April 22, 2012:
Purchased the Exodus Iron and drilled it with one of my favorite Dual Angle layouts (60* X 3-3/4" X 65*, 3" PIN BELOW RF, CG 1-3/4" RT OF CL, 1" BELOW MIDLINE, WH @ P3).  This ball needs some oil, it was about 4-5 boards stronger than the Exodus Solid at the breakpoint and I had to move 6-7 boards left standing 30 with my feet to get the ball to the pocket on a consistent basis.  The Exodus Iron is a lot of ball for this pattern as it was using up a lot of it's energy and was leaving some weak 10's.  Overall, to successfully use this ball on this pattern I would have to apply some polish to kick out the 10's. Swinging the ball that amount is not my “A” game but I was able to have success playing that line.

I will polish up the Exodus Iron and throw some more games with it this week and report out later on. There are no centers in my home area that would warrant using the Exodus Iron in it’s box condition, thus the reason I will polish it to make it more conducive to most of the patterns I see, with the exception of Nationals next month.

Again, I would like to thank Tony Martin at Lord Field Bowling and his Staff for what seems to be a very solid product and for giving me the opportunity to utilize their equipment. I am anxiously awaiting future releases from this fine up-and-coming company here in the United States.

Likes: The "Iron" easily takes to polish, the bal in box condition is a beast on oil, I was able to tame it down to a med/medium heavy ball after a ton of polish.

Dislikes: None

LANE CONDITION

Length: 40

Volume: 26.38

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): Kegel Challenge

COMMENTS

My Stats: 5 5/8 and 3/4 up, Tilt 13*, Rev Rate 400, AR 45 Speed Matched.

 I drilled the Exodus Iron up 60 x 5 x 30 with a P3 hole.

first time throwing this ball was on the Kegel Challenge Series (Broadway) pattern. I was playing on HPL lanes that have no backend. I was only able to throw it for one game as it was quite hot in the bowling alley and we were losing the head quite quickly, but what a game it was 266 with 11 strikes. I was stand 20 and going out to 6 at the break point and it was destroying the pins.

Second time throwing this ball was on the WTBA Athens Pattern and this ball was strong and gave me more room then anything else I had in my bag. Once again playing on HPL lanes with no backends. I was standing 22 throwing 15-8 and blowing racks. Being a sport shot the scores weren't ridiculous but I did manage an 836 for 4 games.

If you are looking for a strong ball to handle oil this is your ball. I am liking what I see from Lord Field and I can't wait for the next release.

I drilled my Exodus Iron 55 X 4.5 X 35, with no extra hole. I originally left the ball in Box Condition.
My initial thought on the Iron when I first drilled it was it was extremely smooth and predictable, it was clean through the heads while still maintaining plenty of hitting power. It was not quite as angular as I had expected and labored when faced with too much oil. It read the track beautifully but didn't have enough energy to turn the corner at or inside of the the third arrow. As I continued to use this ball, however I saw an amazing transition after about 15 games, it started to read the midlane much easier and allowed me to get in much deeper and open up the lane.
The versatility that this ball shows is impressive. It responds well to hand position changes and allows for multiple lines and angles while maintaining drive and power at the pins. The Iron is the first ball out of my bag, and to be totally honest, unless the lanes burn up completely I don't feel that I need to put it down all night. With this sample of what they have to offer, I look forward to more releases from Lord Field.
