Anybody polished the Scandal?
« on: October 26, 2016, 08:43:20 AM »
I love my Scandal when I get the chance to use it. Problem is that doesn't happen much due to my lane conditions in my area. I was thinking about polishing Scandal up a bit. I have a 1000 abralon  pin down Track Heat Extreme I can use if I ever see a lot of oil somewhere. Scandal reads so early that sometimes it just doesn't have any energy when it hits the pocket. Was also looking at the Scandal Pearl. I was just wondering if anybody out there polished their Scandal to make it more usable. I would really love to use it as a benchmark and go up or down from there. I currently go from most to least in this order:

Track Heat Extreme 1000 abralon pin down
                                                 Scandal pin up OOB
IQ Tour pin up OOB (many many games)
                                                  Hyroad Pearl pin up OOB
                                                    Ride pin down OOB

As my Scandal is my bench mark ball. The lanes in my area is heavy oil. You can't go up, you just can go down. My friend put polish on his ball as we went to a AMF in Pikesville, Maryland where the lanes was medium/dry and that scandal just went straight to the gutter on the leftside. His is pin down also. Now as for the Scandal Pearl that would be your best bet, as I have it and I have thrown it on that dry lane and I am a two hander.
If your lanes are dry/medium the scandal will NOT work

I agree that the Scandal at box finish 500/2000 (with the emphasis on 500) is too much for most conditions unless you're very speed dominant. I've left mine a box hoping to find some condition it matches up to, and so far i've come up empty.

We're about to start a 47' pattern in my sport league, and I think I'm going to adjust the cover to 500/1000/2000, and then possibly 3000 if necessary. I want this ball to work!

Just got the Scandal Pearl and ...wow is all I can say
so, yes, go ahead and polish it.
1000 + polish will still have plenty of teeth
you can go to 2000 or 3000 + polish as well
Polish won't make it hook any less, it will just hook in a different spot

Thanks for the advice guys. I took my Scandal up to 4000 and had success with it tonight. 701 with a 213 start. Ball really picks up lane shine quickly. Think I will leave it at 4000 with some lane shine. Ball reacted different then when it was OOB. More length with a nice back-end reaction. Trying to save my dollars and get the Scandal Pearl next.

Ball never quit on dry. Ball tended to roll out when playing so far out at OOB. Last night with ball at 4000 I got the reaction I have been looking for. Carry was excellent. I am going to let the lane oil shine it up and keep it at 4000. Ball didn't seem to have that early bite it did at OOB surface. Stood 20 and hit around 5 to start. Did have to move but only a few boards left with my feet.  Hopefully the ball becomes more usable for me on more conditions.

OB was 1000 polished and did fine in the oil but was a bit too strong off the spot for my liking. I went to a true 4000 and it seemed to keep the over all strength and oil handling the same but smoothed out the break point slightly.  The ball is a monster off the dry but much more to my liking this way. I put my solid at the same surface just to test out and the pearl is still quite abut longer and stronger off the spot, I'd say about 3-4 boards weaker in comparison on my ths.  The pearl can be a bit much with clean back ends but once they get sloppy it's money. I usually don't have a lot of success with strong pearls, I usually fight a lot of over/under but not this one.  I bought a snap lock which I sold after 3 weeks. This is by far the best "strong pearl" I've ever thrown
