Ok folks, those of you who have rolled the TRAP please tell me what you thought of it. Also what were the lane conditions...I'm actually thinking about getting one =)

I switched back to Hammer gear...I am now a HAMMERHEAD
Now throwing pretty much all flavors...

I personally think this was one of hammer's worst releases. They designed it for oil, but that was definitly not the case. Now granted, if they had marketed it differently and had a diff out of box surface, there may have been an exception.

At the polished state, it hates oil and encounters friction way to hard when it finally does. Now if you can get one at a heck of a price hammer down, but otherwise there are far more better selections than the trap! The hottest Hammer ball on the PLANET is the Taboo....... If you already have one of those, id even go with a Grape Vibe or something new, etc. Hope that helps, John

I can agree with the box finish not matching up to most people but just knocking the shine off it made the ball an animal on medium to medium heavy patterns, it really came alive and moved strongly and sharply on the backend.

I agree with John. I've never really been comfortable relying on my Trap because it doesn't like the oil at all, and when I've rarely thrown it in league it was usually after the lane conditions have broken down.

would knocking the polish off with a 4K pad do the trick or something a little stronger?

I bought a Trap about 2 months ago and I still don't know what to make of it.  I wouldn't go as far as to call it one of Hammer's worst releases, however I did need to make a lot of adjustments with this ball.  OOB it hooked way too much, I couldn't even keep it on the lane so I had to polish it.  For the first 3 weeks I hated this ball and it didn't help that my pro shop had to drill a weight crater to take off what looked like a pound of top weight just to make it legal. But.....after practicing with the ball I have improved my game because of the adjustments I had to make, and after making adjustments I started to improve my approach.  Yes, it's sometimes unpredictable and despite what my pro shop told me if I use it on dry lanes it will practically make a u turn but I have shot my highest series and game in league with it, and have maintained a 200+ average from a 163.  But to answer your question if OOB it's sanded I would polish it and be prepared to make some adjustments and don't get too discouraged if it doesn't carry the way you want it at first.  I do agree with the consensus though, unless you are getting a pretty good deal on the ball (it's either retired or getting ready to retire) I would look into some of the new releases from Hammer, the Arson looks pretty decent and not priced too high.

I actually liked my trap better than my taboo. The trap was more playable and consistent, length with awesome backend and decent carry. It would get squirly on too much oil,but it was polished over 4000 so you had much room for surface changes to get the ball to read sooner. All in all I thought it was a decent ball and as I said I would take it over the taboo any day.

I love my TRAP.  I find it to be more reliable and predicable then some of the newer stuff.  But I am a windup - and I love it on Meds!  I use it at OOB condition.  Clears the heads easily, reads the mids with out changing direction, and then picks up and drives hard to the hole.   IMO, this is a great nug.

I'm happy I have one still NIB!   But.....I would entertain offers on it!   :-)

Have to agree, probably the most consistant ball I've had in a long time.

I really liked the trap. I think the fact that it was polished actually gave you more room to work with it. OOb it had good length awesome backend and I liked it better than the taboo polished. I never changed the surface on my trap, but I can only imagine what it would have done in oil at 1000 dull, polished ,no it wasnt an oiler, but it gave you room for improvement.

What I found with the Trap is that the shine from the factory is very hard. If you decide to get it I would knock the shine with a 4000 pad. The ball is very angular on the backend. Last year at Nationals I used mine in doubles and singles when I needed to get down the lane from deep inside. Actually had the front 10 at one point. What I would do is: Unless you can get this ball for an extremly great price I would either get an Infection or wait for the Epidemic. The Infection you will not be disappointed with. This ball is so controlable. I have not found a condition were I couldnt use this ball. The epidemic is a bit more touchy. I took the shine down a bit and the ball is much better for me. You still will not be disapointed with this ball. I have used it on mostly medium volume oil pattern. Did use it on the 44ft london pattern once the pattern broke down a little and you had to chase it in. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for replying. I just got added a Jigsaw Corner and a Burn to my Hammer gear so after throwing both now for a couple of weeks I am loving the BURN...it goes great with my Cherry Vibe and my BW Pearl :)

Summer arsenal: Jigsaw Corner - Swagga - Burn - Cherry Vibe
my other Hammer gear: Taboo - BW Pearl - BW Venom - Jigsaw

I picked up a used Trap from a fellow BR member and I have to say it's a VERY nice piece. This ball is drilled 50x4x40 with a P2 hole. The finish is allegedly box (polished).

This ball is just so clean down the lane and has such a strong backend reaction that it's almost non-Hammer-like. The reaction I get from the Trap is very Doom-like. It is definitely not the typical heavy, smooth rolling ball that Hammer is usually repped for.

Is this a bad thing? NOT A CHANCE!!!! Great piece but as I said the move off the spot is just huge.

That's interesting to hear because your last sentence is mainly why I've more or less stayed away from Hammer equipment since Ebonite took over. Had several of early, early pieces (Vicious, Diesel Particle Pearl, Blade) and they were all awful.

But then again, it has been several years since I've really thrown anything from the Hammer line.
