Hammer Arsenal?
« on: April 13, 2017, 03:14:05 PM »
Hey all, I'm getting new equipment and am looking at Hammer products. I normally play THS, but might get into tournament. I am a 350 rev 16 mph tweener with minimal tilt. I need a 3 ball bag that will cover most conditions I might see. Any recommendations are appreciated!

Hammer is lacking with their lower-end current equipment for drier lanes right now. It's hard to recommend a Black Urethane, Purple Pearl Urethane, Blue Hammer, or Burgundy Hammer in this scenario. They're all more of a specific motion/piece added to a larger arsenal as opposed to being a good option in a standard bag. So that leaves the Rebel, which is a smooth piece with length that doesn't overreact. It could still be a bit stronger than the intended use though. Just depends on how comfortable a person is moving in and finding the oil.

For the ball in the middle with the more moderate reaction and likely the one seeing the most use I would go with the Rebel Solid. I actually think Hammer is lacking a good variety of options here too but this one fits that role really well anyways. It's stronger than the original with a solid, surfaced cover that handles medium amounts of oil well. Nice motion on the backend too.

What Hammer doesn't lack are options for heavier amounts of oil. The Gauntlet, Scandal, Dark Legend Solid, and Rhodman could all fit here. I think the Scandal Pearl, Phobia, and Dark Legend are a step below the first four but above the Rebel Solid and don't have a great fit in a 3-ball bag. I would probably go with the Gauntlet at the top since that one seems to be the strongest, yet most versatile out of the bunch. You can move in deeper with it without worrying about it not kicking out the corners (until it's too dry for the ball at least). The Dark Legend Solid would be my next best bet for similar reasons, although it's not as strong overall as the Gauntlet.

For a 3 ball Hammer arsenal... Here is what I would recommend based on the info you provided...

Gauntlet - Heavier oil ball that will not burn up and you can chase the oil left if needed.

Phobia - This is a versatile pearl ball that works amazing for all styles of bowlers

Burgundy Hammer - This ball is very underrated and is a versatile ball that evens (smooths) out the backends on a wet/dry house shot pattern and with a surface adjustment to 2000 abralon from the 500 grit factory surface... this ball can be used for a later league shot where you don't have to be inside of 4th arrow...

If you want to wait until the summer (July / August), I'm sure Hammer will be releasing some lower end equipment as that is when they usually do for the new seasons.

Hope this helps....

I heard a rumor about the next releases and you should be pleasantly surprised!

With the Viral Hybrid being retired I figured something for lighter oil was coming fairly soon. Just isn't really anything like that for Hammer right now unless you want to go with one of the four I mentioned above, and I'm not sure any are all that easy to fit into a smaller arsenal.

I'm hoping for something that's really suited for dry lanes. No more of this "lots of hook for a great value!" stance that just about every company is taking with their "weaker" stuff. There's an opportunity for Hammer to corner that specific market. I think they can do it. Just has to actually happen.

At least for us strokers I disagree the Blue Hammer isn't an awesome short or dry oil ball.  I agree if you need backend this isn't the ball but you often can stay in the track with it all day even after everyone else with more hand starts moving in and chasing the oil.  It absolutely rocks for spares as well so you can kill 2 birds with one stone.  I strongly believe the Burgundy Blue hammer combo is criminally underrated especially for the price as with surface changes these two balls can handle virtually any lane condition.  I have yet to see the Burgundy or Blue hammer burn up on any condition (granted I polish the crap out of both of them), they can be too strong (cross over head pin) or weak (blue slides in oil for days) but not due to burning up.  Down and in for the win lol.  My Scandal Pearl sits in my bag jealous.
