Hammer ball compared to Roto Rising Star
« on: April 26, 2011, 02:46:00 AM »
I have the top part of my arsenal together (I think). I'm looking for medium to light condition balls to fill out the rest of it. I have a Taboo and Infection so I want to stay with in the Hammer line. I was considering the Rising Star by roto grip, what hammer ball is similar to it. Thanks

I do not know enough about the Rising Star to give you a comparison. The Midnight Vibe will fit right in line for what you need.  The Midnight vibe is designed for medium to light conditions but is a lot more ball than most people think. You will not have to change the surface on this ball for the conditions you are wanting it for. All I can say is, the Midnight Vibe gets through the heads clean and has all of the back end motion you will need. I can not think of a better fit to be below the Infection.

The Midnight Vibe would be what you are looking for that is comparible to the Roto Rising Star.

I have seen both balls thrown by a medium rev player and the Midnight Vibe is cleaner with a stronger motion in the backends than the Rising Star which is a little rolly movement that I saw.

The Midnight Vibe is definately a great rolling piece and is a little stronger in the backends than advertised with that Shredder cover. You will not be disappointed in the Midnight Vibe!

It is going to be tough to get a ball to compare with this ball in our product line. The Rising Star is a hybrid cover so it won't be as skid/flippy as most light oil balls. The closest thing in the Hammer line that would be comparable would be the Onyx Vibe. The Onyx was a solid cover so won't be as skid/flippy as the Midnight Vibe and a little closer to what you would get with the Rising Star. Hope this helps.

HammerTech - Wouldn't a Blue Backlash be closer than an Onyx Vibe?

Having thrown all the balls discussed here, this would be my opinion as well.

But will the Onyx being a solid still have a strong backend and handle medium to light conditions without a cover change? I didn't know the Rising Star has a hybrid cover, thanks. The Midnight Vibe won't be as strong as the Star over all, but will backend more. I got it.

Thanks for the comments guys. Anymore?

Blue Backlash is going to be too weak compared to the Rising Star. The Onyx Vibe is still going to be clean enough through the fronts since it is polished to recover downlane. The Rising Star isn't too skid/flippy since it is a hybrid cover and that is why the Onyx is the closest thing to it in the Hammer product line for medium to medium dry conditions.

Good explanation, thanks HammerTech. I didn't want to ball down to far. I'm a lefty and usually have oil. I've been lost in the transition. Maybe I will get a midnight to go below the Onyx.

I love my Midnight VIBE on Medium Light conditions.  I had mine drilled mine drilled strong with the pin on the VAL side of my Ring finger and up and I do get alot of movement on the back end as expected.    I have no complaints as it is one of my favorite balls.

Perhaps the Hammer guys can give a recomendation on how to drill depending how "tame" or "strong" you want it to be.

It's a great ball.  Good choice.
