Help with my arsenal
« on: November 25, 2006, 06:33:21 AM »
I have 3 Lanemasters/Legends balls the Terminator drilled 4 X 4 with pin just below the ring finger, the BP drilled 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 with the pin just above & to the right of the ring finger & the Buzz the same as the Terminator. All of the balls are in box condition. My ball speed is around 17 to 18 mph with my rev rate about 350. My question / problem is that on medium conditions I get almost the same amount of hook out of the Terminator & BP although the break point is slightly different. The angle to the pocket is a little different between the 2 balls also. My problem is that as the lanes break down both balls come into the pocket so hard that I leave one of the back row pins almost all of the time. If I switch to the Buzz it doesn't have enough pop on the back for this condition. Any suggestion as to surface prep or a new ball would be greatly appreciated.

Although the Terminator is, by the book, stronger than the Black Pearl (it is earlier, being a solid, and handles more oil), one factor that must be considered when you see what appears to be an apparently contrary situaton, is that house blends have the potential to hide or mask differences between balls.

There are several reasonable explanations for what you may be seeing, even ignoring the "house shot" factor.

But the fact remains that there are several balls from Lanemasters/Legends that can fit in between your two strong ones and the Buzz.

The World Class Reactive is a highly polished solid that can be very flippy ( aminor surface tweak or a control drill can help that).
The Masterpiece is a strong pearl that will also fit in between.
The Big-R-Bang is also a highly polished solid but its core makes it very flippy, possibly the flippiest ball Lanemasters makes.

Due to your higher ball speed, I'd be inclined to think the WCR would be your safest bet, IF you want to stay with LM/L.

Jim,
Charlest makes valid points and I concur with him on them; if you're looking at keeping that three ball lineup and getting some separation, I'd consider making coverstock adjustments to either the Terminator and the BP or to both. Although I would STRONGLY recommend getting Galen Gentry's opinion on the adjustment(s), what you could try, since both are polished balls, is to change the grit underneath that polished surface; both are 800 gray scotchbrite grit and polished (just remember that the "T" is a dual-load particle with polish and the "BP" is a light-load particle pearl). That being said, if you prefer the reaction of one over the other, adjust one's underlying grit up to 1000  or 2000 abralon and then reapply a good coat of their Factory Finish polish ... this should get the ball to "push" down the lane a bit more and may give you a more distinct separation of their comparative lane reaction and reaction "shapes".
Again, these are just my thoughts and opinions; the real "L/LM" guru for these balls is Galen ... his contact info is:

Please keep "us" posted and informed on what you do and what you decide and how things work out for you. Good luck !!!
