haven't thrown it myself but from what i see it would be the sure lock.
alpha crux has gi16 coverstock and surelock has gi17, both have same finish and are solids, both have asymmetric cores. from another brand i would say the jackal ghost or gauntlet.
can i AXE you a question

I'm also curious on this. Alpha Crux seemed to be a bit less compared to most high end balls while still reading the midlane and shape downlane on some of the higher volume patterns. Sure Lock and Gauntlet aren't even close in my opinion.

Sure Lock = not close? Would you explain? More ball or less? I'm sorry I missed the Alpha and looking for options also.

i picked the gauntlet and jackal ghost from a comparison on bowling this month. as for the sure lock i figured it would be a stronger step up from the alpha crux

Part of what made the Alpha so great is that it didn't hook a ton. Definitely hooked, but the way it saw the lane was much truer than most high end balls. Think bigger IQ Tour that goes through the pins better. The Sure Lock is earlier and more overall. It hooks everywhere. For tournaments (or even league), hook everywhere can get you into trouble.

SneakyPETE, I appreciate your effort and it makes sense. But in this case, a step up and different shape kinda defeats the purpose as a replacement.

Call me crazy, but the Hyroad Nano shapes like the Alpha . . just not as strong.  The numbers are an order of magnitude different, but still.  Phaze 2 actually isn't terribly different either, might actually be closest.

I've had both the Alpha Crux and the Sure Lock.  The Sure Lock is slightly longer and slightly sharper in the back end than the Alpha Crux.  Also, the Sure Lock will hook a board or 2 more out of box.  Overall, the difference isn't off the charts - they're both strong asymmetric solids.

If I wanted to get a similar reaction out of a Sure Lock vs the Alpha Crux I would drill the Sure Lock with a slightly smaller drill angle and and slightly bigger VAL angle as compared to the Alpha Crux to get a similar ball motion.  Then I would fine tune with surface if needed.

I just noticed that BTM actually has the ratings really close for the Alpha and HRN with the HRN being a bit softer on the backend.
