Title: Thunder Line
Post by: AlonzoHarris on July 21, 2018, 02:23:54 PM
I'm very intrigued by what core they drop in this line. I don't need another R2S Pearl ball, but an R2S Hybrid with that lines core characteristics could be a fun piece for this upcoming season. When do we think the next ball will be announced for that line?

I think a new core could be due just to refresh the line a little bit.

Personally I wish they could tweak the Velocity core to raise the rg and lower the diff maybe in the 2.54/.040 range and pair that with R2S Hybrid

That would be interesting! Do you recall what the thunderline ball was with R2S Hybrid before the Rocket? I was on my 7 year break from bowling and came back in 2014 when Rocket was already out.

There was the CrossRoad that I loved. I can't remember if there was another between that and the Rocket. The Reign Supreme was before the CrossRoad

I bet I would have got along well with the Crossroad.

I found it, I forgot about one even though I know someone that bought a case.

It went Reign Supreme, CrossRoad, Reign On, Rocket

Total opposite in my area; EVERYBODY bought the rocket in my area, and I still use mine to this day.  Let’s hope for a different design this time around.... Well overdue.

Aside from the urethane options, the Thunder line has been exclusively R2S as far as covers go UNTIL the Nano came out.  A Hyroad Nano Pearl/Hybrid would be pretty sweet I think . .

Last time they tried to do something new, they gave us the Fight and Street Fight. I really feel the Rocket was under-appreciated.

And the Frantic was Hot line so it doesn't count for this.

The Fights also used R4S which made a huge difference

Yeah let's hope they don't think they need to get too crazy creative here with some crap like the fights again.

I just want my traditional thunder line Hybrid release that I can throw a 4"x30 drilling on and have a complement to my Hy-Road Pearl for my weekly league. Then everything else can be geared for sport and tourneys.

Luke's suggestion intrigues me though.

Always loved the storm thunder line going back to black thunder, blue thunder, and the thunder roads of the late 90’s. Most versatile, and best value for the buck. Would love to see a hyroad nano pearl. Loved the virtual gravity nano pearl before it cracked on me.

I think between the HP3, Master, and Thunder lines. I can build an arsenal to cover almost anything. Just wouldn't have an Asymmetric in there unfortunately.

Here's a thought provoking question.

Does your game need an assym in there?

For me, I've been using a lot of symmetrical stuff (except the Ops, because it's a Break, duh) and just adjusting the surfaces. Only big ball assym in the bag is my On, and that rarely comes into play unless I see volume.

Doesn't really need an asymmetric solid, but I do enjoy asymmetric pearls. I'm venturing into more tournaments that aren't all THS though, so one asymmetric solid/hybrid with surface might become a thing.

I remember when the Rocket came out and I scratched my head on that; a ball with extra punch in the back. In my area nobody really bought the Rocket but many bought the SkyRocket.

I thought it was the Crossdoad, Victory Road, T-Road or Frantic.

Must admit I would buy a Frantic remake if it was available today.

+1 on picking up a Frantic remake (granted Hot line so sorry off-topic).  Finally got a Marvel Pearl remake and love it so far, so all about the Storm classics and remakes (only newer Storm/Roto ball I have is a Hustle Ink,  rest pre 2015).  R2 forever baby.

Blue Thunder was a very under rated ball.   A pearl that was great on dirt,  and controlled the back ends on fresh flatter patterns.

Loved both of these balls. Orange and yellow pin. Tour edition was awesome.

I have an original blue thunder nib from 1998. 1 inch pin. Had three of them back then. All awesome. Been debating selling it or drilling it. I know some of the storm tour guys would kill for this ball. Off weight though. 15lb.13 oz. I went to 15lbs last yr, so I don’t know how the 3/4 extra lb. would effect me.

Leagues starting very soon, so I must say I'm surprised we haven't heard what's coming yet.
