Author Topic: Surface on B/S Taboo (Read 4081 times)

What seems to be the best all around finish for the B/S Silver Taboo for the bowlers rolling it. I just started using mine last week and not real sure if I need to try some polish and see what happens. I won't change anything on the surface for a while until I get some more games on this ball. I am just curious if you have shined up the B/S and what kind of results did you have, good or bad. The ball has strong midlane so at this point, I dont think I really need more surface because of the pearl surface.

After about a game or two, I decided to polish mine and I absolutely love it. Good length with a strong backend reaction, but controllable. It's awesome.

Thanks for the reply. I know this is going to be a good ball for me, it is just going take a little time to get used to it. I think a light shine will be my next move. I just don't like to play with the surface too soon. My ball driller polished his before he drilled his ball. I wanted to try mine right out of the box first because you can never get it back to box finish once you change it.

When you put a little polish on it, it is much cleaner and more down lane. If this is what you are looking for it go ahead and add some polish.

If one wanted to slow it down a little sooner would it be advisable to hit it with a 2k pad?

Yes that is correct, a 2k pad will get it to pick up a bit sooner

Do I need to take it down to say 500 and build my way back up or just hit it with a 2k pad? The surface is still pretty fresh with less than 10 games on it

I decided to just add back to this post instead of making a new one. I played around with the surface on my Blue/Silver Taboo and this is what I came up with. I gave th B/S a light polish over the box 3000 grit and the result was just ok. With two different house (THS) shots, one 39 feet pattern and a modified house shot with more oil volume and 40 feet down lane. Over all I was not to crazy about the polish because of the carry down on the 40 foot house. The ball seemed to be a bit lazy on some shots and spares were a bit tricky. On the 39 foot pattern the ball was nearly too much, due to 5 man teams and shorter oil. I could play deeper but could not get soft on the speed. Changed the surface to 2000 grit Abralon and this really made a difference for the main conditions I bowl on. I am able to bowl on both conditions with slight adjustments which is normal. The drill pattern on the is strong side which is 4*4*2 the pin is drilled out so it is hid in the bottom of my finger hole (LOL).

I shined mine up by using a white scotch brite pad with lots of pressure and no water. This basically heats up and seals the resin. The shine is quite impressive considering no polish. On the Jayhawk Ball Surface Scanner it read 5300 which was close to the reading I got from my OOB Storm Frantic.

My Taboo B/S is a house shot monster with this finish. It's a strong layout 35 x 3 1/2 x 15 with a P 2.5 hole. It revs hard, grabs the midlane, and screams on the back with lots of angularity yet it's not too erratic off the dry.

I'm loving it and I was a Storm only guy since 2002!
