Black Widow Assassin vs Legend
« on: July 25, 2014, 03:50:44 AM »
Will the Black Widow Assassin and Black Widow Legend overlap each other if both have their out of box conditions? I know with drilling and modifying the surface you can make almost any ball act as you want, but were these 2 designed to be in an arsenal together?

The Legend is about 4-5 boards stronger overall than the Assassin due to the coverstock being a hybrid cover. It is a little earlier in the midlanes with a strong continuation in the backends.

The Legend is the closest reaction to the original Black Widow...

I have messed with the surfaces on both balls and found that the Legend is really that good & the Assassin compliments the Legend when it starts to be a little too much or burning up, you can pull out the Assassin & keep striking... a great 1-2 punch!

Hope this helps...

Received my Black Widow Legend today, saw my ProShop guy (Shout out to Shane at Pali Lanes for hooking it up) drilled the ball up and threw it for a few practice games with my Black Widow Assassin to compare and see how much I like it.

I like this ball a lot. I got it drilled stronger than my Black Widow Assassin. The Legend provides me more length than my Assassin, but turns the corner so much harder. It also allowed me to play deeper than I am accustomed too. I like the ball, and obviously I haven't thrown it enough to give it a real in depth review but I'm excited to see what I can do with this piece of gear.

Flowing up with my BW Legend. I love the ball but I truly believe that the BW Legend is best on medium oil conditions whether it's fresh or has begun to break down a little. My BW Assassin, for me, is better for medium to medium heavy oil conditions and is better for me when the lanes start to transition. The only time I encounter some difficulties is if the lanes truly have heavy oil on them or the pattern is extremely long (i.e. when I bowled on the badger pattern and had to play extremely direct with my BW Assassin). I am satisfied with both balls and believe they compliment each other well along with my Black/Blue Spike.

I find the comments by EL interesting.

I have not thrown myself but have seen thrown in our house shot.

Some bowlers in the house and have both and have drilled both the same.

My impression of both the look and their comments.  Sligthtly more hook with the legend.  Slightly earlier and more even response off the dry.

In our house which seems to be a strong wet dry the results are incredible for the Legend and more spotty for the more skid flip Assassin.

Those with better results with the Assassin have done so with slightly duller coverstocks than out of box condition.

This video replicates exactly what we see in our house.  The Smoothness of the Legend the slightly more skid snap nature of the Assassin.
Note 50 second mark comparison and the 1:56 mark comparison.
