isnt the cobalt vibe a solid? i know it looks pearl but in the description it says "blah blah blah cover originally used on the BWS" this confuses me lol

Confused me too, I thought is was a solid, but mine looks like a pearl. The purple ball also looks pearl. I have the purple ball stronger than my blue/silver taboo.

Pretty sure the Cobalt Vibe is a pearl.
If someone from Hammer can say otherwise, it's good to know.

The specs on ballreviews and on the Hammer web site say:
"Veneer: Violent Reactive Pearl".
See http://hammerbowling.com/products/product_detail/cobalt_vibe/
That coverstock was on the Black Widow but as the solid. The pearlized version was on the Black Widow Pearl.

yeah, but when you watch the video they say the original black widow cover, but when you open the box it is clearly a pearl.

In regards to the Cobalt Vibe questions, here is the answer that I received about this ball from the "Big Man" himself:

It is more for cosmetic... More solid widow cover with pearl than Black Widow Pearl type, which had more pearl in the cover.... This cover has more solid blend

This ball is such a great selling Vibe because of the versatility it brings to the Hammer line that we haven't seen since the original Blue or Onyx Vibe. You will not be disappointed in the Cobalt Vibe!

Here we go again except it is Hammer this year instead of Columbia. Leagues are starting and bowlers ate buying new balls as I speak. Hammer is releasing a ball that no one has information on. So as a pro shop owner do you sell them a ball or tell them Hammer is releasing another ball but I can't give you information on it. Guess it will be another Ebonite product that will not be stocked as most bowlers that only buy one ball a year want a new ball prior to start of league. Storm/Roto Grip good job releasing information in July on all your new equipment and staggering release dates. At least I can recommend your products and stock by knowing its not a mystery ball. But I do love the Track equipment.

I wonder if half the sales of the Cobalt weren't due to the color versus the Grape Vibe which is one of the ugliest balls I've seen in a long, long time.

But it makes no difference how much pearl they say is in the cover, every other word out of Hammer's "mouth" in their Cobalt Vibe Video is the extreme[/b] length it gets and how much backend it has, even more than the Grape Vibe, which until now, had the most backend of any Vibe.

Here's some other direct quotes from Hammer:
- "Cobalt Vibe offers extreme length with an angular backend motion. Now Hammer bowlers have the perfect option for going coast to coast on dry lane conditions! "
- "This Vibe is built to get further down the lane in a pearlized shell, with a devastating backend move on dry lane conditions!"

This is not the work of a solid coverstock.

I saw this ball thrown in the last week of our summer league by a Hammer staffer and it is a strong pearl, and I believe it might have the gas mask core. It also hooked a ton ! I believe this will be considered a strong pearl. The purple color (not reaction by no means !) reminded me of the similar shade used by in the Razor.

It's gona be a Taboo I'm guessing a Hybrid coverstock, that's the only coverstock left in widow line they haven't done yet, so probably cover from the wicked encounter or pursuit

Ron sr. did ball testing at our center the other evening and I know what the ball name is, but I told him I wouldn't say anything! He was testing 10 bowling balls and going to different centers so they could document the results from different places with different lane surface and oil patterns! We let him use a pair of lanes not being used for league!! Ron jr and Ron sr are outstanding gentlemen who love the sport of bowling and Ron jr is always looking to make things better. I love my Brunswick stuff, but I have all the respect in the world for them and what they do for the bowling community!!

The Deep Purple Taboo looks pretty strong. Hammer needed a stronger ball for their line up.
In the bag:

Roto Grip Wrecker
Storm IQ Tour Fusion
Track 400ASE
Faball Red Hammer

It's a Taboo? That's not very shocking. All that hype, and it's another Taboo.

It's a pearl. Everyone including Hammer says it's a pearl. Someone said the percentage was not as much as some other pearls, but a pearl is a pearl. It's a pearl.

Please read several of the previous posts above.

I wish Hammer would have said it was the same coverstock as the Black Widow PEARL, instead of the Black Widow. This has confused everyone but I suppose Hammer wanted the Cobalt associated with the good Black Widow, rather that the very unpopular BW Pearl. The BW Venom was what the BW Pearl was supposed to be but never was. I think this is misleading advertising.
