Specs: 15.04lbs, 4 pin, 2.5 top
Pin to PAP: 5-1/2
CG to PAP: 4-1/2
Weight Hole: None

Lane Pattern:Kegel High Street
Length: 44ft
Lane Surface: Pro Anvil

I got to test out my Big Hurt when I bowled a team tourney with a group of LordField staff members. The shot was on a long Kegel Recreational shot that had a concentrated amount of oil in the center part of the lane from 8 to 8. Anything outside 8 hooked immediately. I originally tried the Korrupt first because I wanted a ball to rev up early and be smooth off the dry. What I actually got was either flat 10 or 4 pin. I was inbetween for most of the game. When the 10th frame came, I pulled out my Big Hurt am moved inside. I was able to play 12 or 13 at the arrows and hit 8 at the break point where the range finder was. The Big Hirt was cleaner up front, strong in the mids and had a continuous angular arc on the backend. I was able to play that line the remaining two games. The BH is a great complement to the Korrupt. The only down side I think with this ball is when the heads start to burn. I believe this will be one of the most versatile lord field ball around.

Thanks Tony for adding another great ball to the line up.

COMMENTS

I do not normally post a review on a ball this soon after I drill one up but this will be an exception. After my first few shoots, I knew this ball was going to be something special. I say this because I'm a diehard Storm fan and the "BIG HURT" has put my "IQ PEARL" in the bag.
The "BIG HURT" is very smooth through the heads and mid lane and makes a strong continuous move at the break point. I had no problems playing different angles to the pocket (Intentionally or unintentionally). This makes the ball very user friendly and responsive to release changes.

Likes - Easy to throw, not restricted specific to one lane condition or the way I release it.

Dislikes - Too soon to tell.

Lord Field has a great ball here. It will be for most anyone and can be used on most types of lane conditions.

LANE CONDITION

Length:41-43ft

Volume:high

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):PBA Scorpion and PBA Shark

Drill Layout:
49x4 1/4x61 3 oz top weight

Rev Rate is Medium high
Ball speed is 17.5

What I was looking for was what the ball was designed for. More angularity. It definitely gives that. Especially when the Scorpion and and the Shark were fresh. I was able to use it more on the Scorpion than the Shark because of the pattern themselves. The scorpion is a little higher volume pattern that doesn't burn up mid lane like the Shark. I was able to play right up 10 (Left Handed) with it. I could slowly migrate in with it not letting the ball get out past 10 at any point. With the Shark I could go up 12 starting out but as the lanes transition, the surface was too much for the Shark as the characteristics of the pattern is light oil in the midlane.  The ball (as with other LF balls) continue through the pin deck very well. This ball is best used on patterns with good head oil. I have not tried this ball on THS. I suspect that it will be a little strong for a house shot without a surface change here in Ky.

Likes: Angular

Dislikes:It can burn out when the heads are dry

COMMENTS

Big Hurt is a great oil piece. I used it for Nationals team event in Reno and it chewed up the pattern. Basically able to play the same area with lots of back end movement for all 3 sets. Just a great piece and compliments the rest of the LF line up nicely. It gets a little more length than the Korrupt making it a lethal 1-2 punch. The Big Hurt is a bit more angular as the Korrupt is earlier and rollier. A bit strong as a bench mark or a THS ball as it does need oil. Able to play it from multiple lines and angles making it a versatile piece. It also is very continuous through the deck and retians its energy even when the heads start to go away.

Lord Field has a great release here.

Likes - Great color combination! Ball is very versatile and handles surface adjustments with ease. Really continuous through the deck as well.

Dislikes - nothing

Out of box finish on ball

Length: 41

Volume:  Light

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):  THS

Ball is drilled pin above ring finger with cg kicked out slightly.  House shot is oily inside with lighter volume outside.

Ball Speed - 16.5 with medium revs.  League average 233;  Multiple 300's and 800's.

Area:  Started from 17 at the arrows to 12 at the breakpoint.  Ball seems to roll early but doesn't die out unless you move too deep.

Likes:  On a fresh shot this ball absolutely hits harder then anything else in my bag.  This is my first Lord Field Bowling ball.  This ball seems to roll best with a down and in shot or baby swing (no more than 5 boards).  Threw 16 out of 17 then the ball started going high.

Dislikes:  As the ball starts to over hook when I move deeper and really try to open the lanes the ball doesn't turn the corner.

General review:  If all of Lord Field's stuff hits this hard I will continue to buy their equipment.  This ball isn't very versatile but I haven't adjusted the coverstock yet either so that may open the ball up to moving deeper and recovering.

Hooks very similar to my Prodigy and is stronger and earlier then the Nano pearl.  Excellent choice for someone with low revs and playing down and in or someone with a high speed.  For me this ball will be a 1st game and then back in the bag and pull the Prodigy out and get deep.

If bowlers out there would like to see a video let me know and I will make one to give you an idea of what the reaction looks like.  I know these balls are not sold in my area so I was very skeptical about purchasing one.  I will say I do not regret getting this ball and look forward to purchasing another that is better suited for the transition.

I am not on staff and this is as unbiased a review as your going to get.  A pro shop in the area told me to give them a try and I really didn't have anything to lose.

In the bag:
Storm Prodigy
Nano Pearl
Motiv Thrash Frenzy
Brandon H.

I have a dual angle layout on this ball.

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

Likes: Very versatile for me, angular backend, pushes through the pins

Dislikes: None yet.

So this ball is more angular than some other releases for Lord Field which is good for me. I was starting with the Korrupt as my first ball but have moved to this when my Korrupt checks too early. I can play a few different lines with this ball and get great reactions from them. This is becoming one of my favs because I can use it on a lot of conditions. I won a 9 game King of the Hill with just this and my spare ball. Of course anyone can do that as long as the lanes are good to you but this ball is great on the lanes.

- About me:
Right handed. 16lb. Power tweener. About 17mph. Higher rev rate. PAP: 5.25” level. Exacticated thumb (slug) and oval grips.

- Layout/Finish:
This particular ball weighed 16lb 2oz, has 3.6” pin and 3.0oz of top weight. The pin to the right of the ring finger with the CG kicked out slightly (we didnt lay it out dual-angle, but eye-balling it, it’s about 40x4.25x45). It was a little over 1oz of positive after drilling, so we put on the PAP. It now has about a 1/2 ounce. Box finish.

- On the lane:
This Big Hurt has been at its best for me on oily to medium conditions. It may not be the “hookingest” ball on the market, but it rolls better and hits better than most of the equipment that hooks more, and it’s definitely one of the better balls on the market… strong enough but controllable enough to compete on wetter/longer patterns.

This ball is smooth and continuous off break point for me, but much more controllable than most of the balls that might hook a little more. It goes a lot longer than it seems like it should, considering it’s a stronger particle. The mid-lane read is good; you can get a good feel for the conditions by watching it roll. So far it’s given me fair warning when it’s time to move (as opposed to the “Strike, Strike, Strike, Big 4” that you see sometimes with strong equipment). It isn’t super strong off the spot, but the move is still decisive and continuous. It hooks and then gets into a strong roll with minimal deflection thru the pins.

On medium to medium-heavy, it rolls and carries great from farther outside (outside of 10), and when it dries out I can move in with this ball so long as the lanes don’t dry up too much. This ball doesn’t like to burn up or roll out. It wants to continue hooking once it catches the dry.

This Big Hurt has also been what I call “user-friendly” when it comes to the release. This ball doesn’t roll drastically different if you tweak your release at the bottom. What you get is a ball that is pretty forgiving when your release isn’t perfect.

So far the box finish has been great on medium to oily conditions and on longer patterns. If I didn’t have other equipment to go to on dryer lanes and/or shorter patterns, this ball would probably work pretty good shined and pin-up (keep in mind I’m a higher rev-rate, avg ball speed guy. Adjust your usage accordingly)

- Dislikes:
The only thing I don’t like about this ball is that I have to put it up when they dry up. It still carries from left of 20 with just enough oil, but if I catch the dry early at all, it wants to do what I got it for… which is hook and continue. On a THS that is breaking down, once you move in, you can miss in and it’s usually fine… but that’s a trade off with not being able to miss right if the outside is really dried up (as opposed to some equipment where you can dump it in the burn and its fine, but you can’t miss in at all).

- Summary:
I would definitely recommend this ball to anyone looking for a ball to throw on medium to oily conditions and/or longer patterns. Low-rev-rate/high-ball-speed folks may want to lay it out stronger and leave some surface on it… high-rev-rate/lower ball-speed folks may want to shine it and lay it out weaker.
