The cover on the Purple responds much better to surface changes, holds its surface better, and has more motion throughout the lane rather than earlier on. Not really a comparsion in my opinion.

2 completely different balls. Better to compare the Pitch Blue to the Purple Pearl. Pitch Black is a solid urethane whereas the Hammer Purple Pearl is a pearl. I've thrown almost every urethane out there, almost. But the Pitch Blue and the Purple Pearl are pretty similar.

I recently bought the Hammer Purple Pearl and all I can say is WOW! this ball is a freaking beast.

After reading some threads here about the Hammer Purple Pearl I was kinda doubtful about what they were saying about its strength for a urethane and I found it all to be true.

Now where I bowl the oil condition is always whacky, meaning its oily or very dry and i'll say this my Hammer Purple Pearl at OOB can not be used on a very dry lane, no freaking way.

I have been using it for just a couple of weeks and I use it with other bowlers using all the top gear from the other manufactures and it blows their mind and mine too.

Last night in league I started out with my left foot on 16 and then just moved through out the night as I ended up in game 3 standing on 34 and swinging it. I had a blast 8-)

Now for full disclosure about me so there wont be any confusion about what I just said. I'm a retired old fart so my throwing the ball 18+ MPH aint gonna happen but I dont throw it slow either.

I play up the boards and also enjoy throwing the big hook so when I started swinging the Hammer Purple Pearl I really didnt think it would come back but it had no problems at all.

I have my 15# Hammer Purple Pearl drilled pin under my ring finger and I keep it at about OOB. I'm so impressed with this ball that I might get another one and have it drilled pin up with a little polished...............Peace out!

One advantage the Purple Hammer has over most newer urethane balls is its a true 2 piece.  Even the Black Widow urethane is not 2 piece but it will be able to handle more oil than the purple and be significantly stronger overall.  I don't care what others say though that 2 piece hit at least for my style makes a difference.

BowlingForDonuts,

Hi, When you say that its a true 2 piece, do you mean that it has no filler just a core and all urethane ball?

  Thanks

That is correct.  No filler means high rg which is a good thing for a pearl urethane in general.

Another Q,
Now I'm thinking about getting the 'Hammer Black urethane' to go along with the Purple so my Q is, is that an over-lap?

The other night in league the condition was terrible as there was a lot of carry down and a puddle in the mids, even though I could make it to the pocket I thought maybe the Black would beat this crap up since its at 500 ab,

So what do you guys think?
Thanks...btw, the hit of the #PurpleBall is amazing.

The black has a smoother roll. Some say it is actually weaker than the purple. Hammer's site suggests otherwise. I think the purple probably does cover more boards, but it is more back end. You might want to consider the Black Widow urethane. That will definitely be stronger.

Black is weaker than the Purple. I would recommend it when you need the traditional urethane shape (wet dry or shorter patterns) Definitely need straighter angles with the Black Hammer. Even still, I would recommend the Widow for what you described as the flare will help you blend the wet dry better. Otherwise, you're better off trying to go around the carrydown with reactive.

I just got the Hammer Black Widow Urethane, HOLY SMOKES!!!

What a ball, Whew! its about 8-10 boards stronger then the Purple. I just got ot and threw
about 6 open play games and I was amazed from game one to game 6.

There was fresh oil so I threw the Purple standing at 20 out to about 8 and it didnt make the turn so I threw the Widow and it barely touched the 4 pin, LOL

So I ended up standing at 33 and swinging it to about 10...had a blast. After it hits the dry it turns quickly and then just stays on track to the pocket.

Love it!

They only use the filler material in the 14lb version!
