Title: ENERGY's out of box surface? Why?
Post by: Ric Clint on April 23, 2005, 07:23:44 AM
The Energy is a Pearlized ball. And usually Pearl balls come out of the box with a gloss finish... but the Energy came out kind of dull-ish.

Just wondering "why"?

Was there something about being dull-ish that New Guy or Other Guy felt would better suit the Energy than a higher polished coverstock? Did you guys like the Energy better dull-ish than when you tried it glossy?

I've read of balls being released with two different cover preps.  Offhand, I remember the Storm Deuce being released both shiny and dull.  I think another recent pearl (can't remember the manufacturer) was originally on the dull side.  The people at Dynothane seem kind of particular with their stuff.  If it came dullish, maybe they felt that was the best surface for the ball?

Hmmm...

So maybe the bad Energy's were dullish and the good Energy's are polished?

Now that I think about it, I do remember my good Energy being slightly more polished than my bad Energy was... but I can't remember how much more?

Anybody from Dyno Thane, your advice would be greatly appreciated! What is the correct "out of box" surface? 800 grit polish, 1500 grit polish, etc.?

Yes, but he posted a question about the Energy, so I dug this up for him.
