Why!?
« on: March 24, 2008, 09:29:50 AM »
So i went for practice today. The lanes were heavier with it being after a morning league (39 ft). I pulled out my Hammer Raw Anger and that ball would not even budge. It was like throwing a straight plastic ball. I have been having problems with the Anger and the surface is at 500 grit currently. My Doom snapped maybe 3 boards but not even in the same universe as it usually does. Then my buddy is trowing the Blue Vibe and was having no problems. Now my question is, why is my "heavy oil anger" not hooking at all and a blue vibe is. Its not that there was no oil, there was plenty. it is drilled pin below the the two fingers i dont know if that changes anything. I'm really considering getting rid of the Anger, it just wont hook, annnnd i just hot water bathed it to try and fix this problem. thank you for helping!

Didn't read a lot of the answers BUT...

I often bowl on heavy oil with bigger handed people who all of a sudden can't hook it.

Me notice.
1. they keep throwing fast.
2. they keep playing the part of the lane they usually play.
3. they look at same part of the lane they always do(say down lane markers).
4. they never move their feet right if righties or left if lefties.

ME...a medium heavy handed slow roller....do some of this.
1.  Find dry down lane(where is it).
2.  Aim at dry down lane.
3.  Move feet....if not outright left(me lefty) then at least tighter to my intended starting line.
4.  hold ball lower
5.  crowd approach by about a foot
6.  Instead of arrows or down lane...look at dots.
7.  match backend.

Always hooks.

My friend with the blue vibe was playing straight up arrow two and it continuously hooked into the pocket. Me on the other and tried every lane position possible, adjusted speed put more revs tried less revs, nothing.

I think the heads were on fire and there was some serious carrydown.  Not a condition you'll find very often in league unless you bowl a weekend fun league or a second shift league.   I wouldn't overreact to it.

Of course, if the lanes were never oiled from the night before (not uncommon, especially in AMF houses), the heads and mids could be completely fried with carry down (as CHawk states).  Throwing an Anger on something like that will see it hook at your feet, burn up, and go straight the rest of the way down the lane.

On the same condition, a Vibe is weak enough/will lope enough through the heads and hook in the midlane so as to look "normal" and "outhook" the Anger.
