Title: CTD products
Post by: J_w73 on February 12, 2018, 07:35:10 PM
Any one use any of the newer CTD products?  I see since that purple stuff, there is so fresh and so clean tackifier, and that wow factor more hook, and that wow factor less hook.

They're just cleaners.

Avoid it like the plague.  Just a scam, and so poorly executed I'm not sure how people even consider the stuff.

I was in Vegas as the same time as the true amateur tournament or whatever I was called. Went up to the lanes and saw him there with his booth. Keep in mind that no one was bowling at the time as it was between squads, but the place was still full. Not a single person went to his booth the whole time I was there

I honestly couldn't stand the fabulouso scent....I have actually tried it. I did not like what it did to my shot, or the smell! It reeked!

Disappointing. The thought of adding to the tackiness of a ball, maybe even beyond its design, is interesting. Maybe even against USBC rules?

I always felt the cleaners were just a gimmick and never bought any.
However, the CTD sanding pads are no joke.  I bought some, tried them and feel they produce the most accurate finish based on the stated grit of the pad. The new 5000 grit pad gives me the same length and snappy back end reaction of a polished ball without the polish.
They are very easy to clean and last considerably longer than Abralon or Siaair pads.
If bought in bulk the price per pad is also competitive.
Don't know if CTD Bowling can survive just selling sanding pads.  For me I hope the pads are always available as I'm sold on them.

Like acetone or MEK which yes are USBC illegal.   The use of chemicals, or other methods, to change the hardness of the surface of the ball after it is manufactured is prohibited.  Cleaners may be used provided they are totally removed from the ball before delivery.  No foreign material may be placed on the outer surface of the ball.  The USBC testing protocol verifies that the chemical doesn't change the hardness of the bowling ball even after being put on one spot for an hour soaking and that no residue is left over from the cleaner (wow looks like they even use a spectrometer for their testing).  Now the USBC is not even going to allow cleaners during competition without tournament director approval.   If the products are approved more than likely fancy overpriced cleaners ala the Monster gold digital hdmi cable business model.  If not approved then its cheating.

(edit:  I would be very weary of any product that claims to change the coverstock
period and also without changing the hardness or leaving residue (only way to get approval).  Even if does what it says (not likely) who knows what the effect on the coverstock will be long term.  Snake oil.)

You can buy the same CTD pads from abralon.net for cheaper money. They are not a CTD exclusive as he likes to claim. I bought mine from abralon.net and I like them.

For whatever it’s worth...they have 1500, 3000, and 5000 dual. I don’t see that on the site.

My Code X was pretty dead. I used Abralon pads to bring it down to 500g, then doused it with a heavy lather of Ebonite clean and dull, letting it sit for 90 seconds on each side. After wiping it off, I used some ball cleaner, then wet sand with 2000g and eventually up to about 3500.  Wow! It feels like a new ball.

So it sounds like the cleaners and polishes are nothing special but the sanding pads are legit?  Anyone else have experiences with the sanding pads (he said trying not to hi-jack someone else's thread)?

I think the big thing is the products themselves aren't anything special, and Ron's marketing is loud, and  is doing a good job of garnering attention as we are all in here talking about it.

I'm not a buyer of the CtD products, but I did get my hands on some of the True Cut pads. I haven't used them enough to wear them out, but they seem nice so far. The P500D is acts like a very worn 4000 abralon pad, but with a more consistent finish, which is something I do like and would recommend others to use in place of polish (polish is very fickle in nature, and hard to replicate).

Ron may be polarizing it seems, but he is making an effort to help others get better and i'll always respect that. The pay to be on staff thing is funny to me, but it's obviously working as i've been to quite a few tournaments and seen his cleaner and CtD shirts around.

Haven't used the cleaners and not a fan of hook increasing or decreasing tonics but the TruCut pads are excellent. I prefer to use them by hand and they deliver excellent results.

I started using TruCut pads a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love them.  So much better than Abalon or SiaAir pads.
However, if you purchase any be sure to take a permanent marker and go over the factory grit indicated.  Why, after I washed the pad the factory ink faded to where I cannot read the original grit.  Hard to tell a 1000 grit from the 2000 grit when there is no marking.

Maybe try at abralon.net for CTD pads.  If I remember right, I think they are cheaper but they don't carry all of the grits.

I just picked up a 5000g last week... can't remember if it was Ebay or Amazon....

You're talking about JOST UseIt pads. It was from Abralon.net but they don't sell them as JOST UseIt anymore, they sell them as CTD TruCut. Looks like CTD bought the branding rights or something. I believe that the people making the JOST pads are the people making the TruCut for CTD. There is more variety in the TruCut range which makes me think maybe CTD did some R&D for JOST and they now handle the branding. Some of the TruCut pads I have have the old UseIt branding on them.
