1 pair, 2 oil patterns?
« on: March 18, 2017, 03:10:45 PM »
So there's a tournament in the San Diego area. It's 8 games scratch. They're doing it where one lane will be a 52 foot pattern and the other will be a 35 foot pattern. They've already said which lane is which pattern, I just can't remember what lane had what pattern.

Has anyone seen anything like this? I'm going to sign up, I think it'll be fun.

Ya, it's fun doing tournaments like that occasionally. I did one in Vegas that was a heavy house shot on one lane and a 26 foot pattern on the other

where I'm from, my friend runs the bowling scene from leagues to international events to olympics....... anyway he sets up his leagues with two different patterns. one short, one long world pattern. Also all their leagues don't have any wall shots... I believe the cheetah is a regular shot for most of the leagues there.

budweiser, pepsi, and some other companies sponsor some leagues.... I could be wrong, it's been 3 years since I last visited.
Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

So the left lane will be a 52 foot "badger" shot and the right will be a 35 foot "boardwalk" shot. I really hate the names they give these oil patterns

Or, mess with everyone and put the long pattern on the right lane so the ball return messes with everyone.

I think I will be bowling this event (2 hour drive 1 way)... cashing odds are very good and it already sounds like fun. Would hate to miss out on it as there doesn't seem like any similar format coming up locally :P

I can only imagine how crowded the ball returns will be.

I'd say the opposite. If the shorter pattern is on the right lane, either they are going to ball down to urethane and go up the lane, or may be stuck with lofting or wheeling it.

If that's the case, they also better hope that the ball return isn't above ground. People may come out of that building with a few broken legs. ;)

But on 52 feet, you're playing fallback. Gotta get left for that!

that's a good point! I do remember that tournament Haugen won against Larsen in Vegas.. that was a near 45 - 50ft pattern, wasn't it?

I guess they better learn how to stand up on their knee, like Gene Stus!

Our Sport league is about to start (roll-offs) and every year they use two different patterns on both lanes; look forward to this challenge. Did it 2 yrs ago, and was very unprepared, this time  ready for action. ;)
