Coming soon- the Black Widow Urethane
« on: November 16, 2017, 05:26:32 PM »
I saw this earlier today.  Hammer is going to take the Gas Mask core and combine that with urethane to make a pretty sick ball.  Take a look at the link below.

In the videos I've seen on YouTube, the Widow Urethane looks closer to reactive resin while the Hot Cell looks like Urethane. Just my opinion based on what I've seen. I'm debating about getting a Widow Urethane, shop I get stuff from in Vegas has it for $169 out the door

You heading to Bowlersmart, or K&K? I'm about to do the same and grab the BW Gold as well as the Urethane. Both have room in my bag, and I can retire the Fab Blue again.

Last thing I need is urethane but if this ball would have been out a year ago would have bought it.  Great first urethane ball for a smaller arsenal or even a bigger one if need urethane with a strong core.  Have my Sumo for that role because if going asym probably should be using reactive with my lack of hand.

Looking at the Widow Urethane or a couple others

First Hammer true urethane with a 3 year warranty as well not that it really matters.  Not a two piece though.

Not even close to reactive. Widow Urethane is the smoothest, earliest and heavy rolling ball I have ever used. Even the Midnight Scorcher is more flippy in the back end. The Widow just rolls! It is nothing like reactive, nothing. It is pure control urethane with a core that won't stop rolling. I am totally amazed by this ball. I have a large margin of error with it and can play down an in on the same target line and never move my target or feet a millimeter all night and the ball will just keep striking!

If you can get one, do it and drill it as strong as possible to bring out its full potential. I drilled mine to the max and the ball just wont quit.

Here is my Black Widow Urethane demonstration video showing it in action. I am a low rev full roller with low ball speed, yet look how the Widow can carry on a wide variety of good shots and bad:

20 shots more or less, and 20 strikes? Must have been some other shots that didn’t strike, no?

Whoa! Paul made it back into town! May have to take a trip over there! Haven't seen him since he left in the early 2000s after we bowled league at Sunset Lanes before they  revamped as Wildfire!

My friend got the widow urethane and the ball just hooks. He was killing it with his black urethane, but the house got a new oil machine and his regular black urethane would not move.  Resin balls weren't even moving much.  He tried the widow urethane and the ball just hooks at his feet and keeps rolling left.  I don't know if the covers are any different or just the fact that it is new, but I wouldn't think the added flare from the widow core would make that big of a difference.  I guess it does.

I just got this ball yesterday. 9 games in 3 games in I guess you could call it an unofficial sport league. In other words they lay down the PBA patterns change it up every 3 weeks. But to keep the cost down for the bowler they just give a regular USBC sanction.

Anyway 3 games on the bear pattern and 6 open play games in the center I bowl my regular standard House league on Monday nights. Got lucky being a lefty there actually still had some oil at least for the first game and half in open play before I moved the oil around too much.

Anyway I will now point out I am not as good as most of you all. Although people that watch me bowl would disagree based on what I am dealing with physically just to throw the damn ball. But for purposes of this post since none of you well you never know but probably none of you have probably ever seen me throw a bowling ball in my case it is more of a throw then a roll.😆 So based on stat line alone my average is not as good as a lot of you high water mark was 153. 2 years ago had a few issues that complicated things even further for a bit. But after getting over a neck problems which later turned in too 6 weeks of lower back pain. After all that went away. I started bowling better again   and the league secretary of the we will call it unofficial sport league said I should join after he watched me practice for about 2 months during the summer session he said they are not all that serious low average not a problem and given what I deal with watching me is inspirational for other bowlers.

So OK been bowling in 2 leagues since September. But I found because of my walk up to the line plant and throw it down to the arrows before it actually touches the lane style. For me  its not how much oil its how long does it go down the lane. Even on the heavier oil patterns I am already through the heaviest oil most of the time before my ball even touches the lane.

So my reactive resin which is also a hammer in this case the red legend solid really only worked well for me on the really long heavy patterns. So most of the last 9 or 10 weeks I was throwing my old Wearwolf plastic which was OK, but I needed something that had a little more pop since I still face some oil in leauge just not as much as most bowlers then my plastic ball But would allow me to still control my hook. My

My buddy showed me the urathane is sexy add.😆 He was thinking he might like one for himself. But I was thinking 🤔 That ball might work for me given how I throw it.  Now my knowledge of pin placement center of gravity all that is a bit over my head I do know I do better with solid equitment.

Which this ball is.

So I told the guy what I thought I wanted to do on the backend although looking at the PDF drill sheet it appears to be drill pattern 3 fairly strong controlable hook.

So now too the point now that you have at least a rough Idea what I am dealing with

I still want to see how it reacts on Monday in fresh oil because the house I bowl on Monday nights has more lively backends. Sport shot or regular house pattern I have watched enough bowling by players way better then me to know the backwards wear I bowl on Friday nights is not the same.

Anyway first impression of the ball as it relates to my game, and style.

It works well it has enough hook to get wear I want it to go, but I don't have to fight it the way I did with the stronger reactive equipment.

Although wouldn't you know it first week with a new ball my line on the bear pattern went away fairly quickly because the other team had two lefties although I probably effected them too because  urathane tends to move oil as apposed to absorb it.

Not really knowing how to adjust with the ball yet I chose to play conservative not worry about  the score just try to get a decent accent with the exeption of 5 or 6 shots where I totally just Flat out missed my intended target. I did Ok with the ball could have had another 50 pins if not for those 5 or 6 brain fart shots. It don't matter rather its a high powered reactive or a 70 year old rubber bowling ball. If you miss your target as far as I did on those 5 or 6 shots the ball is either going to go in the gutter or get a low count sometimes its the ball and more often then most care to admit its the bowler.😆😎 Two my credit though 2 of those brain fart shots came after a spare so out of anger at myself I then put the following shots dead solid in the pocket for a full rack spare both times.🤔 Would probably average 40 pins higher if I could maintain that concentration level every shot.

As for how the open play went well as the lane dried up and it was just practice. I decided to get brave move way right and throw it more inside wear I figured there would still be some oil, and with the livelier backends I could probably make it still work and it did.

We will see what it does for me on Monday night and Friday on the Chetta pattern. Supposedly only 35 feet. Oh well I will have the plastic ball with me too regardless for the F en 7 pin which like most left handers I struggle with no matter what the lane condition. League tournament or bone dry late night cosmic bowl in the Dark no matter which ball I use I will struggle with the 7 and sometimes 4 7 combo spaces. But again that is the bowler not the ball.😎

PS I know this was a long winded post thanks for reading.😊

THIS IS NOT YOUR FATHER'S URETHANE

I have the tank rampage also and the B/W is easily five boards stronger. The tank is strictly up the boards only but the black widow can do both. matter of fact swinging it seems to be the best method of attack. If you don't have a urethane ball make this your first!

Any idea how the widow urethane compared to the Hot Cell.  That ball seems strong but from what I've seen the Widow Urethane may be stronger.

If it wasn’t for me having my hustle and tag cannon, I would be all over both the black widow urethane, and the Hot Cell;   They would both fit for what I like to do and what I see on various patterns.

Can any of you smarter then me bonkers tell me what drill pattern is this is mine. It seems to work well for my so called bowling style. But I know next to nothing about Drill pattern and pin placement. I would like to know how this is drilled so next time ifI but another ball and get a different ball driver. I can say I want X instead of I am not sure.😆
