just won a taboo need drilling advice
« on: March 07, 2011, 12:53:44 AM »
I just won a taboo at state with a 3 inch pin and 2.5 top.   I have  lower track but not a spinner I throw 16mph with medium hand can play anywhere but mainly swing 17 to 5ish I'm looking for sumthing to go through the midlane but have a strong but controled backend movement.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Maybe try a pin over bridge with the MB 2 inches right of thumb. This ball has a strong midlane and angular continuous arc on the backend.

The Nano is going to be stronger than the Taboo. The Taboo is a little cleaner. I dont think the Motiv is going to be as strong as either from what I have seen from it...there is no way to ACCURATELY tell someone how to lay a ball out without knowing your tilt, rotation, rev, and speed and the driller knowing your PAP........people can make guesses but that doesn't mean it will do what you want....

Yea I kinda figured that I gotta get my pap from my driller but I'm around 45 degree tilt id say rev rate 275-300 with sort of a voodoo roll lol but it works for me I bowl on old wood  but mainly looking for a tournament ball that will get through oil when everything else is skating too much

10pin hater...

From what I have seen and what I have been told either the Taboo or the Nano would be too strong for wood lanes. I have seen the Taboo on synthetic lanes now with various styles of bowling and it hooks a lot. I have only watched the Nano on TV during the Masters tournament and Tom Hess made that ball look great. I just talked to my son this morning and his teammate just got his Nano and used it in a tournament this Sunday. His teammate said that he had never had a ball in his hand that hooked that much even polished up. Saying this does not mean that I think you should run and trade off your Taboo for a Nano. The Taboo was not designed to be a big oiler but I do think you may be able to get more use out of the Taboo overall on different conditions.  I just drilled up two Midnight Vibes for the wife and I because  the weather is warming up some and the lanes break down quicker this time of year. The Vibes filled a need that we were looking for. I would love to have a Taboo, but  I really don't need one right now. My advice is try to pick a ball for what you need in your arsenal rather than a ball that is all hyped up because of the amount of hook it has.

I wouldnt swap your TABOO for anything. I used my TABOO on A VERY HEAVY US OPEN shot and had no problem with it. With your PAP and all you will not have a problem with this ball.  It might have a Asymetrical weight block but the ball rolls like a symetrical ball with the cover it has. The midlane is absolutly impressive and the backend is very continuous. It will handle heavy oil with no problem. I would drill it one of two ways. either pin down with CG out a little no hole or pin up with no hole. Obviously the pin up with go a little longer than pin down but you could always adjust surface on either tomake the work for you. Good Luck.
