bowling ball); Hook potential:
overall (20), backend (20); Length: 12; Radius of gyration: 2.465;
Differential: .038; Flare potential: 4-6"; Hardness: 73-74 D Durometer;
Weights: 13-16 lbs.

Had this one out last night and figured it was due a review. Got mine used and kept the previous drill, pin below ring and cg kicked out about 3" with a weight hole. Only had to make thumb larger. Not bad for a "used" ball! Read alot of negative on this one and honestly cannot see why? Ball is definitely made for heavy oil. Smooth through the heads and very predictable breakpoint. Hits as hard as any Hammer in my arsenal and that's saying ALOT! On the right conditions this ball will score with anything out there! Would like to get another and drill it different to see what a stronger layout could do. I recommend this one if you can find one for a good price. A solid 9 out of 10.

This is a follow-up review of the Black 2001. I originally gave the ball a 9 out of 10. Would like to ammend that and make it a 10 out of 10. This ball has been first out of my bag this fall season, and the average is up from 203 the end of last season to 218 this season. Ball eats up the heavy first-shift oil, and always comes back for more! I swear the ball just gets stronger the more I use it. Got it used so I have no idea how many games are on it. I have put about 100 games on it since I've had it, about a year. I clean it after every set so it lasts me. Have another (used) waiting to be punched up with a stacked drilling. I'm hoping this one will arc just as hard as my first one which is drilled pin-under with the cg kicked out. Incredible hit and carry, classic Hammer traits, keep this one first out week in and week out! All the engraving is gone from the ball and some people mistake it for an original Black! I tell them no, but it's in the genes!!! Highly recommend this one IF you can find one.
