Title: 5 ball aresonal, 1 layout or 2?
Post by: TeeP Nade on December 03, 2017, 11:12:12 AM
When reevaluating your 5 ball arsenal, do you like have one layout or 2? or different layout on each, or depends on the ball/ball type. Looking for tournament play mostly, as house shot you can take any piece and strike.

Going to depend on your style.  For me with my low revs and higher speed it would be 65x4"x30 with motion hole for all but my spare ball and my weak pearl which I have with a weaker pin up drilling.  Then again not at the level where I need to fine tune my ball motion as much as some others on here really either.  My tuning is more the ball itself and surface.  That said I do have a mix of pin up and pin down of various types from before I figured out what layout(s) works for me and haven't decided if going to redrill any but the few I have had redrilled.

Surface management is #1, ball differences is #2, layout is #3 for tournament play in my mind.

I like to take 6 + spare ball for bigger tournaments, 3 of my balls have similar layouts about 4 1/4" pin to pap. But those 3 balls are all different as one is for heavy oil, one more benchmark, and one more for breakdown. I fill in around those 3 with different shapes

I go either pin up, 5 inches from pap, or pin down, 5 inches from pap.

I usually do strong assyms 60*5*40, weaker assyms 50*5*65. On symmetricals, it matters what motion the ball is supposed to have. For example, my X (smooth symmetrical) is pin down, while my Drift (angular symmetrical) is pin up. Allows me to use the ball for what it is. I need to change the surface on the Drift because I hate 1500 polished.

Never thought about doing that! Don't really throw many aysyms as they don't match well to me

I usually do one layout for all of my equipment. With all of the different cores & coverstocks out there today, having just one layout plus an assortment of Abralon pads
is what works best for me.
