If it feels like it's saturated with oil it's most likely a Red.

The pink was quite a bit lighter in color compared to the red. Also, the pink had a polished finish where the red was box sanded. Still, as you say, the serial numbers could also help.

None that I am aware of.

I don't think anybody ever kept up with that and, since Faball has been out of business so long now, probably no way to find out from just the serial number.

Best way is by posting a GOOD picture of it and letting some of us old birds have a look. I virtually guarantee someone here can tell by seeing it, but only if the picture is a good one.

Another way is to do a quick hardness test on the coverstock.  Maybe your pro-shop guy or local tournament director may have access to a D-scale Durometer to perform this test.

The Red Hammer should give readings inthe 76-78 range where the Pink would be much harder, around 82-84.

Mechanical durometers made by Shore & Rex are quite expensive, but cheap digital ones can be had in the $30-40 range and seem to be just as accurate.  (Yes I have access to both types).

You could send pictures along with the serial # to Johnny Wonder at Visionary Bowling Company. They have a website.  Johnny was one of the founding owners of Faball.  You could also do the same, but send it to Dennis Baldwin who was responsible for the manufacturing operations at Faball.  Dennis currently owns Hudson Bowl in Hudson, FL (727)233-9918. They also have a website. www.hudsonbowl.com. These gentlemen should be able to provide the information you seek.

99.999% I think it's a Pink. I don't see how it could be anything else.

The only thing "funky" about it is the pin color. I've never seen a Pink with a dark pin color like that.

A Pink has a "different" look to it (to me), and that ball has that "look" to it. That shiny, sheeny quality that was really hard to get any other Hammer ball to have (except the pearl models, and those are quite obvious what they are).

Were there any Pinks made in the late 1990s?

I ask because even in looking at my Blue and Blue Pearl, I don't ever remember seeing a pin on it, let alone a pin colour like that. However, I do remember that the later batches of the Blue Hammer did have red engraving instead of the white, and may have had a noticeable pin on it. If so, didn't most of the later batches come out of Baltimore and Utah?

It's hard to tell from the pic, but I also think it looks like a pink. A rare pin out one, too. Although I've never seen a colored pin like that either. Did you email Jason?

On my super size HD monitor, I'm 100% sure it is pink.
