Title: All spare game
Post by: bcw1969 on May 10, 2018, 09:20:16 PM
Tonight a guy on the team we were bowling had an all spare game. I have never done that or even seen it done. It is too bad that that feat is no longer recognized by the usbc like it used to be. Anyone ever seen that done or actually did it?

I've been there.  Personaly I would rather have a game where I cover everything than a game where I have some sloppy strikes and miss some "gimme" spares.

I had an all-spare game last year on a sport shot and it was not pretty.  There's nothing clean or pretty going face, leaving the 2-4-7 repeatedly, and then having to make it.  I will gladly take the sloppy strikes in lieu of having to make spares.

I have had all spare games, but it has been years.  Very rare in todays environmen for two reasons.  First, its almost impossible to leave makeable spares consistently if you arent hitting the pocket.  Second, almost impossible not to have a couple of strikes if you are hitting the pocket most shots.

Most people on these boards arent old enough to remember the playing environment before short oil patterns started in the late 70s.  This was the era that ushered in designer splits and 5 count buckets.   Big 5, 3-6-9-10, 2-8-10.  Carrydown on short patterns made even seemingly easy spares problematic.

Not all spares but I had a really frustrating game a couple months ago. Left four 10 pins (all 6 wrapping around), two 7s (1 high flush, 1 light), and a stone 8.

I don't know when the last time was I shot an all spare game but I had a few sets this past season where I threw a clean 590-599.  Couldn't get a double to save my life, three straight high 190 games.  That is frustrating.

Just gotta love games like that. I’ve had whole nights like that, and it is maddening.

On a sport shot I'd have no complaint with a game like that, I've even had a similar game on Viper. The only issue is that Viper is high scoring so it didn't help much.

Tough when your averaging around 230 on a house shot and do that to lose the game by 9 pins

I'm with you to an extent here, I'm certainly not saying your wrong but I wouldn't beat myself up too badly, even higher scoring sport patterns clean games aren't that bad.  Keeping clean you didn't really give anything away (which is what I absolutely HATE most).

If it's a house shot (which it seems like the pic above was for)............well.........that can be frustrating to say the least.  :P

The moral of the story is: it's all relative.

Actually, the guy that did it only averages in the 130's. He only ended up in the 170's for the game..he had a 4/ 5/  a couple of 6/ and 7/'s ...but still I think it is a neat accomplishment.

I went like 225-179-250ish this season.

The 179 game was an all spare game. Normally, when I start leaving a lot of back-row pins like that, I change balls, but this time our team didn't really need me, and I felt really comfortable throwing the ball I was using at the time....so I didn't switch.

Lo and behold, the transition came to me.....which is how I ended up shooting the 250ish score!

It happens!

Did it once back bowling youth.. 9/ for the entire game gets you 191. Not bad when every shot hits the pocket and you leave a single pin that you don't miss.

Just for clarity, all 9/ gets you 190 assuming your fill ball is also a 9 count.

I have quite a few all spare games.Due to the fact I don't get a lot of strikesI'm 82.
