Specs:
15lb 2oz
2-3/4 top weight
3 inch pin

Drilled:
Pin Under Bridge
Cg kicked out two inches
Small X-hole down below

Shot:
THS, 38ft
Synthetics on AMF Lanes
First shift with clean backends

Review:
The Hawg is everything Hammer has described it would be. It revs up in the midlane and has a sharp turn in the backend. You can use various hand positions and the ball responds perfectly. I've used a straight up the back release and the ball went down smooth and arc up to the pocket and flushed the pins straight
back. This ball keeps the pins low and scatters them across the deck. When you come around the ball, this balls really takes off in the dry. It's a real monster. But when the heads go, put this ball away. It will burn and roll out.

My next test is on older wood lanes flooded 10 to 10 with a little dry 5 to 10 and OB 5 to the gutter.

Got Mike Wittington to drill up mine at a Demo day at Park Lanes in Charlotte,NC . Took the ball outta the box and played on a 43' sport pattern. Played the 3rd arrow and ball made a nice quick arc into the pocket, the third game moved into the 4th arrow and was still in the hole. I am a tweener with med.high ball speed (17-20 mph) off the hand and med.revs. Never had to slow it down at all. Also played on a med. house shot and had to give the ball lots of room to roam. Ball is great for my game so far,as I was looking for an oil ball. Will see how it holds up and post later on it.

The HAWG.

Pin to CG=  4.5".

Layout:
5" Pin to PAP distance.
CG in the center of grip.  Approx a 90* layout.
Quick wetsand with 2000 Abralon

I wasn't sure how to lay this ball out based on the long pin.  This is a longer pin to CG distance that I typically use.

Based on the raw core strength of this ball and the dull OOB finish, I assumed that this ball would burn up on me.    IT DID NOT.   I used this on on PBA regional #2 pattern and found that this ball was very good on it.   The ball was clean through the fronts, read the mids, and exploded on the back with a very hard arc that was continuous through the pin deck.  The reaction is NOT jumpy for me.

This ball will be good for the "rev challenged".  I am not, and therefore didn't assume that this ball would get much play for me, but I believe it has a spot in the bag for me.

got this ball was not satisfied put the pin above the bridge kicked the cg down about an inch put in a weight hole this ball works well for bowlers who do not put alot of revs on the ball or so i'm guessing it is not really a good ball for me on heavy head oil the slides out and does not come back well on carry down on drier lanes the ball works a little better but all around this ball is not worth the money

I got one of these balls in 15Lb and drilled 3 3/8. My ball speed is 14.5-15.5 MPH with medium revs. Out of the box this ball had an Awsome reaction! It is about the strongest reacting ball I have ever thrown! I have used this ball on medium to long patterns with great success in the reaction part but, I was very unimpressed with the hit and carry of this ball! It seemed like when it hit the pins, the pins would just fall over and hit the pin deck instead of flying around and hitting other pins. It really sounded and looked like a wet turd hitting the pins. Needless to say, I had to hit the pocket 100% perfect to strike with this ball and this ball left alot of very weird spares to try to pick up. I gave the ball a chance but, ended up selling it to someone. I now have a Track GP2 to fill the spot in my arsenal and I couldnt be happier with it!!!!!

Hammer Hawg:

Ball Specs
The ball being drilled was a 3” pin out with 3.00 oz top weight.
Drilling: Pin 4 1/2" from PAP and Mb 5 1/4" from PAP (approximately 60 degrees) pin is Above Ring finger, 3" above grip midline. Weight hole on my V.A.L. Pitched away.

Bowler Information:
Track diameter is 10 1/2.
PAP is measured at 5 1/4 over and 3/8" up.
Average ball speed (foul line to head pin) is 17 mph.
Axis rotation is typically 90 degrees
Initial rev rate is typically 300 rpm, "Tweener"
Lane Condition and Pattern:
AMF Bowlero, HPL 9000 Panel. Used two different nights on two different patterns. Pattern #1 Heavy Oil and only slightly clean back ends. Pattern #2 Slightly drier condition with cleaner backends.

REVIEW:
Just when I thought I wouldn't be able see a better ball reaction come from Ebonite than the Big Rig Diesel, along comes the Hawg. I got to say, I love the motion of this ball. Clean through the fronts, fast revving in the middle and strong but smooth backend. AMEN!!! Just what a ball reaction should be. Well Done Ebonite!!

On oil pattern #1 Heavy Oil and slight carrydown, the ball actually skided more than I wanted which forced me out to second arrow and I had to play down and in, so it is clear the ball skids pretty good in oil. Finally hooked at 45'. Shot 258 1st game on the ball. Gave me good reaction as long as the heads held up, after that I put the ball away.

On Oil pattern #2 Drier Lanes and clean backends, that ball reaction was wonderful. I could swing it, I could pull it, it read the lane better than the Big Rig. But by the 3rd game when the heads broke down, I had to put the ball away. This ball is awesome, but not for all three games. Learn when to use it and when to put it away.

Overall: Great ball with the ball motion most bowlers are looking for. Great choice for strokers, spinners, and tweeners on oil.

Thanks for reading my review.
Dwight

Drilled a Hawg a few weeks ago.  Just had a chance to get a good read on it and it is very good for me to open up the lane with.  Pin is 4-1/2 above ring finger 60 degrees.  This ball was very good when my XXCel was just not reading the track area right.  XXcel was either a little early when I went straighter and a little long when I opened it up to the track.  Switched to the Hawg and it read the track perfectly when I opened up.  Nice smooth strong arc back to the pocket.  Carry percentage went up dramatically when I made the change.  I believe that this one is a little longer than the Big Deal that I have (same drilling) and a little more continuation through the pin deck.

I really think this will be an excellent ball for heavy oil patterns. The ball finished great on the backend. It is a great ball product for Hammer. This new line with the Hawg should allow bowlers that need a lot more hook in oil to really have some fun throwing this ball. The Hawg seem to have a nice consent roll on it to the pocket. I find it easy to read what the ball will do. I don't crank the ball. I am more like a tweener. But I can enjoy playing the majority of the lane with this ball.

Just got the ball yesterday, and all I can say is wonderful!

Ball Specs:
14lbs 03oz.
Top weight was 2/14oz (if im not wrong)
Pin distance was 1 inch

Tested on a AMF lanes, full synthetic. Heavy on the inside, med on the outside area of the lane. I was playing on the 3rd shift and carrydown was everyday in the inside other than the outside area which is partially clean.

The ball was drilled with the pin below my ring finger, cg kicked out about 1 inch off my center of grip.

I tried play on the track area, throwing my ball at 15 to 8. Carrydown was terrible, but this ball gave me a smooth reaction into the pocket with blasting pin carry.

Then I tried playing on the outside, throwing 5th board down directly and surprising it snaps very hard around 42' of the lane. again, the pin carry was awesome!

Due to time constrain, i only bowled 1 game, score was 191 with 2 open frames. My mistakes Afterall, I would give this ball 9/10!

Lane Conditions: Medium-Heavy Oil
Typical Conditions: Tournament Shot
Type of Lane: Combination
What part of the lane did you play? Third Arrow
Did the ball track out? Normal
Weight of bowling ball: 15
Surface of bowling ball: Factory/Box
Likes: The ball rolled very well in heavy to medium oil. The hitting power to the pocket was awesome. This ball really needs oil.
Dislikes: None:

I bought this ball and had it drilled with the first layout for max hook.It had a 2 1/4 top weight, with a pin of 2 3/8.This ball is awesome,I have a Razor Blade and a Strike Zone, this ball kills both.I have been bowling in a house that was very difficult for me,cause I don't have the revs that some have, but with this ball I had NO problem. It's hitting power was as much as I have ever bowled with or seen.I actually felt sorry for the pins,my only regret is that I didn't purchase it sooner.

Lane Conditions:Medium Oil
Typical Conditions:House
Type of Lane: Synthetic
What part of the lane did you play? 2nd Arrow, out to the 5 board.
Did the ball track out? Normal
Weight of bowling ball: 15
Surface of bowling ball: 600
Likes: The ball came back to the pocket very nicely, hit very hard.
Dislikes: The ball is only good for me on a nice oil pattern, very unforgiving, if I pulled it it was gone.

I purchased the ball online and had it drilled at Sawmill Lanes in Columbus, Ohio, by a member of the Hammer Staff.  I was expecting a ball that really hooked, I am a stroker with little revs and a ton of speed, and it did just as I suspected and hooked a ton.  As I said above this is not a very forgiving ball in that if I pulled it more than a board it missed the head pin to the left.  I only bowled two games on it thus far, but I can tell already that it is going to carry very well, and hits like a ton of bricks.  I was using a Storm X-Factor Vertigo, that I was scoring very well with, but leaving 12-15 ten pins a night.  I think I solved my problem by purchasing this ball, and as stated earlier my only regret was not purchasing this ball sooner!!!!!!

Thank you HAMMER, and keep up the good work.

This review will be short and sweet.

Surface...Lite Ebonite Partical Polish
Layout.... Pin under ring, cg out 1in
Lane Condition: House shot
Reaction:
Very smooth down the lane, the Hawg seems to pick up just a bit sooner than the Real Deal but more movement on the backend. Same can be said when comparing the Hawg to the Hawg Wild.

Thoughts:
This appears to be a ball that can be used as a benchmark piece. Can be a bit jumpy when hitting the dry, but that can be pointed to user error. Great ball, not as aggressive as I thought, but still good.

Grab the Hawg!

Pin to CG Distance - 2-2.25"
Drilled - Stacked Leverage (Pin Slightly under and to the right of Ring Finger)

To be honest, I really wasn't all that impressed with this ball at all in terms of it's hook potential.  It appears to like alot of oil up front but really needs some friction on the back to be effective.  It does have very good carry, but appears to be somewhat speed sensitive.  This ball doesn't like slick lane surfaces either, which really surprised me.  The other thing that surprised me is that my RG Oracle Vision outhooks this ball by a good 3-5 boards.  That could be because of the way I chose to drill the ball.  I'm probably going to donate this ball to the junior program at my local bowling center, not real interested in trying to make it work, especially since I have an Oracle Vision that does the job and I have a couple of Epic Battles if things get really soupy.

UPDATE 10/6/06:

I donated this ball to the junior program at my local bowling center because this ball was just a bad matchup for me.  This ball appears to be more for crankers and  bowlers with more side roll than I have.  I watched one of the juniors that has this ball and cranks it up pretty good and it works really well for him.  Just a bad matchup for my game.
