Title: as a "victim" of sandbagging, what's your story?
Post by: xrayjay on January 18, 2017, 12:51:21 PM
I bowled at Steve Cooks Fireside lanes one year for Another Baggers Tourney, or ABT and was in the Semi finals. Before throwing my first shot, I was down 40 some pins!

I had a good look earlier on the shark pattern (one of my favorite PBA patterns) and shot a scratch score in the 220's. My opponent, he shot 210 plus 40. But, seeing his approach, posting at the line, and switching balls to getting into a roll sooner doesn't match a person who is 175-180 bowler.

Then he tried to tell me, "nice game"????  lol I had to tell him, with the money he will win, I'll wait for him to be done and to have some side action scratch. He refused.

A few years back, a buddy of mine and his partner got jumped for the doubles lead at the Hoinke during the last weekend. When I did some research on the guys who took the lead, I found that one of them had quite a few honor scores and several averages of 220+, including one over 230, for under 21 games, yet any recorded average of 21 games or more was topped out at around 180. lol  I love it when people don't even try to hide it!

A team had the top average bowler and a few other good bowlers. Near the end of the season they were way out in front. Not fully locked into first place but no one was realistically going to catch them.  The top average guy gets in every bracket every week.  Some of the other guys are heavy bracket players also.

It is position round and the second and third place teams are close in points. 2nd place team are buddies with the first place team. First place team doesn't get in any brackets and proceeds to lose all points. Of course I was on the third place team.

After league ends, a number of guys pot bowl. One of the guys on the first team, who couldn't seem to bust a grape during league, wins the first pot.

Jaybird, there's a club that is a solution to those problems.  You aren't going to be the big fish there though.

I refuse to bowl handicap-based tournaments - unless they are for charity or to help out a friend.

Statistically speaking, more often than not there will be a lower-average bowler who has a career-best day during a handicap tournament, whether they are a sandbagger or not. It kind of sucks for us "tweeners" who are stuck a notch below being a legitimate scratch bowler - we're kind of in limbo when it comes to tournaments.

Sounds like another Sacramento local dirt bag who never averaged over 205, but somehow had over a dozen 800 series and 20 plus 300s.  What made this guy great was that he would then brag about all the tournaments he won and how much money he won the week before.  He would do this in line, while signing up for another tournament.  This guy is nothing more than a common thief to me.  Stealing pins to steal money from other people.

He even did the whole establishing an average left handed and then "accidentally" using that average in the tournament, but bowling right handed.

He finally got re-rated and has a USBC national re-rate of 220. Once he got caught and fixed, he rounded up a few new bowling disciples and had them pull the same scams that he used to do.

This may not qualify.

Back years ago, I joined an online bowling tournament site, (name deleted), where you used your league scores to participate in.  I kept losing big time and started keeping track of some of the big winners.  Two of them that I really kept note of, I noticed an interesting pattern.  These guys would load up on the brackets and usually clean up, then they would struggle for a couple of weeks, dropping their average.  What was unusual was that on the weeks they struggled, they only got in one or no brackets.  These guys were so good they knew in advance when they would have a bad week.  I figured that I could not compete against bowlers who could predict their future, so I quit participating.

:)

Yea, and his name is Jesse. Nothing but a punk.

He was a good customer though.  bought a lot of balls.  I always thought he was full of it, instead he was just a cheater.

Yea, he always has the latest ball. TNBA pretty much banned him from their tournaments. The Mex American tournaments still allow him to pull his BS as far as I know.

The sad thing is the guy is a decent bowler but he wants to scam a few extra dollars off the true lower average bowlers. This is the kind of person who is doing the most damage to bowling in my opinion.

I would have a lot of new balls too.... If I was stealing money from other bowlers to pay for them.

Only Handicap Tournament I bowl is State Tournament. League is are just leagues I could care less. Because I know if it came down to scratch or in a different Bowling alley or on different pattern the story would be different.

There's a Filipino guy who book was 160 at a Mexican american tournament and he went into scratch brackets and handicap all in and took it all even from Jesse :). Everyone showed proof to the director that his book shows him averaging 220 before with multiple 800s 300s.  You can also find this guy at norcal abts with a 195 average. Whenever I see him at tourneys I make sure I don't do any side pots. I was pretty salty when he knocked me out of a genesis step ladder with his handicap but felt bad for the scratch bowler who bowled a 280~ and lost to his 250 plus handicap on a sport pattern final..

I heard about this dude before......

I don't do the MA tourneys just for this reason.

Also, I'm not sure how true this is, but some have said a certain person who runs leagues and tourneys had stolen league money or something like that about a decade ago.

Yea not sure if true but definetly heard about stuff like that. Also hear lots of complaints of people bowling tourneys and getting paid in a year.

I'm pretty sure shady stuff goes on by more than just one person, they're working together. All the crap I heard was at the AMF house mardi gras, my first league in sacramento back in 2005/6 when I first moved here. Hanging around and listening to those bowlers talk - I was in search of a new league to join at the time, tourneys to compete in, and remembering the names too, made me suspicious of these people. From guys at the shop to the people in the settee they all talk. Those names stood out...I'm just shocked on why these same people are still running the shows taking the doughs....

Ah yes, the Amateur Baggers Tour. Bunch of dorks, usually obese/homely men and women getting together and sandbagging in their dorky shirts, wrinkled pants and jackets. Bunch of flithy slobs.

There is no way to avoid the sandbaggers, period. You guys think bowling is bad, pool is even worse.

I totally agree though with everyone that it is bs, but I also face the facts that it will not ever stop. Im just a league bowler though who rarely bowls a tourney, so.... Im not seeing the crap you all are.
