Hammer Aggressive Reaction Technology (HART)

Cover left it in box condition.
16 lbs.
3 inch pin.
2.3/4 oz. top weight to start off.
Punched with recommended # 1 drilling.

Have bowled in 2 houses:
House # 1, old worn-out wood, with good but very spotty oil.
House # 2, synthetics.

On house # 2, only bowled once in practice, playing around 20-22nd board at the arrows when my other balls (Hammer High Rev, Ebonite Big One) were having trouble breaking consistent.  This ball was a monster, it seemed to "smell" the pocket, with tremendous carry, nothing but strikes, putting the other balls to shame (and I've bowled pretty good with them in the past).

House # 1, is the house that I bowl on normally, which has seen a different and inconsistent shot (for the most part) since the winter leagues began.  I have been told that it's because something happened with the lane machine, so whether it's that or management just horsing around is unknown.  Suffice it to say that it has good oil, but the lanes play differently from day to day it seems (many 200+ bowlers from last year are down about 20 pins this year).  Back to the ball, there's something about it that is VERY special! At this house, it goes long enough, but not so long that it can't turn the corner, and when it does turn, again, it just seems to sniff the pocket.  It's like they built an invisible head pin sensor-nose into the ball, because if I send it a little wide I'm still safe, if I tug it a little, it rides the oil and sits in the pocket.

I honestly have not thrown anything like this ball in quite a while, or, possibly ever!  I had a Columbia Black U-Dot in the mid-80's that was similar to this, but I don't remember it being quite this good.

Obviously, this ball to me rates a 10+, and I HIGHLY recommend it, simply because it has good hit, rolls consistently, and makes one feel safe when rolling it, which is good, because it loosens up the armswing, and when that happens, scores go up.

Ball Specs
The ball being drilled was a 3” pin out with 3.00 oz top weight.
Drilling: Pin 4" from PAP and Mb 110 degree angle, Drilling #1 recommended by Hammer. Pin is Above Ring finger, 3" above grip midline. No weight Hole Factory Sanded 4000 abralon pad.

Bowler Information:
Track diameter is 10 1/2.
PAP is measured at 5 1/4 over and 3/8" up.
Average ball speed (foul line to head pin) is 17 mph.
Axis rotation is typically 90 degrees
Initial rev rate is typically 300 rpm, "Tweener"
Lane Condition and Pattern:
AMF Bowlero and AMF West, HPL 9000 Panel. Oil Pattern: Medium Heavy Oil and slightly clean back ends.  

REVIEW:
This is one special ball, I feel every bowler must try this ball. Smooth but powerful the only way to describe this ball. After going to the Seminar just before the USBC Masters I knew this ball was going to be something special, so I was very anxious to try one. 4 straight starts with the ball I have shot 731, 737, 754, and 753. I do not think I have been more excited about a new ball release for many years, now it is the only ball I want to throw.

Ron Hickland continues to create ball reaction bowlers want to see. I have drilled this ball for 4 people so far and the calls and e-mails continue to come in as excited about their No Mercy as I am about mine.

What impresses me so much about this ball is how predictable the break point of this ball is, I always know where it is going, and the strikes are so flush, that the pins don't stand a chance.

Sign me up for a case of these balls. Ron, as always GREAT JOB!!

I have just purchased my first Hammer ball, I was intrigued by the core and simple drill patterns. I talked to my guy at the Pro shop where I bowl and here drilled one up for me. The pin is about an inch away from my ring finger with the CG in the middle of my fingers and thumb. I kept the ball @ the 4000 grit out of the box. My avg. is 210 and I have bowled about 15 games with and have shot 766 with a 290 game. 727 with a 280 game, and 696, 684 with a 279 game.
This is the first ball I have purchased that I can use all there games as the lanes break down. I am a tweener with good speed and good revs. I like to play the middle to in deep. First game I can play 17-15 borad out to 10-8 and the ball crushes. I then continue move feet and target left and will continue to score. Looking forward to shooting my 3rd 300 and 2nd 800 series with this ball. Thats how confident I feel rolling this ball. You will not be disappointed. Good Luck and Bowl well.

Just drilled this ball after going to the seminar for the ball the layout I used was layout 1 and it does exactly what the ball says very angular this ball I find is very drilling sensative if you don't get the heart in the players track you will leave plenty of weak corner pins I have drilled two more sense getting them in stock for other people but not many comments on the ball.

I drilled this up with the recommended #1 Drilling.  Ended up with 3/16 negative side, 3/16 thumb, and 1 5/8 oz. Top weight.  All I can say about this ball is .....WOW!  Hits like a Mack Truck, carry is almost unbelievable and the recovery of this ball is like I've never seen before.  Even when you don't get all of it,
it still makes it to the pocket and carries. One of my buddies has this ball as well, also drilled with the #1 Drilling, and we both agree in our assessment of this ball....it's just "SICK".  We've never had a ball hit this hard!  If you don't have one of these in your arsenal, you're truly missing out.  Best of luck

I dont have my specs and My No Mercy is drilled like the #1 Pattern. I have owned alot of different balls in the last couple of years. All I have to say about this ball THIS THING IS SICK granted I was bowling on pretty dry lanes but the ball hooks the whole lane. I was throwing it out and I couldnt get it to the ten  board from the far left dot andd it was going past brooklyn. I cant wait until I get to use it on some oil . I will post another review after some real use.

Before I ordered my No Mercy last week I had asked a couple drillers around the area if they had any experience with the ball, both said they had drilled a few up and that the feedback was not good (they both had only used the #1 layout). On this site I gleaned alot of very useful information on what makes or breaks this ball in terms of drilling.

I presented a layout to my driller that was meticulous in so far as assuring the HART was on my track and that the CG was postioned in the POSITIVE quadrant. To achieve this the NM's pin, cg and Hart MUST be lined up properly with no major offsets of the HART. Most of the used NM's I see being sold have the cg in the negative position and the hart on or clipping the thumb. As well, I decided to not go with drlling #1 and instead compromise more between #1 and #7, this resulted in the pin being 3 3/8ths from my PAP. After league last night I tested the NM out and it absolutely blew my mind! It reved up like a Brunswick on Steroids (much like MoRich)and had as powerful a continuation as I have ever seen. The pair I bowled on were like night and day. On the left lane I had to stand on 32 and throw a big swing shot just right of 5th arrow to about the 7 board while the right lane was tight allowing me to stand on 20 and play just left of second arrow. Results: 258,300 (and this was after I struggled all night in league throwing a miserable 625 series).

The way the NM reved up in the backend was simply amazing! It had a decent midlane read but it really started rolling heavily at about 40 feet and didn't let up one iota for the remaining 20 feet. It kept the pins low and just blew the rack apart.

Drill this baby correctly and as Hammer says: "Have A Nice Day".

In looking at the No Mercy drillings...I decided to go with #6. The pin, Cg and heart were generally all in line. The end result was tremendous. The NM made the motion just as expected based on two house shots. Long and strong. The corner power of the NM was better than expected. I will test on a few PBA and sport patterns and give a detailed review.

I drilled my no mercy with the bag drilling but kicked a -1/4oz side weight into it and the ball clears the heads with ease and makes a cruching turn to the pocket.The reaction is very consistant no matter where you play on the lanes. I threw it on the cheeteah pattern and avg. about 227. Ball is a must for guys who want a consistant breakpoint read.And the ball lives up to its name cause it spares NO MERCY on the pins when it hits.

My father (and bowling partner) still bowls with the black hammer that he's had since 1981.  Insanely envious of the ridiculous pin action he gets, and the terrific sound the ball makes when it hits, I took a punt and ordered the No Mercy online hoping for a decent hooking ball that hit half as well as my Dad's.

Fresh out of the box it smelled a lot like the T2 teal rhino pro I had when I was a kid- good sign.  I'm no pro on the drilling side of things, but after a quick chat, pro shop guy and I went with a variant on layout number one- being a little girl, my span is about half the size as the one in the diagrams.  A little excess superglue around the inserts led to the ball being sanded to get rid of it.  To keep things even, pro shop guy did the whole thing.

Cat's verdict:  This is simply the best ball- it just plain hooks.  8 in a row out of the box with no practise on crappy oiled synthetic lanes.  Really solid predictable hook, and it hits damn hard- I had pins flying everywhere, and it's just a lovely ball to watch in motion.  I'm still grinning like an idiot every time I take it out of the bag, and am seriously considering ordering another just in case something happens to it...  If nothing else it caused a serious stir at my league where everyone throws Brunswick Infernos; the No Mercy absolutely sh*ts on them.  For the record I throw a 13 lb.  I think I'm in love...

I JUST DRILLED THE NEW NO MERCY 2 WEEKS AGO.  THIS BALL IS UNBELIEVABLE.  THIS SHOULD BE A BALL IN Everyone ARSENAL.  I HAVE USED THIS BALL ON 3 DIFFERENT HOUSE CONDITIONS AND HAVE YET TO SHOOT UNDER 720. MY 15TH,16TH,AND 17TH GAMES IN LEAGUE WERE 258,279,277(814)FOR MY 2ND 800 EVER.  MY FIRST WAS 2 YEARS AGO WITH THE BIG BLUE GREAT JOB RON STRICKLAND, BRIAN GRAHAM AND HAMMERNITE CREW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't bowled league since 99 and started with my old urethane hammer fabal, still hit when conditions were right. I bought a No Mercy two weeks ago and watch out. The hits were great, nice hooking ball for a guy who just strokes it medium. I'm going to retire the old Hammer and get Hawgzilla, Black Widow to complement. The No Mercy cuts through the middle oil and destroys them and when I lay it out on 1 arrow it screams back to the pocket... Wow,the balls and lanes sure have changed in six years and I just have to get my old body back to bowling shape.

I normally don't post, but after getting the No Mercy in; all I can say is WOW !!

The first three games with 10 minutes of practice after drilling were 269, 259, and 244.

Picked up my no mercy a couple weeks ago.  I went through some transition with this ball and my release.  I was having trouble hitting the thumbhole before I got this ball, and now, I'm a good inch to 2 inches a way.  This ball makes you change your release to fully use it's power.

As for the roll, this ball gets down the lane and corners amazing.  What I love most of this ball is it's give on the breakpoint.  You can have a breakpoint area of up to a full foot and a half, so miss your mark by a few boards and odds are it will still come up.

It hits like a tank and carries like nothing else.  I don't leave seven pins anymore, 10 pins are occasional but certainly not common.

It is very forgiving and strong on the backend.  Get it out too much, and it will come back almost every time.  Keep it inside your track and it will hold the line down the lane and still recover.  Beware of coming inside your line though, I find this ball will kick out strong and leave solid 10 pins or cut into a heavy split.

All in all if you're looking for a ball that flips like mad with amazing recovery and strong backend this is it.  I'm a medium rev and speed bowler, I'd call myself a high end stroker low end tweener.  Crankers may find this ball uncontrollable.

Midlane read: 10
Breakpoint: 10
Backend: 10
Outside line success: 10
Inside line success: 9
Hitting power: 10
Maintenance: 5

Let me explain the maintenance, this ball, being 4000 grit, picks up pin dirt and stuff off the line like nothing else.  You will need to keep up on cleaning it and scuffing off the dirt.  As long as you do this, the ball will kill the pins for you.
