Let's Get to the Point for this one!

Brunswick has answered the Call! to put some power
and Excitement back into its Products!

The New Power Groove Series is Brunswicks entry into
the "Low End" price catagory but with one difference!

PERFORMANCE!!!!! And Performance is what you will get!

Those of you who get this ball will be surprized at the
Great Hitting Power and "Hook"! that this ball will
provide! We were excited to finally get our Reactive and
Pro-Active Power grooves on the lane.
(See our review for the Pro-Active Version)

We drilled this ball basic label, with a 2:00Pin placement
and the CG. in the palm. With a straight path to the test
lanes we were in play from the start on lanes that already
had some traffic on them, (Early Morning Seniors League).

The Power Groove was smooth and controlled! with what I
would call a "Friendly" Arc/Snap Hook!

I was more impressed with the Hitting Power!!
Most of the time you "Give Up" something in this catagory
but Not Here!!! The Addition of the (2) Power Cylinders in the
bottom of the ball provide for strong hook and hitting power!

Those of you who are of a higher average and skill level will find
that one of theses Power Grooves will make an Excellent "Dry/Lane"
condition ball!!! Or even when you are on one of those "Funky"
lane conditions where all the "High Powered" stuff is Over/Under,
make sure you have a "Power Groove" handy to get you threw!

Brunswick now has an entry to compete with the Ebonite Tornado's!

The two different color versions will give bowlers a choice and at
the same time it will be a great "Value" for the price point!

We will Highly recommend this new "Power Groove" Series to all bowlers!

Yes,As Bowlpro has commented on...The Brunswick Power Groove is a bit different comparing with other manufactures .Scouts,Flame & Bighit's,Tornado's and others.
What seperates this is the 2 bottom dynamic caps.Quite intriging that it comes from the big "B". They'll generally save this for there higher end products.
Good promotions Mr Tomaras, maybe now us proshop operators will again sell The big Brunswick.
To bowlpro,is there anything that you don't recommend to your "customers"?
I would love to have your steady diet for my used ball rack...
Remarkable.

i drilled this ball with the pin below the bridge. this ball hits great and is the best ball made for the price. this is an amazing cover core combination. this is a great entry level ball. this ball has great length and recovery. the ball has amazing hit and carry for such an angled breakpoint. I would not recomend this ball as a cotrol ball but i deffinately recomend this ball to anybody who wants a great ball at a graet price.

First the ball is drilled with Brunswick layout 2L(http://brunswickftp.com/Product%20info/Power%20Groove%20Ice%20Blue%20Pearl.pdf) Pin above The ring finger...

This ball goos very long before it makes a sharp turn to the left.
I stand around the second dot from the center & throw the ball between second & third arrow (from the right).

The Power Groove Reactive hits very hard and carries very VERY good...
If you get it in the pocket, you're almost sure to strike (except if you are very unlucky)...
Off-hits are also carried extremely well:
light hits give you lots of strikes
if you're straight on the one pin there is a good chance it won't leave you a split... (only had 1 so far)

Overall a very good ball for light & medium oil
I'm gonna try it on heavy oiled lanes soon, but don't expect too much on that condition, anything else will be ok....
Recommended to every bowler, worthy addition to the arsenal!!!

New season's resolution: More brevity, less BS.

Layout:

Brunwick 4L layout, pin above the bridge, CG out about 1". Ending statics 1 1/8 top, 3/4 side, 1/4 finger. This gives me about 3" of flare and a nice continuous backend. This guy would be fine in any length layout (the Brunswick 'L' layouts).

Comments:

I've thrown it for a month now in 3 very different houses and found it very useful. I consider it the best of the non-2-piece crop; I'd take it over a Scout or a Tornado any day. Actually, I look in the closet, and I'd trade you straight up for about half the 2-pieces in there.

Despite the high RG, it's a good length - long, but not nearly as long as either a Scout or a Too Hot. It's one of the earlier-rolling pearls I've used.

There are 3 really good things about it:

1) This coverstock gives me the best midlane read and the most forgiveness at the breakpoint of any pearl I've thrown. I've owned Superflex, Supertack and Curleyon pearls, and this is superior -  it is neither as squirty, violent or over/under as the others.

2) Hit is indistinguishable from the better 2-pieces. Moderately strong, not a big hooker, but a big hitter.

3) It's a perfect ball to use against Twisters, and exceptional on an extreme wet/dry on a lighter pattern. It doesn't get overly concerned when it first hits the dry.

Ratings:

I'd give it a solid 8.5.

Control: 8.5. The most controllable pearl resin I've thrown yet.

Versatility: 9. A good all-around ball for the light to light mediums. I can play a lot of different lines with it, do a lot with the backend behavior. Handles messy backends better than the other pearls I've used.

Hit and carry: 8.5. You'd swear it was a strong 2-piece. Plenty of ball for my two brickyards.

========================
Quick update - I'm having some success playing it inside on a short, dry Christmas tree. The midlane strength gives me a good breakpoint, it hits great from 4th arrow and it doesn't burn up in the dry. Very comfortable ball to play on this condition, so much better than a Scout or Too Hot.

I picked this ball up last week, after running into so many "short oil" patterns that my Lane 1 equipment was way too aggressive.  Boy, was I shocked, and totally impressed!!  Got the ball drilled last Thursday morning, using pattern 2L from the Brunswick drilling sheet.  First time on the lanes Thursday night, shot 245 out the box!!  Ended up with a 667 series.  Ball rolled farther
down the lane with a lot less effort, and made a nice move to the pocket.  For the money, I did not expect this type of hitting power!!  This ball carries real well.  It is condition specific, and gets a little squirrley on fresh oil, but when they breakdown, or on second league shot, it's incredible!!

This ball is a , please don't laugh, 12 pounder. 2.5 inch pin and 3.3 ounces of top weight before drilling. The pin is a bit right of ring finger with cg in span. I got this ball to practice a no thumb release. This change has moved me from a lower rev guy with high speed to a very high rev rate with medium speed. I track right next to the fingers and about an inch away from the now useless thumbhole. I have no idea where that puts my new PAP.
The only thing I can really compare this ball to is plastic. I was expecting a relatively small difference between this low level reactive and plastic. Wrong! The Power Groove hooks easily 15 boards more than plastic. Hit is really silly good for the weight. I'm leaving solid nine pins with a 12 pound ball!!
The Powerkoil 17 cover on this ball is quite strong and will start as soon as it reads dry in box condition. I had it polished to a high gloss and it now gets a couple more feet of length.
If you supply some turn, I think this ball will really surprise you with its relatively high hook potential and good hit. Lesser handed players would probably be better off with a ball with more core.
My scores aren't up but I sure am having fun flinging the ball!

02/04
I tried this ball in 15 lbs. I got great reaction and hit, but the ball was too heavy (I went back to 14#) so I don't roll it. Very nice ball. Superior to many $200 balls out there.

I had this ball for a month now and it is the first one out of my bag now.  I had this drilled with the sheet L#2, thinking it was not going to be a big snapping ball.  Well I was somewhat wrong.  The first night I go and bowl on my friday night league, it's all for fun and i figured that it would be a good time to try it.  The lanes are the most unpredictable lanes in the world.  One week it will have some oil and the next will have none.  There was some oil that night nice 10 by 10 pattern.  It took me a game to get use to it but after that I started to play about the 15 board to the 5, a little slower than normal, heavy revs, and the ball just did not miss the pocket.  Ended with a 215 and a 211.  On the same league right now (lanes are bone dry) i boosted up the speed and still playing the same line and I'm getting even more action.  Then I bowled a tournament with a heavy oil, but flying backends.  It just snapped right and was in the pocket all day.
This ball really is worth the 50 dollars.  You get great snap, but it is very controllable, you can cover boards and still play a flat line too.  It is a good ball and i recommend it to anyone if they are lookin for a dry to med ball.

This is the most surprising ball I've ever rolled.  I'm a 15-16mph, high rev bowler that likes to swing it.  My current arsenal includes a sanded Columbia Complete Chaos, a Lane #1 Cherry Bomb, and a polished Spirit II for the dry.  I got this ball from buddiesproshop.com (which I highly recommend, btw) in Ice Blue 15# for 50 bucks.

First off, the color of the ball, and the pearl, is gorgeous.  I had it drilled label, with no weight hole.  I left the cover in box condition, and headed to my local budget house, to catch a lane after leagues were done.  Let me tell you, this ball helped my game a ton.

The conditions were a normal house shot, on fairly new wood lanes.  I moved right, and played a more up and in shot, instead of swinging it like my Complete Chaos.  The ball had INCREDIBLE hitting power, and a very nice, controllable hook.  I had more pin action with this ball than with anything I've ever used.  It just exploded the deck, and had enough carry to finish a Brooklyn hit with regularity.  Several times, I hit light, only to have a scout spin accross the deck, and finish off those pesky 10 pins.

This is now the first ball out of my back, and what I pick up if my Complete Chaos won't get down the lane.  IMHO, the best, cheapest ball there is.

I am just getting back into bowling after about a 38 year hiatus.  I am only a sub in a 4-man mens league, but I get to bowl almost weekly.  I had been using house balls which didn't fit well. Consequently, I couldn't throw a hook and I actually hurt my hand because the ball(s) didn't fit properly. Any ball that is fit and drilled properly for your hand would be a big improvement over a house ball.

So I decided I needed to spring for my own ball and since I was making the investment, I wanted a ball that I could learn to hook.  After extensive internet research including this site, I decided to get a Brunswick Power Groove Reactive.  Incidentally, I decided against getting it on-line as I didn't think I would save considering that I would have had to pay delivery and for ball drilling anyway.  I also felt I would get better service from the pro shop that drilled my ball if I bought it from them.  Not only was the service great, but the operator took me out to the lanes and watched me bowl the equivalent of about two strings (the scoring system was turned off) and helped me with my new hook release, targeting, etc.  If my total cost was more than if I bought on line (and I doubt it), it was worth it.

But let me tell you about the Power Groove.  Before Power Groove, my average was 123 with no hook. I have thrown 6 games with the Power Groove with an average of 155, and I'm just learning to hook, which is easy with the Power Groove, especially on dry lanes. The amazing thing is that over the 6 games, I haven't had one split, not even a little one. The more experienced bowlers I play with have all commented on the great carry I get with the new ball. Incidentally, I had the ball drilled finger tip with layout #2 on the Brunswick chart.

I also considered the Columbia Scout Reactive and the Ebonite Tornado either of which would also be a good first hooking ball, so I understand, but I am delighted with the Power Groove Reactive.

I was looking for a good dry lane ball, but inexpensive, and this ball is the ticket. Mine is a 15# Ice Blue Pearl drilled over the label, I didn't want alot of hooking action with it so I went with a simple drilling. Our lanes get bone dry in our late league shift, and I needed something that would stay on the lane. This ball holds it's line and makes a nice turn to the pocket. The ball has alot more pin action than I thought it would, which is nice. Even on medium oil, it still works very good for me, put a little more hand on it and it's still easy to control. I give this an A+ in my book, I have a 137 average, and it's helping it climb every week. Way to go Brunswick!

I bought my power groove last week for a dry lane ball to replace my storm Big Hit. I love this ball but it isn't a dry lane ball. It hooks more than my silencer and my erase-it. It carries very well. I have had probaly 40 strikes since I got it and I have left 9 tin pins. That is pretty good for me knowing that nine times out of ten I leave a ten pin. Mine is drilled with the pin above and between the finger grips. I am a high rev medium speed bowler and if your like me then you should get one. My groove is the chrome and yellow one but I think it is the same as the one in the picture.

I owned the Gold-Chrome PG bought NIB. Specs:

16lbs
2-3" pin
Drilled pin above and between fingers
cg in line below fingers
Box finish

I've seen this ball kill for others, but, with this drilling, this was a waste of space in my bag. I bought this ball to be a good dry-lane option, what I got was a ball that never did the same thing twice. I could play three shots up the first arrow with a nice, hard hitting move back to the hole, but the fourth, with the same release, revs, location, etc, would snap out of the building before the fifth skated 55 feet. I'm not saying that this is a bad ball, it was just a bad combo of drilling and reaction for me and what I was looking for. This was so over-under it was comical. It pained me to sell this one, as it was one of the most pleasing balls to the eyes that I have had in a long time, but, nevertheless, performance problems made me get rid of that one in less than two weeks. Good ball with the right drilling, but it sucked wind for me.

Just started bowling about 6 weeks ago.  When I started I could get around 150 tops straight bowling, probably averaged around 130 both with house balls.  I went to the pro shop and asked for a ball I could learn to hook with.  He recomended a power groove reactive.  I got a blue pearl one and had it finger tip drilled.  It took a bit to get used to the fingertip drill and so I decided to get finger grips. Since then I have bowled a 190 for my high game and average better than 160.  However, I've found that this ball hooks way too much in dry conditions, my best score was around 150.  I confirmed with the desk jockey that the lanes had not been oiled yet.  I think overall this is a great ball, though I don't have many to compare to.

I purchased a yellow Power Groove and set it up so that the pin is a 7:30 drilling with respect to the cg. I had to drill a balance hole because the side/finger-weights were both 1 oz. I didn't want to risk it being on the borderline. The balance hole is about 2.5" above my PAP on my VAL.

Anyhow, the ball works VERY well... it gets into a nice early roll, but finishes. It doesn't roll out. The coordinates with respect to my axis are 6x3.5 with the pin on the midline, with the cg about 1" under the ring finger.

This is my first time trying this drilling, so I'm not really sure if it's the ball, the drilling, or a combination of the two... but the ball works very well. The balance hole seems to migrate to axis at around 45 ft... it's pretty cool to see.

Bought an Ice Blue Pearl off of Ebay for $31 including shipping. 16lbs with a  4 3/4" pin and 2.5 oz of TW. Drilled it 5x4 with a small weight hole. I was expecting a good dry condition ball with length and a very angular move to the pocket. I wasn't expecting much pop out of it, just something I could get to the pocket when the lanes were drying out. And I was interested in trying this coverstock because I had heard really good things about it. Tried it out on my summer league shot that is normally bone dry gutters (so bad that your ball will either cross or roll out before it gets to the headpin if you hit it the wrong way) with a light to medium blend from 8-8. Midlane can be very spotty and carrydown can be brutal sometimes as well. I generally play 17-11 to try and stay away from the desert on the gutter standing 27 or so using my Hotwire drilled 5x6.

To start, the ball reads the midlane much better than I had expected. It's much more controllable than I thought it would be. It still has a little jump at the end, but is not nearly the skid/snap ball I had imagined. I was able to play a number of different lines with it during shadow with good success. If I stayed behind it, I could easily square up with it and if I tried to loop it a bit inside, I was able to turn the corner as well. I started the night around 15 pushing the ball to 10 with good speed. As the lanes broke down around the end of the second game, I moved inside the 4th arrow and came around the ball more swinging it out to 13-14. I carried very well from both angles. You do need to make sure not to try and really free wheel this ball. When I really got comfortable, I purposely sent it out about 4 boards more to see if it would recover and it just didn't have the power to do it, too much angle for it. To me, it's a better moderate swing and square up ball. I think it gives you more area left than right. Then again, a different layout and pin length may help you with that as well.

The biggest surprise was the carry and hit on this ball. I had a Scout years ago and still have a Big Hit Pearl for tournaments. The Power Groove out hits and out carries both of them by leaps and bounds. I was amazed at the pin action this ball provided. As good, if not better than some of my higher end equipment. I haven't thrown a Brunswick ball in years but this one really surprised me.

If you can still find one cheap, I would definitely say to try one out, you might be very pleasantly surprised.

Get in the Groove!

General Info:

Lane Conditions:  Medium-light
Typical Conditions:  Different shots
Type of Lane:  Wooden
What part of the lane did you play?  3rd arrow
Weight of bowling ball: 15
Surface of bowling ball:  Polished
Likes:  Nice skid, then a good snap.
Dislikes:  Can’t handle too much oil very well.

Ball specs before drilled:
Ball Weight:15 pounds, 4 ounces
Top Weight:  2-3ounces
Pin Distance:  3 inches
Drilling:  Pin over the ring, CG stacked below.

Hook Potential:  Medium-low
Hook Shape:  Skid-snap
Flare Potential:  .041 (medium)
Radius of Gyration:  2.66 (very high)

Bowler:  I am a tweener, with high speed and my revs aren’t anything special.  High tracker.

*All ratings are of 12 strikes. 1 strike being the lowest, 12 strikes being the highest of ratings.  A spare denotes a “half” rating.  A gutterball is, well, 0.
Ex.)  6 Strikes and a spare= 6.5/12 rating.

LANE CONDITIONS:

Flood:  Forget about it.  This is just not nearly enough ball for a flood.  Good for a 10 pin ball.  Gutterball.

Heavy oil:  This ball will not move on heavy oil.  Just not enough ball to get rolling.  Goes far too long, and won’t have enough to move.  Though you’d have to be crazy to think otherwise.  1 spare.

Medium-Heavy oil/Carrydown:  Like the heavy oil, it just is not going to move.  The only way to make it work is it slow down speed, rev it up good and play straight down and in.  Better off using another ball.  2 strikes.

Medium oil: For higher rev players, you can actually use the ball for medium.  I myself can just play down and in on the 5 board, but you need some backend for the ball to move still.  7 strikes and a spare.

Medium-light oil:  This is *the* condition for this ball.  Lighter side of medium, above dry.  This ball will still go long, but will snap hard off the dry and create good carry.  Ideal ball for the condtion.  11 strikes.

Light/Dry: You can use the ball pretty good for light, maybe just swing it out, watch it snap on the backend.  Dry, you’ll be standing on 40, swinging out to 5 and hope it doesn’t go brooklyn.  You would probably be better off with urethane or plastic.  9 strikes.

Sport Shot: Well, the sport shot I bowled on was heavy oil, so I couldn't use this ball.  Like I said earlier, this ball won't move in heavy.  But if the sport shot had been medium-light, I think this ball would have been fine, as I have not experienced a whole lot of over/under.  PROJECTED:  9 strikes.

Hit: I was amazed by this balls carry.  I suppose those 2 cylinders Brunswick put in helped the ball a lot, besides the flare.  This hits as well as any of my mid-range or high-end equipment.  Hits better than any pancake core for sure.  10 strikes.

Looks:  I have the ice blue version of the ball.  It looks pretty nice shined up.  Kind of purple though, I wish they had just made it blue or purple, not the weird combination.  But at least it’s not some girly-man purple, as the Govinator would say.  8 strikes and a spare.

OVERALL:  This is *the* ideal ball for medium-light oil patterns, as well as light, and normal medium for players with hand.  It has a nice long skid, and if there is dry it will take off.  But the ball doesn’t like carrydown, so you will know when to put it away when it just continues to skid.  Pretty versatile, though.  10 strikes.

Specs
Ball : Power Groove Purple/Silver Pearl
Pin : 3 inch pin
Drill : 4 X 3 3/4 stacked. X Hole 2 1/2 inches below my PAP
Surface : Factory Finish
Weight : 15lbs

Overall
I wanted a ball that would get good length and be very aggesive on the backend. Many people told me regardless of the drill these balls are just not for medium oil boy were they wrong. This ball covers more boards than my stinger low flare particle (sanded down to 800 grit). I have thrown this ball in a heavy carry down situation that only my swamp monster could get through. It worked fine I moved over and play second arrow and the carry was great. I have been having trouble finishing off my arsenal for sport shots but I came to the conclusion that this ball with this drilling would fit nice.

Fresh shot 32 feet
I started off by playing up the boards with medium grip pressure and coming straight up the back of the ball. This shot didn't work well because it was over reacting on the backend but still got good length. Moved over and played 15 board out to 8 board with medium grip pressure and keeping straight up the back of the ball. This ball tended to over react a little if I pushed it out past 8 and did not keep my speed up. If I pulled the ball with some speed and only missed by a couple boards left it would hit the pocket really high and would leave a 4 pin if the speed was off it would cross over. Keep every thing the same I moved to 25 board and placed the break point at 10 board. This shot lined up well. It was not over reacting if I pulled it and I still had some room to the right to miss with out it over reacting.

Pro's
gets clean throw the lane and is snappy

Con's
This ball is very touchy.

Info on me: High rev bowler and high axis tilt.
Lane conditions: Medium

Alright, first off I want to say this ball is totally underrated. This ball hits like a truck and its perfect for you high rev players. I drilled this ball up tonight and I only bowled one game but score was 196. Sorry Im not totally sure about the drilling. But for the price of this ball, this ball is a must have to me. I got this ball 115 dollars all drilled with fingertips. Well I will post back  once I bowl league.

I posted a review october 7 and am bowling league tomorrow and will post my series shortly after.  I believe i should shoot upwards of 550 after bowing a 196 in the first game i ever shot with it. I haven't shot a game since but it is a different house and the lanes are strictly medium unlike the house I bowled a 196 it was medium oily and that was hooking of the lane.  Might have to take some revs off to keep it in the pocket but i don't know yet.  Write back if you have a review on this ball.

Thank You, Dan

Power Groove Teal/Purple sanded
15lbs
3" pin
3.7 top to start
Drilling: used something similar to 3E on Brunswick drill chart, cept the pin is swung out more and the Thumb is drilled into the cg. Ball had too much top to begin, had to place a weight hole just outside the thumb to get thumb weight down to 1/2.

Drilled this up to be a "light" oil ball, something nice and smooth and wont overreact. It does that as expected, except it hooks twice as much as I thought it would. Shined it up to get more length and now it is money. Tried it out on our Firday night league in practice and playing a little 8-5 bounce, ball went through the beak in a hurry. Moved 4 right to play 12-5 and washout was result. Went back to playing 10 out to about 3 with a little speed and ball reacts beautifully off of the dry, smooth and continuous through the pocket. Ball doesnt have the "sound" of a bomb going off when it hits the pins, obviously due to the disc core, but carry percentage was great. Used it the last 2 games and went 200-225 with a pocket 7-9 (got too fast) and a some wonderful spare shooting (oops). Ball matches up well for me outside on a house shot and will be used for a 12 game marathon tournament in Hudson, WI in 2 weeks (reason why I drilled it to begin with). Ball is great for the price, has some hit/hook power to it, carries well for a "entry level ball", and would fit in perfectly for a tournament arsenal when the lanes break down and/or get dry. Glad I drilled this one, its a keeper.

Just got this ball drilled tonight and I absolutely love it on a med. oil shot. The ball is drilled to go long. but if you crank up the speed and the revs it will give you a good mid lane reading. It hits the pocket very hard and sends out some good messenger pins.

Power Groove Purple Silver
Weight is 15lbs
Top Weight is 2.5oz
Pin is 1-2 inches
Drill is pin on the center grip and cg kicked out an inch and weight hole placed in the thumb quadrant.

Overall
I was up in Davenport, Iowa at Miller Time Bowl and I saw this drill on a ball and loved the reaction so I wanted to try it. The ball will never work in oil and is very hard to carry on regular 30ft house shots. The lane needs to be burned. This ball is clean through the heads and tends to start breaking late mid lane but once it breaks, it just rolls. There is no jumpiness to it. I thought I had a dry lane ball in Zone X Low Diff but man this ball does nothing. I have bowled on two patterns enough I thought I could post a review.

35ft sport pattern
I started out like I do most shot and line straight up with 10 board. I had medium grip pressure and started by staying up under the ball. I never really got this ball to check up to the pocket. Tends to roll out before it gets there and hit the three pin. So I tried upping the grip pressure to most I could. It started to check up and even hit the head pin but I was leaving some two, tens so I moved from this shot. Later I tried playing up the one board with high grip pressure (everyone should know that the one board on any house ever gets oiled). This ball got down the lane and found its way to the pocket with out leaving splits. If I pulled it would leave 1,2,4 which is not hard to pick up. I missed outside on once in five games. This is were I shot most of the day. Shot 248, 162, 195, 210, 220.

22ft pattern buffed to 30ft.
This was a dry shot so I started a little unorthodox for me and played deep. Swing Fourth arrow with no hand but getting around the side of the ball going to 10 board. This shot tended to be touchy so I did not stay there for long. Left a lot of ten pins and sevens. Therefore, I upped my speed and keeping my grip pressure light and coming up the back of the ball and hitting the higher amounts of oil around the five board. This shot worked great. I was kicking a higher percentage of my single pins and even scored well. Shot 220, 170, 186, 225, 220, and 237. I liked this shot all day so I never moved.

The Power Groove Reactive is a pretty good ball. Congratulations Brunswick you have a winner! I just started bowling again after knee surgery and a three year break. I didn't know where to start to get back into the swing of things(good thing I kept four balls). I'm a tweener so I don't know how many revs I get but, everyone I bowl with says I rev the ball up pretty good. I throw a pretty good ball at 16 mph(thanks Wesley Strike Zone Lanes). The power groove was drilled for a medium lane condition and it has a 4inch pin(get back to you on the drill pattern and pin placement). Most of the time I can throw It on a fresh lane condition at my regular house but, I have to play down the boards around 10 or 5 board on a good day. With fast back ends the ball hits like a truck and carries really good. If I get to excited and hit it to hard I leave stuff(nine pin) now and then. It's pretty reliable and the first ball I normally pull out of my bag most of the time. So reliable I just purchased a second one, the purple and teal reactive(it's shell is a little softer then my first the chrome and yellow pearl groove). It works pretty good when the lanes break down allowing me to swing the ball and do what I do best! I'm thinking about getting the teal and orange pearl just to try new drilling from what I currently have. Yea.... It's a very good ball for the price. Helped me ave. 204 ,shot one of my higher sets this year(696)and shot 290 about 9 times during pot bowling.

Me-
Medium/Low Speed
Medium/High revs relative to speed
Prefer a small swing shot i.e. 15 - 5

I initially purchased this ball to try out a drop in ball weight from 16 to 15 lbs. It has instead caused me to rethink my arsenal. I own a few balls, and this one is simply the best one I've ever had match up to ME.
The ball is drilled with the pin above and to the right of ring finger with the cg to the right of grip center, no weight hole. I have been able to use this ball on any and all conditions I have encountered at various houses whether oily or dry, short or long as long as there is some back end. When longer/oilier I square up and stay behind the ball, and move in and circle it when drier/shorter. Obviously when the back ends are oily this ball is not great, but if you stay soft and keep the revs up it is passable.

This is simply a great peace of equipment. The core creates a good few inches of flare, but at the same time I can kill it and roll it straighter at spares easier than any other ball I own. This ball is more versatile, powerful, and predictable than any other ball I own. It put my Rip, Xception, and Shock Zone to shame.

I honestly think that anyone who would call my Red Teal Pearl, or any of the other Power Groove Reactives light oil balls have either never thrown one, or if they have, have no hand what-so-ever. At the very least this is a solid medium oil ball, and to me is easily more preferable to any of the high powered expensive stuff that simply doesn't out hook or out hit it in my hands. Not to mention that not being some souped up hook in a box I can use it all night. In fact, I am now plan to build a 4 ball arsenal with a spare ball, a PG Dry-R, my reactive, and then a PG Particle, and all for the price of 2 "high performance" balls.

I am not the best bowler on my team. I'm averaging something like a 150, and am using only this ball. I bowl on just about any lane condition thinkable. I have no idea what drill pattern I'm using, but it seems to work out okay. The big thing is, against a bunch of people with 200 averages and 6 balls, I seem to be the best at changing lane conditions. This ball will give pretty much the same results on any surface. I'm fingertipped and I hook.

my first reactive ball. i got this 3 years ago and i still use it in league play in wooden, lightly oiled lanes and average 180. but when i took this ball to the english junior nationals i bowled a 654, on synthetic highly oiled lanes. this ball has fantastic versatility the perfect introduction to fingertip reactive bowling. i am bowling in the english county championships in 2 weeks and this will no doubt be the first out of the bag.

Purple/Silver
Likes: Excellent length and carries the pins well. Nice turn to the pocket. Great bang for the buck. Looks like a BVP Punisher
Dislikes: Availability. Hard to find.

(3" pin w/ 2.5 oz tw) I purchased the Power Groove as an experiment because I wanted to drop weight from a 16# to a 15# ball. It was a good choice. The lighter weight is more comfortable. For a $57 ball, this PG series really is impressive! It carries the pins very well and has a nice arc. I can see why other bowlers are impressed at the value/performance of this ball. OOB finish, third arrow, sweeping out to about the 8th board and BOOM on medium conditions. It really hooks nicely.

The only thing that I have found puzzling is that I tend to track across a portion of the thumb hole at times. I didn't do this before. It is probably my release with a lighter weight ball.

This is a good choice for ANY bowler. New or vet, young or not so young. It works and does a surprising job at that. Go ahead, get in the groove. Yeah!

I have the purple/silver one. I bought this ball to go between my BVP Punisher and Power Groove Dry/R, something that would turn up sooner than the Dry/R but be smoother than the Punisher. I definitely got what I wanted.

The ball was drilled label, except with a shorter pin and swung out closer to my pap, so it's my only arsenal ball where the pin is under the ring and a couple inches to the right. I left it box finish. My Punisher has a 5+ inch pin and is also label, putting it a couple inches above ring. My Dry/R is more normal with the pin a little above and to the right of ring. I also have a Lane #1 XXXL that's drilled stacked leverage.

I bowled a few games on a house shot, Saturday night @ 9pm, maybe 5-6 games on the lanes but they play drier than a lot of other places. Well maintained wood that nevertheless should be replaced, with guardian. The way the lanes were playing, I could swing anything out to 3 or 4 and have it come charging back. Using the PGR this way resulted in a satisfactory reaction of course, but that's not why I got it (that's the Punisher's realm). I squared up more, throwing right down 11 and it made a smooth and continuous move to the pocket. Where the Punisher and Dry/R rev up right off my hand and go a long way before snapping, this ball seems to hold off on revving up until the later part of the lane, but the milder coverstock prevents overreaction.

In short, I got exactly what I wanted. I saw this ball in the hands of a high speed high rev cranker and marveled at how smooth it looked. I had a gaping hole in my tournament arsenal between my Punisher (one of the most underrated balls out there right now) and my Dry/R (ditto), and this is admirably filled by the Power Groove Reactive, though honestly I would have preferred the now discontinued solid version (and I would have shined the heck out of it).

I have the Teal and Green, it has been Ole'Faithful. I've avged over 160 with that ball. I started last year. I got this at the end of league took my avg from 102 to 110. This year my avg is floating around 140 - 169. It hooks about 10 boards any moment. It is very versitale. Can play swing shot out to 10 and Ole' Faithful will come roaring back. Hits like a Truck. Brunswick is good, Hammer may be a little better at times. Arsenal, Brunswick Power Groove, Punisher, Hammer-Faball 3-D High Rev Offset, Ebonite Magnum, and a mean flooded hooker in the near future.

Review #2 - I felt the ball was acting a little jumpy in the backend for what I wanted it for, so I took the surface to 2000 abralon, no polish. Holy cow, this ball is AMAZING now. Buttery smooth roll down the whole lane, still overall skid snap but it rolls "heavier" now. This surface on my Dry/R was a success too.

This ball is essentially a higher RG Sapphire Zone, remember that. For the price, you can't beat having the two Power Grooves in your arsenal for the drier conditions. Get 'em, put a simple drill on, tweak the surface, and you'll have a great arsenal for late shifts and Guardian/old wood houses.

Color Silver/Purple Drilled 2L Pin In with X hole and Polish. I can't wait to review this ball. Everytime I used this ball it always amazed me. Of course it does hook as much as my Inferno's but this ball come up Strong and Clean at the backend. Not just that It Hit like a Ton. I'm getting one for my Wife to replace her Black Attack Zone.

After a 10 year layoff, I decided to get back to bowling again. I got a chrome yellow Power Groove.  on meduim lanes it is very nice. But on oily it seemed almost straight until I slowed down and then started giving my a nice little hook again.. 4th time out with it, only the 2nd time on oily lanes, I blew an easy spare in the 10th and still got a 200 with it.  I'm certianly happy, my best game every (many years ago) was 243.

This is a MUST have for a tourney player.

When everyone else is against the ball return, I bring this out, play the track area and smash the rack.  It gets thru heads very very clean and has a predictable reaction.  No surprise left turns with this ball.  It is very even off the breakpoint a responds very well to changes in hand position.

I plan to add a Dry/R also for those "hillbilly" tourneys where they start with a THS wall and put 3 shifts on it.

This is a quality ball for any bowler. For the beginner, it works well as their first reactive ball, and for the experienced bowler, it fits in nicely at the bottom of any arsenal. However, in carrydown this ball becomes as useless as A-Rod in the ninth inning. It gets down the lane nicely and carries the corners out very well. Overall, this is a good ball and one I feel every bowler should have one in their bag(but I currently don't have one, so I can't talk.) Good job Brunswick.

Do not let the price fool you.  If the lanes are drying out, or if you like to start on the dry and have fresh backends, this ball is a killer.

With so many balls resembling grenades, my Groove keeps the pins low and "mixing" instead of flying up and over the corner pins.  One of my leagues is a second squad on the pattern so I can use this ball anytime and just play the "down and in" shot while others are crossing lots of boards with erratic results.

My biggest regret is that I don't go to this ball sooner than I do. There are plenty of balls that cost more, so I feel obligated to try them first, which is just plain stupid.

I have mine drilled strong so I'm not afraid to try it, but keep it shiny so it glides down the lane and turns left.

Most bowlers could use a ball like this one. Remember, high score wins!

My last review on this ball was 10/24/2006. I'm starting to struggle on all of my Inferno ball due to both bowling place I bowl starting to used thin oil on the lanes that dries in few hours. So all of my Inferno starting to burn and hook early.  So, I added my Reactive Groove to my arsenal. Wow! This ball just Spin right thru that very thin oil and get the job done. I got 289 back to back and 299 in 2 days of practice. So far out of 30+ games I average 230+. I'm getting the Dry/R to test it.
Added to this review this is now a 300 ball.

It is what it is.
Bought ball on E-bay. (thanks for free shipping GLC) Being a fan of PK17, this is the third P/G that I have drilled up. The first two were ok.But very skid/flip in reaction. This one was a cheap experiment. I started with a 3-4" pin ball. I drilled the pin on my PAP and turned the CG towards the center of the grip. The cg ended 3 1/2" from PAP. Then I brought the surface to 1000/2000 abralon, lightly shining it with Black Magic. When I roll this ball, the pin looks back at me and the ball rotates around it. First night on THS: after 5 practice shots game one: 290. Series 759. Duh. Winner.

Pin above bridge 5.5" from PAP
This ball is a real sleeper that is a must for dry lanes.
It doesn't have the same backend as the green/black avalanche, but clears the fronts a little cleaner and allows me to keep my angles tight.  A very manageable ball for more parallel angles and "fade" shots on dry, tough conditions.  Honestly this is not the ball I pull out to smash a wall, but it is something that allows me to make the most of a little hold and grind out deuces on real rough lanes.  Definitely a good pick for low volume sport patterns!
