Title: arson low flare
Post by: Dave81644 on January 29, 2013, 10:28:25 PM
Man - is this a great piece
where have you been...........

very even rolling, smooth arcing piece
extremely predictable.
Nice move downlane, depends on pattern on how much this is

I will take the underlying grit from factory 500 + polish to 2000-3000 and then polish
just a tiny bit much on the old dry THS wood lanes
mine is a 50x4.5x30 which is pin over my ring finger

i can see another one drilled pin down in my future, especially for the sport conditions.
awesome piece where no doubt i can move out when everyone else is moving in

changed underlying grit to 3000 and then polish, pretty big difference in length,
better push, but still the same smooth, arcing motion.
carries quite well.

Love this piece for the meduim/dry or dry
depends on your layout and specs though

According to the guys at Hammer, this core is VERY cover dominant as opposed to core dominant. Different layouts will make 2-4 boards difference in ball reaction while altering the surface will make a 10-12 board difference.

Due to my rev rate and ball speed I am not a bowler who is typically able to use balls that are sanded and stacked. However, the box finish with a "4x4" layout and big weighthole I threw at the Hammer seminar was very clean, smooth and usable for me on the house pattern the lanes put out for us.

This is going to be a big seller....

Agree with all above... this is a great piece.I bowl in an old wood house and had to bring the surface up to 4000 to bring down the early hook. But once I did, it has been wonderful. 300-760 first full set with it and shot a nice 2170 all events in our city tourney with it. I can see this being an great selling ball for benchmark and tough patterns! Doug hit the nail on the head though in that surface makes all the difference in how this ball reads the lanes. Highly recommend this ball...

Im drilling one up tonight.  Looking forward to it.  I am looking for a ball that doesn't over-react on the back, and i think this is gonna work just fine.

You have hit the proverbial nail on the head with this Hammer :-) Performs exactly as advertised.

Based on the reviews, I'd pity favorite layout and changed the cover prep.

2hand is correct......slap your favorite layout on the ball and adjust coverstock from there.

Well, I received some help from Mitch Beasley on this one.
Advice was to drill it on the stronger side as if its drilled to weak, it will over/under some.
i shortened my pin from my normal 5" to 4.5" and had some medium angles on it

think its 55x4.5x30 and its plenty strong at 1000+polish right now, but extremly smooth, arcing and predictable, carry is unbelievably good.
this ball is a home run

I was harrassing my pro ever since I saw this ball during the wsob. I have a smooth 16lb anvil in my hand now. This is the first time I have considered buying two of the same ball just so I can use two different surfaces.

what should i do to the cover to tame it down?  Should i just add polish to the OOB finish?  Or should i do something to the cover first, then add polish to it?

Try 4000 first and see what you get.

Its 500 + polish OBB
It gives it some teeth while maintaining an even rolling arcing motion
does not over-react at all

have it at 3000+ polish and it seems like its overall 4-5 boards weaker
although it was not on the same condition
I can easily see having 2 of these, 1 pinup - other pin down

the factory finish is actually 500 + clean and sheen which is different than the factory finish polish. I think it is like the old clean and dull. The factory finish polish will give you a slightly differnt look

Sorry, but Clean and Sheen is nothing at all like Clean and Dull, which is simply a cleaner.
Clean and Sheen is a compound meant to smooth out very rough sanded area (360 - 500 grit)  from routing a plug down to the surface, to about 1000 grit and leaves a shine. Basically the result is 1000 grit polished.

If you sanded a ball to 1000 grit and then applied Factory Finish polish, it would be close to the Clean and Sheen finish but not exactly the same.

I stand corrected. it is a 1500 grit polish. but the point being it is not factory finish polish

First night on the team NATS pattern
the Arson Low flare is going to be very popular for this tournament
should sell a ton of them

perfect combination of even rolling and predictable motion off the end of the pattern.
had it at 2000 dull, will try it with the clean and sheen over that next week.
mine is pin in finger, i will drill another one pin down and a little longer pin for another option on these kind of patterns

Hammer really has a winner with this ball. It was somewhat overdue to have this type of piece in the lineup, but with the success of the IQ Tours and now the Arson Low Flare, I think we'll start seeing more of these types of pieces from other ball companies. Good job, Hammer!
