Gas Mask Core & a Hybrid cover?
« on: March 06, 2013, 03:20:50 PM »
I've been a big fan of the Gas Mask core and I've seen it in Solid coverstocks (OG Black Widow, BW Bite, and Taboo), Polished solid (Venom), and Pearls (BW Pearl & 2 different Taboo's)...but does anyone think it will ever come out with a Hybrid coverstock?

I just got back from the USBC Tourney & purchased a Taboo Limited which is a International release that the Hammer booth was selling. I was told at the booth that it has the Taboo gas mask core with the new coverstock of the First Blood which is NBT Hybrid coverstock. I only got to throw it a few times during the tourney but I liked what I seen from it & can't wait to get it for league next week(it's being shipped back). You can check out their Facebook page for info/pics "The Hammer Booth"

With the introduction of their new HP ball the First Blood,I would think that Hammer will probably be phasing out the Gas Mask core.

That's what everyone thought with the introduction of the Jigsaws. They replaced the black widows as the top of Hammer's lineup.

Yeah the guys at the booth said that the gas mask core was done for in the US market. But that core has been around for some time.

So then it may behoove us to pick up those Taboos while we can..

Make it and we will buy it!  I bet, even when they do phase out the gasmask core, that it will be back later because it is just too good to let die.

As much as I'd love to agree, I'd have to disagree. Over the past couple of years, especially with how Ciminelli has been bowling, people have been screaming for the old trustworthy Blue Hammer: updated urethane coverstock, classic Fab Core. We've come close with the new Blue with the Vibe core, but it is entirely different than the version of the Fab days.

So far, the only ball to have that Fab core in any recent time (read: after EBI purchased Hammer) is the Pure Hammer, and I want to say that was a resin cover.. Either way, it really didn't even see the light of day, at least out here on the west coast..

But I would agree on this: make old faithful, and we'll buy it.

The gas mask core, in it's current form, has been available since Jan. 2005.  A lower flaring version of it was first seen in the Big Blue in Oct. 2003.

It's time for something new...

I think they should do a big re-run of the black widow solid before getting rid of it.

The gas mask core has been a big seller for Hammer. If they want to keep using it, I am sure people will buy it. It's up to Hammer, of course, but as long as the core doesn't cost a lot to pour, then I think it's time to move it down to a lower price point to keep it selling well. I don't think people are as excited about shelling out $250 for essentially the same thing over and over again, but move it down to the $200 range and I bet it would fly off the shelves.

I do think they've got their money out of that core.I just picked up a Taboo spare, that ball is awsome on toast!

put the core in the vibes.

No reason, the Vibes already have a proven core.If they did use the Gas Mask at a lower price point,I would think it would still be at the $180-200 range.
