Which one would be better for spares?

Actually, depending on which urethane you're talking about, they can be pretty much the same.
A Storm MIX, a Motiv Hyper Sniper, or a RotoGrip Bullseye are all urethane, but make good spare balls. They are urethane, and would be slightly more aggressive on the real dry, but virtually identical to plastic on any volume of oil.

It all really comes down to your release. Some can effectively kill the most reactive of equipment even for the corner pins...

I don't even notice my Mix hooking any more on the dry than my White Dot did. If anything I feel like it pushes down the lane easier, although that's probably the differences in the finish they come at.

I've had my storm mix about a year and never touched the surface, I just wipe it down at the end of the night. It will hook when it hits the dry IF I want to and put some revs on it. And I have used that shot for the 1st ball on occasion towards the end of a 3 game set when nothing else is working and I need to salvage a good score to win a close game.
I can play up between 5 and 10 with medium speed/lots of hand and hit the pocket consistently. Carry is another story, but at that point I don't care because its better than splits/washouts.
For spare shooting I flatten it out and slow it down a little for accuracy at all right side spares. 9s, 10s, 6/10s, 3/6/10s. Goes straight as an arrow.
Last thing is my storm mix has taken some pretty hard hits off the gutter when going for a 7-10 split. I haven't put a scratch on it. Storm mix is tuff as nails. Also my thumb and finger inserts are a little looser than my regular stuff so it comes off my hand easier when throwing a flat shot.

I have gone back and forth on spare balls over the years. I threw plastic for several years, but switched to a urethane Natural about 4 years ago. I felt my spare shooting improved a bit because the urethane would not jump off the end of the oil on left side pins or squirt on right side pins like plastic occasionally did. However I went back to plastic this season when it seemed like my single pin shooting had dropped off a bit, particularly on 10 pins. I am capable of throwing very straight, which makes either ball as effective. However I prefer to just flatten my release and that was causing me to hook a bit on 10 pins with urethane.

The more I use my Booyah at my spares, the more I like it. I flatten out my hand at all, and it's a dart, but I can get right with it and it hits awesome. It's drilled pretty strong 50*4.5*35 and a small hole on the pap. Much better than the Hype urethane was.
