Does anyone else like to watch the old matches where the crowd cheered and clapped as the bowlers were on the approach?
Not making any reference to any particular recent bowlers but back in the days, it didn't seem to be that much of a distraction like todays bowlers seem to experience.
I use whatever ball works for me.

I think if your expecting it to be noisy, then it doesn't bother you. But if your under the expectation that its gonna be quiet, I can see it being a distraction.

I've thought the same thing and agree with the first comment also. It's a fine line between the two.

Oh ya the golden days of around 97-99 I think it was. I loved all the noise. I loved how it brought the best in the bowlers and all the emotion in them. I loved how Marshall Holman got excited. There was nothing wrong with it and I wish they went back to that format. The best shows I can remember was with Steve Hoskins and Brian Voss and even Walter before he got uptight on the "quiet shows".
Throughout the last decade how many times have we seen blowups from pba bowlers if a pindrop is heard or some other distraction like a camera or someone hollaring. Such names as Patrick Allen, Walter Ray Williams Randy Pederson(who could forget that blowup) to name a few.
Not to mention bowlers calling out to cameramen like Pete Weber last year. If there was crowd noise it doesn't matter as much about cameras flashing or someone coughing or someone insulting you.
