Description: The Ultra Zone brings the new EnMotion reactive coverstock from the Twisted Fury into the Zone line and combines it with the updated Phantom core to create an ultra-low-RG alternative that complements the reaction of the Twisted Fury. The Ultra Zone uses a Solid / Pearl Hybrid version of the EnMotion coverstock. EnMotion combines the best elements from our PowerKoil, Activator and N’Control coverstock systems to create good length combined with excellent mid-lane recovery and strong back-end hooking action. The Ultra Zone unites EnMotion coverstock with the ultra-low-RG updated Phantom core. Ultra-low-RG’s are known for strong mid-lane recovery moves and their controllable back-end hooking action, Brunswick has created an early revving counterpart to the Twisted Fury that will match-up better on lane patterns that create over/under reaction problems for skid/snap balls.

Well, I guess I will be the first to review this ball.

PAP: 5-1/8 over 1/2 up
Layout: 50 5" 70 (pin under, mb on VAL)
Surface: Box finish
Lane Condition: House Shot

Well, this ball did pretty much what I expected. It picked up the midlane extremely well. Very continuous roll and hits solid. As early as the ball reads, it still gets through the heads extremely well and gives me a variety of different angles to play. Overall, another great ball from Brunswick.

I punched my ultra zone up two days ago, I wanted to get a few games on the ball before posting...

My specs.
PAP: 5 1/2 > 1/8 ^
Speed: 17 mph
Revs: 500 rpm

Ball specs.
15 lbs 3 oz
1.9oz Top weight
3 3/4 inch pin.

Layout.
Pin is 3 1/2 in from my pap.
PSA is 5 1/2 in from my pap.
Pin is slightly higher than fingers.
No weight hole was necessary.

Lane conditions: full synthetic lanes typical house shot.
Ultra cleared the heads nicely, had an excellent mid-lane read and made a very smooth but powerful move at the break point. Pin carry was excellent, I left a few flat tens but that was operator error. What I really like about this ball is I saw absolutely no over under reaction which alot of other guys were having to deal with. Finished out first night 720 then last night 680. All in all its a very predictable ball that will be great on medium to heavier patterns.
I will post more next week after trying it out on some tougher conditions.

5.5" pin to pap
pin over fingers
60 degree primary, 45 degree secondary angle
No hole
OOB finish
House Shot

The very first thing I noticed about this ball was the smooth roll and continuous motion to the pocket. This is what I want in a ball. It didn't matter if I played straight up the out side, or deep inside the ball rolled up to the pocket and didn't hook out. The Enmotion coverstock with this core is a good match up. The flare rings are about 1/4" apart with the 5.5" pin to PAP distance, and I didn't need an extra hole.

If you're a higher rev player, don't be afraid to go with a 5"+ pin placement. It works well with this super low RG core and clean cover.

Layout 3 3/4" from PAP, Below fingers, Mass Bias at 45 degrees, balance hole, factory finish.

After seeing how clean the Twisted's enmotion cover was I decided to drill this one strong.

After putting roughly 15 games on it at two houses I'm quite comfortable with this review/recommendation.  This Ultra Zone appears to be a "can't miss" purchase for anyone wanting a strong midlane and finish without being too sharp off the breakpoint. It handles medium oil easily and when the shot starts breaking down you simply cross more boards!

Cleaner through the heads than the Blast Zone, and a stronger move late. Earlier read than the Twisted Fury.  The Ultra hasn't even thought about rolling out - it just continues on through the pin deck.  Pin carry has been quite good with the exception of "bowler error".

BUY THIS BALL!!

alright.... i haven't left a review in a long time, but this ball is very deserving of one.  here is how it is drilled

-----p
---f f
-------cg--x-hole
-------
----t
-----mb

this ball hooks!!!  extremely controlable, great length, clears the heads, midlane recover is fantastic, then just hits like a truck.  the ball turns over so hard in the back end it leaves nothing left.  out of 20 complete frames with the ball, i left one stone 10 pin, but i am pretty sure it was all me on that one.

Ultra RICO
Pin in Palm, X-Hole on PSA

This is my second experiment with the RICO drill. The first was with the Twisted, and because of the core/cover combo the Twisted still reacted quickly to friction. The RICO in the Ultra gives me the look I want.

THS and to give you an idea how much smoother;

Fury Pearl high pin standing 30 looking 18
Ultra high pin standing 25 looking 13
Ultra Rico standing 20 looking 8

It's very continual through the pins but doesn't jump off of the dry. I could come off the side more and push it right into the dry and it arcs hard back tot he pocket. I am looking forward to using it on a heavier volume and I'll report back.

I am not sure what the problem is but drilled this ball for maximum hook and arc and it does one, but not the other.  This ball just floats, floats and floats and hits like a wet noodle.  This is a typical reaction I have gotten from Brunswick equipment so maybe it is just me but this ball hits like crap.  I will likely sell it now and let someone else deal with it but this ball neither hooks or carries.  On the same shot I threw my Wrath and it not only outhooked it but carried 18-20 shots.  I would say this ball is a 5 out of 10 easily, but just my opinion.  Good luck.

Drilled  4" pin high (60 x 45) dual angle layout.
Cover is out of box, tested with and without balance hole.

First test with the Ultra (no balance hole) was on a 34 foot house shot. The ball was pretty clean through the front part of the lane and strong and continuous off the backends.  The transition off the dry is not overly sharp and fairly easy to read.  Carry was excellent.

I tried the Ultra Zone on a much longer 44 foot pattern.  We had to play the lanes very tight going up the boards,  the ball managed to pick up a decent roll even on the heavier oil pattern.  Carry was ok but not the best on this condition.

We decided to add a flare increasing hole to see how the Ultra would react on the 44 foot pattern.  This change made the ball a bit more aggressive and actually gave me a little more room on the lanes (pin carry was better).
I think with the right surface adjustment, this ball might be OK for oilier shots.

The Ultra fits in between the stronger balls like the Total Inferno and the more angular balls (Pearl Fury).  I would recommend buying this ball if you are looking for a strong rolling ball that is not overly angular on the backends.  If you liked the Vapor Zone or Absoulte inferno give this ball a try, the ultra has the same versatility with a little more roll.

14lbs. Pin below and between fingers, about 60 degrees mb placement. no x-hole.
Definitely clean in the front, strong in the midlane and smooth and off the breakpoint. By no means flippy or erratic. However, this ball does need a fresh amount of oil to keep it on line. Get it to a dry spot too early and it will run away. This one quickly replaced my stacked ebonite big time for my benchmark because of its better ball motion at the end of the lane. This is my first brunswick ball and certainly not my last.

Ultra Zone
Ball Specs
The ball being drilled was a 3” pin out with 3.00 oz top weight.
Drilling: Pin 4 1/2" from PAP and Mb 45 degree angle from PAP. Pin is above ring finger. Weight Hole on my axis. Factory Rough Buff.

Bowler Information:
Track diameter is 10 1/2.
PAP is measured at 5 1/4 over and 3/8" up.
Average ball speed (foul line to head pin) is 16 mph.
Axis rotation is typically 90 degrees
Initial rev rate is typically 300 rpm, "Tweener"
Lane Condition and Pattern:
Bowlero Lanes, HPL 9000 Panel. Oil Pattern: Fairly Flat condition from edge board to edge board, semi clean backends.

Review:
Same cover as the Twisted Fury, same core as the Blast Zone. A ball that gets through the heads clean and has a strong but smooth break point. Reads the lane well for medium to dry to medium to oil lanes. Big core gives this ball a hard hitting action, as long as the outsides are dry and the back ends are clean the ball hits as hard as anything I have thrown. Crankers will like this ball for oil strokers will like it more for drier conditions. Thanks for reading my review.

Well I drilled this ball about a month ago, and oh my. What a great match-up for me. The lay-out used was a 40* by 4in by 70* with the PSA drilled out with an x-hole. My first set I used it I had 813 (267,259,287) in my Saturday youth league. The ball gets down-lane pretty well, good midlane, and is pretty forward at the breakpoint. For me, it seems like my best chances of scoring is to get the ball into a nice roll at the pocket. And this ball does exactly that. I used it to win the Ohio High School Singles Championship, had 1487 for 6 games that day. Then I used it this past Saturday for the Pepsi State and had 1480, while using my Twisted Fury the last 2 games. Great ball for the fresh. Ball is kept at the out of box surface.

This is a short review.  I wanted to make this ball stronger then my twisted but not as strong as my blast zone when its at 1000 drilled pin down.  I drilled this ball pin up and just a shade right of the ring finger.  Cg is in the palm just right of center.  The mb is to the right of the thumb about an inch.  The lane was a litte dry on the outside but had plenty left in the middle.  I started a 4th arrow out to about 8 and the ball was smooth of the spot and would come up light.  I would roll my twisted in the same spot and it would go flush I was confused to say the least.  So I got real deep and played 5th arrow out to 10, this is where the ultra was a star.  It rolled up in the mid-lane where the twisted would just keep going and crushed the whole.  At the break point it would just rolled hard and killed the pocket.   So far for three games of bowling the ball is really good but i want to see it on so real oil.

16# ball drilled pin 5-1/2" under fingers with PSA at 45' and flare increasing hole.

Surface is 2000 abralon.

The ball is very rolly and smooth off the friction.  If you want a more controllable reaction, then this ball will work for you.  If you like to get deep and watch the ball go 50 ft, then look elsewhere.

I am one of a few who did not like this ball. I drilled it up stacked was looking for  a hook monster and what I got was a different reaction all most all the time.Big hook for three frames Make you stand back and say wowwowwow and the next three flat as can be.Then your saying !!!!!. I bought 3, one for me and for each of my sons. The only one that is still bowling with theirs a year later is the one with the huge rev rate. All so they seem to have a short life as most bowlers who bowled with them in my league said theirs died out quickly. Having said that my son loves his and its his go to ball in  tough conditions. A lot of my league mates said it was the best ball they had untill it died out.I do believe the coverstock does not match up well with my style.I sold mine to a very good friends son. The only thing he did was replace the thumb slug and he gets very good reaction out of it. His rev rate is a good bit more then mine but style and speed is spot on.I don't know the difference other then the rev rate.I do think if you have a big rev rate this ball will work great, but if you have med to low rev rate, beware.

i stopped bowling about 4years ago and i bought this ball a year ago to start again,10games after i bought it i stopped bowling again (work sch interfered)  ... I started again recently (trying to get on a league now), my average is around 180-185. this ball is a decent hooker not the best not the worst it carry's nice on oil/med oil. i bought it orig to retire my Vertigo i have but i cant its not better . The vertigo > ultra zone IMO. i had both drilled to hook aggressively but the ultra tends to hit a soft pocket not a hard rocket like i want. i would recommend someone who is a tweener or a stroker though its good. cranker theirs better .

drilled this with the pin below and between my fingers and the mb 3in to the right of my thumb.  took the surface down to 800.

this ball is instant revs in a box.  it revs up so easily and reads the lanes early and smoothly.  it gives me a nice STRONG arc throughout the entire lane, which is nice when the lanes have a little more oil.  it allows me to open the lane up a little and create some area to throw to later in the night.

BW Ultra Zone - 15 lbs

Pin to CG - 3"

Layout Pin Down under ring finger, MB out 60 degrees

Ball Reaction:  Early Roll and smooth backend

Comments:

I bought this ball in response to some struggles that I had at a couple of PBA regionals that I bowled in last summer.   What I ended up with is a ball that is extremely lane condition specific.   This ball with this layout plays best when there is some volume in the front part of the lane with a very well defined friction spot to throw to.  Straighter angles are definitely greater for this ball.  I tried it at several different surface finishes, but it's best at 1000 abralon w/ polish.  More surface made it read way too early and less surface seemed to make it very sensitive to carry down.   Bottom line is that although it can be very effective when the right lane condition shows up, I don't see that condition very often.  In hindsight, probably made a bad layout choice, I think it would've worked better if I'd used the 45 degree MB position instead of 60.  I drilled a smooth rolling ball to roll smooth, which in this case, was a mistake.  I have other bowling balls that can cover this spot and be used further left, so I'm going to sell this one back to the pro shop for store credit.  Bad matchup for me.

I needed a ball for when my benchmarks read too early and this thing fits that roll nicely.
Got this ball hoping its advertised smoothness will help my control for that last game or the Cheetah. And of course the $$$. Got mine new and on the lanes for under 100 bucks. This is my 1st Brunswick ball. Have a bunch from almost every Manufacture but just getting around to trying The Bruns.
Lefty stroker ball speed 15 MPH weight 14. Pin over the bridge CG and MB kicked out slightly to the strong side.
Took me a few games to get the cover set up for playing dry but worth the effort. The ball revs up on the ball rack but still has plenty left for the pins. Not good in the oil at all but not what mine is set up for.
Easy to read, above average hitting power and maybe most important to me easy length, just skates past the dry fronts reads the mid just enough and makes a strong but controllable move to the pocket. I fell if you can match the cover up it will roll out nicely retaining power for the pins but to much shine it will spin right past your break point and too much cover and it will burn up at 44 feet.
I have other stuff that if you don't want to take your whole arsenal out can do some dry and some oily conditions and not be in too bad a state but this ball is not that flexible. Set it up for the condition you know you will be shooting it on and be happy with that.
I will give this guy an 9. Love the smooth/strong move and hitting power.

Well fist off was looking for a ball to replace my Red Zone something with decent lenght and a strong continuos roll. Was really sceptical as soon as I got the ball and seeing the white made in mexico lable on it. The ball came in with a 3-4 inch pin so I driled it up pin above bridge and mb kicked about an inch and a half right of my thunb. This ball kinda dumb founded me the first 3 games it skidded way to long and took off just really inconsistant roll. So I pretty much gave up on it till I went ahead and ran out of options last week at league and ended up having gave up on everything else workin I pulled out the ultra zone and it rolled perfectly shot in the 220s after 3 opening with splits. Found the best line to be inside swinging from inside center arrow out to just inside second arrow and couldnt miss. Well Then next day at league I wanted to make sure it wasnt a fluke so I pulled it out and found that same line and scored very well again. I found this ball needed a few games on it so that it would start picking up a roll. I found that the more i threw it the stronger this ball is getting. Over all I give this ball a 10 of 10 possible this ball is one you really can attack the lanes with a straighter line and shows forgiveness. Well thanks for reading hope this review makes sence and halps someone out.

Very disappointed with this ball, especially with all the hype on it. I have tried polishing it, matte finish, and compound finish. There are numerous other balls better than this one. This ball is mediocre at best.

I was skeptical of this ball. I tried ricco in a blast zone and had no carry. But a friend gave me this ball so I drilled it 5X3 (pin in ring finger). First I polished it and after three frames watched it go straight on the USBC pattern. I then went 1000/rough buff. Very happy with ball, at the stadium, I was able to hit the pocket all nine games. This ball has a lot of control on the back end. On a broke down shot, I have been able to throw  "up the back" and walk it in from the 5 board. On the scorpion, I played 15 to 10. It is a very versitable ball but it is cover prep sensitive. If you can find one cheap, it fills a good place in the arsenal.
