Spike Black/Blue Ball Review
« on: June 06, 2014, 04:09:35 PM »
Heya Hammerheads... After throwing the new Spike Black/Blue for 2 weeks on a few patterns, I really like what I see in this ball & think this will be a ball you might want to add in your bag. Let me know if you have any questions regarding this ball or any other Hammer products....

BOWLER INFO:

PAP/Track:  5 1/8” x 1” up
Axis Rotation:  25 degrees
Axis Tilt:  12 degrees
Rev Rate: 440
Ball Speed: 17-19mph

LANE CONDITION

Lane Patterns Used: 41' House Shot, 2014 USBC Team & Singles/Double Pattern

COMMENTS

Ball Layout: 70 x 4 3/4 x 35

Likes: This new Spike has the same core, but has the Carbon Fiber outter core and the Jet Black Pearl coverstock. WOW what a difference that I see in between the original & this ball. The Spike Black/Blue is definitely stronger overall than the original and more defined backend motion. Very clean through the front part of the lane and a nice strong backend motion that evens out the over/under that I had with the original Spike. For me this ball worked best on when the patterns were in transition and I needed a ball to recover in the backends when the lanes opened up. This ball is perfect for the medium-light to drier lane patterns.

Dislikes: Tends to be a little too strong off the spot on the fresher patterns. I will drill another one with a pin down to smooth out the reaction for some tournament patterns.

This ball will work perfect for the lower rev rate bowlers that need a ball to get through the front part of the lane & turn the corner when the transition has forced them left of their comfort zone. With the high rg / high diff core (w/ Carbon Fiber) & the Jet Black pearl cover, this ball will help bowlers have a ball that will get down the lane with ease & turn the corner in the backends.
With the Carbon Fiber outter core, Hammer has provided a 3 year warrantee on this ball, so this is a great value for the money.

Make sure you place your order through your local pro shop for this great rolling piece from Hammer.

In regards to a step down from the Assassin... the Black/Blue Spike would be that ball... I see about 5 boards difference from the Assassin & the Spike with the Spike being longer & angular in the backends than the Assassin. Really compliments each other well.

In league, I use my new Legend (3000 Abralon), Absolut Flip, then Spike for my 3 ball league arsenal. The great thing about the new Spike is that it can handle a little more oil than the previous one with the stronger coverstock.

Hope this helps your question...

EL3MCNEIL-In an earlier post you were hoping that it would be a step down from your B.W. Assassion. Could you compare the two. Am looking to get an Assassion and something that would be a step down for league this year. Thanks

My Spike is a step down from the B.W. Assassin. My B.W. Assassin is a lot stronger overall and I can play with that or my B.W. Legend when the lanes are fresh. After the lanes breakdown it seems that my Spike shines. I cannot rave anymore about this ball because it has honestly put in a lot of work. Obviously this ball won't be for everyone, but I would recommend this ball without a doubt.

How do you like your B.W. Legend so far?

great hammer ball for medium to dry lanes. Drilled this ball with the number 1 drilling. Ball goes long then rips back to to hole and hits very hard scattering the pins. Give it a shot you won't be disappointed.
