Doom layout
« on: March 03, 2008, 02:30:12 PM »
My new Doom comes tomorrow. Looking for a drill layout. I know it is difficult to say but id like some ideas. I want this ball to turn the corner. I'm a tweener throw around 15.5-16 mph. I like to stand around 3rd arrow and throw it to 6 with a nice, strong move on the back into the pocket. What type of drill layout should i consider? Again, i want this ball moving on the back. Thanks

I'm a tweener too.  One of my favorite layouts for skid/BOOM is 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 pin high.

pin above the finger line on the Doom will definitely make it turn the corner for you, heck I've got mine at 4 1/2 witht he pin UNDER the ring finger...it it STILL turns the corner well.

Would this layout be close to one of the layouts in the Hammer Drilling instructions?

Mine is laid out with the pin above the bridge (5 1/4" from pap), cg is kicked out a bit and a weight hole on my pap to take the side weight to right around 1/8 neg to get it a little less crazy on the break. It definitely is still strong downlane for me though.

It's hard for me to suggest layouts without seeing you bowl but I will try and give you some suggestions.

I would use a "pin up placement" because that's going to give you a quicker response to friction.  Now some bowlers like to use balance holes because they help the ball rev up quicker at the break point.  So keep that into consideration.

I have owned a total of 7 DOOMS and 4 at the same time.  The DOOM that gave me the most backend recovery, had the pin above the bridge 5.5" from my pap, CG kicked right to almost 1oz of side(about an inch right of grip center) and NO balance hole.  If I were to drill a DOOM for myself with the purpose of getting the strongest backend recovery, I would place the pin above my ring finger 5" from my pap.  Again that's what I would do for myself.  When I drill bowling balls with the pin 4.5" or closer to my PAP the backend recovery starts to decrease and mid-lane strength increases.  Once again that's what happens with me.  I'm talking about symmetrical bowling balls.  Asymmetrical bowling balls are a completely different animal when it comes to layouts.

It's hard to suggest drill layouts because of the many factors that go into a balls reaction for a particular bowler.  However, if there's any bowling ball that I really know it's the DOOM!

I imagine this ball will be discontinued sometime in the near future.  I don't currently own a DOOM anymore but will make sure to grab several before it's discontiued.  The DOOM is one awesome bowling ball!

It will be for a lighter medium house so i dont want it to burn up to quickly or to be unmanageable in the back.

Control is one thing you WON'T have to worry about with the DOOM.  The DOOM is the most controllable pearl reactive i've ever owned!

The DOOM's box surface is 4000 abralon polished with Ebonites Factory Finish polish.  For this ball to burn up, the lanes would have to be toast.  If anything the ball will be too strong for the condition before it burns up.

Any bowler reading this that still has never rolled a DOOM is really missing out on one hell of a bowling ball!

I have my doom drilled up Label Leverage, and the thing is a monster. I throw it about to the 10 board and I know it will come back everytime and just smash the pocket. Its my most consistant ball. Its usually the first one out of the bag
