help with a layout
« on: March 26, 2005, 09:04:19 AM »
i got a deal from my friend for free, so i plugged it up, and i mapped it out to drill, and then my boss said "no, dont do that, let me do it differently". Well, he took my axis off of my saw blade, and did some sort of an off axis drill. Anyway, the pin is right under/in the ring finger with the massbias way far right of thumb.

Anyway, i was just wondering what it will do. It's right on the boarder line for a weight hole, but i left work before i had time to do it, so for now i dont have one. Off hand, does anyone know what reaction i will get from this...i have a feeling it will be a continous arc but im not sure....
Help please

but i thought the other guy told u to lay it out like that?? its just bad ethics to drill a used ball and have it roll over plug. 1) diff material 2) plug tends to have flat spots

but, its your ball not mine.

to your #2, plug only has flat spots when you plug it incorrectly. If you use a dam, and fill the plug above the hole (the dam stops it from spilling all over the place) and then use the router on the drill press and cut it down (the jig that is used is rounder at the bottom to fit the curve of the bowling ball) Once this is dont, you sand the spot like you are resurfacing it and its good as new. No flat spots. The only time you get flat spots, is when you are doing lets say a ball repair, and theres a giant chip in the ball, and you have to drill out all the cracks. And then you pour in the plug, and the spot is so large that when it dries you have a flat spot. And if you have a good pro shop, they would drill out that flat spot and plug it again until they get a nice smooth surface. And to answer your #1, yes teh plug is different material, its urathane. And yes this would affect the way the ball rolls, BUT, the ball only rolls over it in the front part of the lane, and this ball isnt supposed to read in the front of the lane at all....it goes long and thats where all the action takes place.

Agreed BowlerKidR about the plug work.  I can never understand why people are so freaked out over a PROPERLY done plug in the track.  It's only a maximum of 1 3/8" long!!!  And if the track flares off of it after 2 or 3 revs, SO WHAT!!!

the lettering of the ball's loge WILL NOT affect the balls reaction at all. It is like having a track on a new ball already. A track is just scratches and nicks...well...wouldnt a logo sub as a track if placed on the track area? anyway, what im saying is that its ok to have a logo in the track, its not bad, if anything it might even be good for you.

OK, now back to the original question.....
I'm not sure how you throw it, but that is a VERY strong MB position for that ball.   I have been told by my area Ebo/Hammer rep not to go that strong on a DEAL line ball.   I did once, just to see and UGHHHH!   The core is so strong in the ball that it was more powerful than the cover.   It made 2 moves on the lane.

Hope it works better for you.

P.S.  How were you thinking about laying it out?

i didnt care how it was layed out.  Got it free from my buddy...so i plugged it. I originally mapped it up with the pin like this

---*
---O O

-------CG

----0----LMB
Kind if inverted. But when my boss asked me what reaction i wanted he said no, try this. He mapped it off of my PAP on my saw blade. Anyway, its a reaction i didnt have in my bag, and anyway, its only to messaround with. I threw it yesterday but it was on slop and nothing worked. Anyway, i believe its supposed ot have continous arc through the lane.  Anyway, i have speed that is usually at 16 MPH, and somethines in low 15's. I dont have a ton of revs...med to low revs. I really can play anywhere on the lane, up around 2nd arrow being my favorite. Im guessing though that i will have to stand in the oil for this bad boy...or een swing the lane. Anywya, what did you mean by "it makes 2 moves?
