Hammer Ball Speed Differences

Does more skid increase or decrease ball speed?

I recently changed to a pro release in order to generate higher rev’s. I have been pleased with the results but noticed something interesting. When I throw the Scandal my ball speed is around 17 mph but when I throw the Arson low flare at the same house and on the same condition my ball speed is around 14 mph. I thought the Arson would have more speed since pearls skid further which I thought aided speed. Perhaps I have it backwards or need to take other things into consideration.
Arsenal:
Scandal
Impact
Arson Low Flare

That's a really big difference when there shouldn't be. Speed isn't going to change significantly when switching between balls assuming you're throwing them similarly. For skid it's not so much about pearl vs. solid vs. hybrid as it is surface vs. polish.

If I had to guess it's that you're subconsciously easing up on the Low Flare in comparison to the Scandal because it doesn't hook as much. Have confidence in the Arson working like it should stepping down from the Scandal.

Unless you were on the same pair on the same day, speed guns on different pairs can be very different.

In any case, treat the speed on any one pair, not as an absolute, but as a measure of your speed consistency on that day, on that pair.

But, yes, the more and the earlier a ball hooks, the lower your ball speed will be. The amount it hooks as well as how soon has more to do with the change in ball speed, from somewhere around the arrows to the pin area.
