I love the motion of the Marvel Pearl, but I don't want to pay 200 for a NIB without at least exploring other options. With that being said, I'm in the market for a pearl with a strong cover and a low rg core. I believe my best option is either a Respect or a Respect Pearl. Which one is the closer comparison? IThe Marvel Pearl did get down the lane, but the cover did read the lane from front to back and it was not a back end monster (due to the lower rg and strong cover)
It's possible I might even have both at some point, but right now I'm looking for this specific motion.

The Respect is a hybrid so you'd be better off with the Respect Pearl.

But the Marvel Pearl has never rolled like a pearl, at all, ever, when thrown by anyone I have ever seen. Heck, it's almost more like a polished solid, maybe a polished hybrid. Very even rolling, very smooth, but very hard hitting. Few ((technically polished) pearls handle wet/drys or over/under patterns this well.

agreed, i would look more for a smooth rolling ball or ball motion rather than looking at "pearl" or "hybrid"

I am going based on the way it rolls. And I agree on the way it rolls. It did not roll like a pearl once so ever. The reason I mentioned pearl in my first post was so I didn't get recommendations like the Fusion. The IQ Tour is smooth, but different from the Marvel Pearl. Hope this makes sense.
-
I'd say strength-wise the original Respect is closest except from what I've seen it seems to have a little more backend than the Marvel Pearl
-
I have thrown both. For me, the Respect is about 2-3 more overall than the Marvel Pearl. It is close in terms of reaction. May need to either drill weaker or go a pinch weaker in surface prep. Can't go wrong with a Respect though.
-
I dunno - I've thrown all three and neither the Respect nor Respect Pearl gave me a look like the Marvel Pearl (which I didn't like, to be honest). My Respect is exceptionally strong on the back end. Twohanded, I saw on another thread that you're going with the Respect Pearl. I hope that it gives you the reaction that you seek. Either way, you're getting a pretty good ball.
-
Actually I going to have both now. I got a great offer that I could refuse on a respect and it is set up how I would have drilled it. Between that and the Pearl I should get some great ball reactions. I don't the motion I seen on the Respect Pearl when having smaller VAL angles (good ball but there are others that can do that job). I want to go with a higher VAL angle to smooth down the reaction to friction and potientially a double thumb or p3 weight hole to increase the midlane reaction. I'll have the Respect first so I will report on that ball first. I won't have the Respect Pearl until I get my other balls.

Drilled up an original Dream for someone with the same layout he had on his Marvel Pearl and it replaced the MP in his bag pretty seamlessly!
-
Good call on the Dream Thomas. My Dream is very smooth rolling for a pearl. If you do go with the Respect Pearl make sure to put a layout on it to smooth out the backend. I went with a pin down cg kicked out about 2 inches with a p3 big weight hole and it is very smooth for a pearl, great roll
-
I've thrown the Respect Pearl and the Marvel Pearl and I have had them pretty close. I feel that the Respect Pearl starts up a couple feet sooner and handles volume better
-
That's what I was going to say had a Marvel Pearl and replaced with a Dream, they are pretty close
-
The only think that scares me about the Dream is that it is asymmetric and the Marvel Pearl wasn't.

If you go with control layouts, you will have a similar ball motion.
-
Sorry about the huge delay. So is the Dream a better Marvel Pearl replacement? I'm almost certain it will be retired in the next few months with the addition of the Dream Big Pearl.
-
It's not necessarily a replacement, however I feel it uses R2X...the MP cover. I would put a control layout, like iamone said. For me it would be pin down...under the ring.
The phaze I feel is another option. The colors on that ball make it appear more skid flip that it really is..
As much as the optimus isn't a MP...it is the same cover on a symmetrical core...
