never had an issue with dexter until this SST'8 fiasco........
been battling back and forth with them for a week now.....
They want me to trade DOWN and get a pr of sst6 which I was happy with.... from the pr I had before.... I will end up paying $140 for a $106 pr of shoes.. not right in my opinion....at all.

I just asked them to refund or exchange for a different size.

Lets see what happens. If they don't bite either way I will have a pr of size 12s up for sale here..... they did offer to exchange at one point. if I can't get the 10s to resell, then I will have to get the 12s and take a loss on them.

Try getting ahold of a lady my the name of carol porter. She helped me out with a few problems I had. I trade in 2 pairs of 80 dollar shoes that I wore for 4 years and she sent me sst5 lx and pair of sst6 Le. If anybody can help you it would be her

thats who I would be talking to, actually fighting with, lol.

I bought the SST8 to be able to switch hands bowling and not have to carry 2 pr of shoes.... not happening..... and she does not seem willing to do what it takes to keep me happy. I asked for a REFUND or a pr of SSt8s in size 10, I have not gotten a response as of yet.

Sorry that you had issues with your Dexters.  I've got nearing, or exceeding, 1000 games on my first pair of SST6LX's and they look, feel, and perform as great as the first day I put them on.  A few months into ownership, I bought a second pair to put into use when the first pair started to deteriorate.  I don't think these are even close to being retired.  They look like they've got another 1000+ games left in them.

My problem with the SST8's are the soles, both the slide and the traction are wearing out very quick.  I am using the new S6 soles, white/perferated.  Talked to my distributor and they can not get these soles yet.  I am now using the old perferated soles and my 3rd traction sole (#3).

I know of one other person that is having th same problem as me.

Not sure why these soles are wearing so quick, the only thing I can think of is bad design/material.

I have a pair of the Sport Ultras and even the Ultras just bowl my old Dexters out of the water no comparison much more comfy, fewer misteps less falling off shots.

sarcasm on* kudos to dexter for their timely 3 day turnaround on emails....
I sent them one on tuesday evening and have recieved NO response.
This is after repeated emails discussing the issue, that did come thru in a timely manner... I would think if I were waiting on someones response I would flag their email address and solve the issue at hand as quickly as possible, in an effort to make the issue as painless as possible, thereby MAYBE, just MAYBE keeping a customer......Sarcasm off*

she asked what I would like to do, I replied back SST8s in a different size or a refund.....

I have had the SST 6 LX for several years and they are really comfortable and still look brand new save for the fact that the toe on the trail foot shoe is dirty from approach contact.  I have another pair brand new in a box when these ones go belly up, but that probably won't be for a while.  I really like them.

I hope you get your issue with Dexter solved soon, and congrats on your new comfy shoes Buzzhead.. I would be willing to try Tour Ultras if the chick versions weren't so UGLY.

Until you try on a pair of Tour Ultras and walk around in them for awhile you have no idea what your missing. I have been wearing them for about 5 years now and have not found any other brand that has the comfort these shoes have from the second you put them on. Great slide & replaceable toe too.

I second what Mongo said:
After using several pairs of Dexters, the last being SST5, I just got sick of the poor quality.  I have had the same pair of ABS Tour Ultras for going on 7 yrs.  Still fit and feel great.

I wore sstV for over 5 years, Dexter replaced them for the lx's but prior to the lx's coming in I bought a pair of tour ultras, man there is no comparixon on feel or comfort, I will be purchasing a second pair for the closet as they are indeed the most comfortable pair of shoes i have.  the one thing I dont like is the replaceable toe cap, I have yet to find a cap (replacement) that fits like the one that wore off  my only complaint about them.  I hjave been bowling without the cap for a year and am starting to see them wear out

I was a DEVOTED dexter guy, 3 pr of SST5's, a pr of SST6's, and the 8's that I had so much trouble with, NO MORE.

I actually was worried about the width so I held them against one another and guess what....... they are the SAME.

I WILL be buying a New pair soon.... Nuttin wrong with the ones I got, I will put them up for backup.....

As soon as the replacements come in they are being shipped to my mate Rich in aussyland...... I want abosultely nothing to do with them, mostly because of the customer service.. or lack thereof...

Buzzhead, curious as to what the problem was with the SST8's. What it a sizing issue or something else. And if it was a sizing issue, how come you could not simply return them to where you bought them?

I guess i'm in the minority as I really like my SST8's, in fact if I had to choose i'd pick them over the Tour Ultras, I had the Tour Ultras before my SST 8's. I just like the SST 8's better, they have a few perks and are built very well, and the fact is its shoes, not everyone has the same preference and I enjoy how the 8's fit my feet better than my TU's ever did.

they sat up higher on the heel, if you turned them over and looked at th shoe from the bottom, the front seemed to go off in a weird angle compared to any other shoe I have seen.... my feet have not been in them in over a week and I am still tender at my toe joint from them. And I had none of these issues until I bought them..

WOW! An offset shoe!

I loved the feel of the Tour Ultras but I hated my slide choices being slide a mile or stop on a dime. That shoe was just to flat for my taste, felt good though!

pop_1, if you have wide feet give the tour ultra's a try anyway. i wear 10 1/2 EEEE in my new balance 622's and the tour ultra's fit just fine. i bought 10 1/2's in the tour ultra's and they fit fine. the kangarooo leather is very soft and supple and will stretch as you wear them------when i tie my shoes the eyelets almost touch.

the only thing i dont like about my sst8's is the felt slides and i burned out the traction sole at the toe i know its my own fault but the felt soles are a little slippery at first so it took little while to get use to.

yeah im thinkn the raised heel on the dexter is whats been give'n me slide problems for the past few years.... foot is turned more side-ways at the line.  on bad slides its all the to the side.. :-<   even find my self on my tippy toes also....   WTF.  im gone try some tour ultra/dynaroo's

I had Tour Ultras and while they were comfortable, the slide options sucked for me. I would either slide too much or not enough. I got some SST8's before the start of this season and my slide is now so much better and they feel just as comfy as the Tour Ultras to me. I've had the same slide sole on from the beginning and it still looks pretty new even after bowling 3 nights a week plus at least one day of practice. I'm also much more stable at the line with the SST8's. I guess different strokes for different folks though. I've had the SST 5's before too and every Dexter I've ever had has held up very well for me. I like to think that I take pretty good care of my shoes though.

I had the same problem thats why I have my pair of Ultra's just sitting in the closet. They actually ruined my foot work for a whole summer of bowling. Then I "fixed" my footwork by planting, which was horrible on my knee. Then bought a pair of Dexter's and within a couple weeks my footwork was vastly improved. Was thinking about bringing the tour ultra's back out to see how they would work with a Dexter slide on them since they were much more comfortable.

I bought SST 7's about two years ago. They have been good shoes. My only complaint is that they have stretched a bit more than I anticipated.

Otherwise, they have held up well and you can adjust the soles to get the slide combination you need.

the bowling center where i bowl my men's scratch league decided to resurface the wood approaches this week( way to go guys )and thus they were a lot slicker than usual. no problem....with 6 different soles and 6 different heels on my tour ultra's i simply changed heels and was solid all night. the guys who were wearing dexters couldn't find the right set-up and struggled with their slide all night. thanks again 3G.

I've gone through 2 pairs of the Tour Ultras. Well, actually I'm on my second pair. They are comfy, and I'm not complaining. The only thing, and I've seen this with my friends, too, is that the toe caps wear down really fast. I got mine around Christmas, and the toe cap is worn to the velcro already. This happened with my Sport Ultras when Dyno-Rooz was around.

Was an avid Linds guy for 21 years.  I needed a more adjustable shoe, my Xxtra's still slid too much on new synth approaches.  After reading this thread and a short discussion w/Greg Hoppe (thanks Greg!), I ordered up a pair of Tour Ultras.  Wow...fantastic shoe, used them for the first time tonight.  The Ultras have the adjustability I needed...while the #4 sole was a bit too much the #6 was full brake.  I ended up using the cleats...4 felt and 3 backskin, perfect combo.  The cleats are SOOO much better than those on the Linds....these actually fit flush.

I was very hesitant to order b/c I have a wide foot.  The Tour Ultras do stretch a bit and I had zero discomfort.  Very light and definitely stable!
