If your putting too much heat on it, you can be draining plastizers (sp??) out of the ball which in fact will kill the ball. The max heat that a ball can handle is 140 degrees. Anymore will kill the ball. Assuming that its just a heater it probably doesn't have a thermometer to tell you what temp the heat coming out of it is. That is probably the whole problem.

Try this before you throw the ball in the trash. Since your Tornado is hooking alot there is a lighter volume of oil and at 1000 grit the ball is probably burning up and hurting hookability(is that a word). If all the oil is out, start with 500 grit abralon, then 1000 grit, 2000 grit, and finally 4000 grit which is factory box(wet sand). The 4000 grit surface should give you more pop on the backend on this lighter oil pattern although this ball is designed for more oil than your Tornado and Cherry Vibe. P.S. You should only do a oil extraction about every 30-50 games depending on how much oil you bowl on. Good Luck!

It may be too late for trying anything with the surface to bring it back to life. If he's drained the plasticizers out of the coverstock then the ball is toast. It sounds to me like he was using it at higher then 140 degrees. Even on low heat, most portable heaters get pretty damn hot and I wouldn't doubt that this is why the ball has lost reaction.

Sad, but possibly true.

Most blow driers can get over 140 on high, the salon drier shouldn't though.

BP1985,
Take the cover up to 4000 grit and try it before you give up. The hot water bath method is safe and effective.

I would bring the cover down to 360 grit.  Place the ball in a bucket and put it under your bath tub faucet.  Turn on the hot water and let in run into the bucket and over the top into the drain.  Keep the water running until your hot water from the tank get's cold.

You may have to repeat the process a couple times to really get the oil out.  I have yet to see the HOT WATER BATH not work!

The HOT WATER BATH process works really good using the bath tub faucet.  The oil will come out of the ball, float to the top and over the bucket.  Keeping the water going allows the oil to float out of the bucket and into the drain.  I have found this works the best. Keeping the water running over the top of the bucket seems to not allow any oil to mix with the water in the bucket because new water is constantly running into and out of the bucket.  This process pretty much eliminates any chance of the oil being absorbed back into the ball.

I did what chitown mentioned when my BWS died and i tell yuo mines was dead...I took some time. I got it rejuvnated first and then did the Hot water bath process and resurfaced it and brought it up to 3000... the pro shop buy hit the with 1000 and then 2000 and now the ball is hooking like the first day I had it..

Get the Cell. It is a very strong ball and carries great. It definitely needs oil or it will burn up too quickly. It will out hook your the BW by 7-10 boards. I have both ball. Regarding your BW what is the pin distance? The reason I'm asking is because I have a friend who had the same problem. He complained that it didn't hook much for him and all it is good for is for ten pins. I looked at his ball and saw that the pin was only 1 inch. I know most experts states that pin distance distance does not matter but I believe it does. My pro's opinion is that pin distance doesnt matter but he prefers 3-4 over shorter pin. So that means he really feels that it does matter and that he just expressing the opinions of the manufacturers who just want to get rid of their balls whether their pro pin or short pins.
