Title: The 9's
Post by: Impending Doom on December 15, 2017, 05:18:05 PM
Tell me how everyone is liking theirs. I may be ready to pull the trigger on a pair. Right now I'm using a pair of 6 LZs and I want something a bit more comfy.

Being a 900G fanatic, you don't have a pair of Tour Ultras? My man...

I tried a pair, and I couldn't get used to the seam between the outer sole and the inner soul. Unless they changed that, it just felt weird.

If you are looking for comfort look elsewhere. For the price they should make a shoe that is functional and comfortable.

The price of the SST9 and related soles turned me off. I got the SST8 Pro and couldn't be happier.

Had the TPU-X and while they were softer I like the durability and toe box of Dexter shoes better.

They don't make the TPU-X in my size. I have small feet.

Well, off to reevaluate the 3G's!

I went from 6's to the Nine, they feel a little narrower but are much more comfortable. I like them.

I have the 9s and the HPX (TPU-X equivalent). I alternate between them, and like them both, but I consider The 9 to be my primary shoe.

The 9 isn’t built for pure comfort like the HPX, but they’re comfortable enough. The leather upped are soft, and you can always use your own insole, which I do with all my shoes.

The 9 is the best overall shoe I’ve owned, and I’ve be been through the entire SST line. They’re not the best at any one thing, but it’s hard to beat the overall package. Now, if the replacement soles weren’t so expensive.....

Somebody that I bowl with tells me that the 9’s are ordinary and just as normal  as any other shoe; Glad I stayed with my reliable sst8’s.

I think it’s a reach to call the 9s “ordinary”. They’re more refined than the SST8s, and they have an interchangeable sole system rivaled by none.

Like with any shoe, it comes down to feel. They feel comfortable or thy won’t. In the end, little else matters.

TPU-X I've heard are the most comfortable out there, but durability is 0, I warrantied about half the pairs I sold within 6 months.

SST 8's are like strapping a 2x4 to your foot, great slide stability and balance, but the most uncomfortable bowling shoes I've ever worn.

9s are expensive, but much more comfortable than the 8s, more durable, better designed, and with the toe cap being on the slide pad instead of the shoe, if it wears down, you just replace the pad.  However, I wear toe caps down pretty hard, I got a Power Step for my 8s because the pad wouldn't stick on that shoe anymore, but on the 9s, I've had them since they've been out and have had the same non slide foot pad on there since I got them.

If you don't like the Tour Ultras, the 9s in my mind are the only other choice.  Some people have had issues with durability, but I've had mine since they came out and you can barely tell they've been worn.  I'm very easy on stuff though, things usually don't wear out for me, so I may not be the best example.  However, I'd recommend anything over the 8s, I'd rather wear rental shoes.

My SST9's look beat up, badly, part of that is the shoes being white, but the toe cap area on my non slide foot is worn pretty substantially and it didn't take long. However, the issues seem cosmetic and they wore to a point and it hasn't seemed to get any worse. I agree on the 9's being so much better comfort wise than the 8s.

I will likely go back to Tour Ultra's when my pair of 9s wear out, but i'm on season two and they are still in better shape than my couple of pairs of 8s I tried to get multiple seasons out of.

YMMV

Like, that’s my assessment as well with those shoes, I’ve tried the tpu x’s,  Tour ultra’s, sst tanks, and while I like them all, I haven’t been able to find a balance of comfort, and durability.

If it weren’t for the high price, I would been purchased the 9’s no question.

After wearing 3Gs for several years, I recently switched back to Dexter and THE 9s. The 3Gs were comfy, but over time the shoes broke down beyond repair, especially with the grip sole cracking in several places. I got THE 9 HT's and after dialing them in, they're great. I hate that you no longer get extra soles and heels included with purchase. The included H5 has way too much sudden brake for my slide, so I bought an H7 and now I'm good. I'm considering getting the H6 to see if I can dial in my slide/brake balance even more, but overall I'm very happy with THE 9s. My main reason for getting these is the built in toe cap protection and sole flex. Since those two issues are why I kept having to replace my older shoes, THE 9s may be the last pair I'll ever have to buy.

I currently use the Dexter Pro AM II's. If switched to like THE 9's..anyone know what pads are equivalent to the standard ones on the Pro AM II's?

I've been reluctant to make the move to the more expensive options because I don't slide. But, I'm thinking of experimenting.

My Tour Ultras were more comfortable, but I have higher scores with the SST8s.
