Ball warranty
« on: January 10, 2017, 10:56:02 AM »
The warranty will cover balls that have holes drilled (gripping or balance) that are further than 1” away from the locator pin. Holes (gripping and balance) that are closer than ½” from the locator pin will void the warranty.

My second hammer ball cracked. The first one the hammer replaced it without any hassle. However the second one they said the warranty is void because the it was drilled less than 1" away from the locator pin.  I checked all my balls (more than 20 balls- motiv, hammer, lane one, lane master, storm, brunswick, dv8) and all my balls were drilled very close to 1" or less. They were not all drilled by the same pro shop yet they were all drilled close to 1".
Did all the pro shop operator made mistake of drilling it too close to the locator pin?
I want to hear what is the general opinion about drilling close to 1" locator pin.

By the way my hammer ball is drilled 3/4" from the locator pin...
The warranty states that it will cover if drilled more than 1" and void if drilled
less than 1/2" and what about between 1" and 1/2"???

Can someone explain to me why it is important to drill 1" away from the locator pin?
I have one ball it was drilled with pin locator removed.  Will this ball crack too?

Thanks

I am also curious about that wording as what happens in the 1/2" to 1" range. I think if you completely drill the pin out you're covered but partially drilling it out you're not.

The locator pin is a weak location in the coverstock.  Drilling a hole too close to it gives a greater possibility of cracking from the hole to the pin.  --  JohnP

Let me ask you JohnP,

Do you always drill it more than 1" away from the pin locator?

Depends on the customer.  If I'm dealing with a reasonable person that will accept a repair if the ball cracks to the pin I'll move within 1/2" from the pin.  Otherwise, yes 1" minimum, or completely drill the pin out.  If I have to adjust the layout most times I keep the pin to PAP the same and adjust the pin height to get the 1" distance.  --  JohnP
