Title: Venom Shock Love Still Strong?
Post by: 2handedrook12 on February 28, 2018, 01:10:02 AM
Anyone still loving their Venom Shock? Can be you personally or someone in your league. A lot of balls in my arsenal are starting to really go in spite of cleaning and touching up the surface frequently. Was really close to just drilling another IQ Tour, but I really want to give this ball it's fair chance at becoming a favorite. Never used one of my normal layouts on one. Obviously they are still selling well since it's been out for nearly 4 years now.

If there was a bowling ball HOF the Venom Shock would be sitting right along side the IQ Tour.
If I was limited to only one ball for a THS the Venom Shock would be my personal choice.  It's always in my bag and when I struggle I immediately pull it out and it never fails to perform and get me out of trouble.
It has been stated by staffers on almost every ball introduced that "You need this ball in your bag".  Well when it comes to the Shock for once that statement is True!

I still use my Venom Shock as the first ball out of my bag at every tournament or different house I go to.  I don't start with it in my league setting only because there isn't enough oil for my style and the Shock on our THS.  I have to use an OG Purple Rhino Pro; that is how dry they are.

If a bowler has no affiliations with a particular company, the Venom Shock would be the first ball I would recommend from Motiv.  I am not on staff, but my wife was at one point so I give them my business based on how they treated her (kudos to Brett).  Can't say I feel the same with other pieces in their lineup, though they are good top to bottom.

Everyone makes great equipment, but for me, the Venom Shock is special and has that little bit extra that makes it great.

Of note, some people feel the Venom Shock is a bit rolly, and it can be.  I have found surface prep to be very important on the Venom Shock.  Don't be afraid of 500 to 1000 for heavier conditions and polish on lighter.  It can excel at both.

Also, like with the IQ Tour, most have had better success with normal-strong drillings.  Having a weak drilling on a weaker core leads to inconsistencies in my experience.

Truthfully If most bowlers had a three ball bag with a Venom Shock, a Hyroad, and a plastic Spare ball in it averages would go up 10 pins nationally

VSP is on the way and an original Shock will not be far behind. I had 2 of them in 15lbs. Not sure why I have waited so long to get one in 14. I may very well end up with multiples of both in the end.

Comment of the week.  Went bowling with the family tonight and took my Venom Shock and was happy to see it was turning the corner just fine for me.  Helps I have finally gotten consistent with a shortened approach so now I don't send balls down range at warp speed.  Noticed the same thing recently with my Hy-Road as well which I have always brought to league but not always been able to use.  The only thing I would change is my Ogre Urethane for a plastic spare ball but same difference mostly but otherwise think I am going to try and use my Venom Shock for league.

Seems fair. I was shooting to start a generic (but effective) house arsenal starting with another Hy-Road, but the guy gave me a 16 lb Hy-Road in a deal instead of the 15 he said it was. PSO punched it before telling me that. It still rolls good, but only with straighter angles. Looks terrible going left as it wants to rev up and flare so fast.

Have the opposite problem with my 16lb Hy-Road pearl.  It wants to go straight on the fresh.  It really does need some burn to turn but I probably have half the revs (if that) you do.
