Another Reason For Declining League Membership
« on: September 25, 2016, 01:27:27 AM »
Someone was asking me if I had seen a fellow league bowler from last year around and I said I hadn't, so I asked someone who knew him.  The reason surprised me.

Apparently he has a felony record so he can no longer bowl at our center.  Anyone who can't pass the background check can't get to the center.  Then I was told about several other bowlers who are no longer bowling for the same reason.  Never had considered that as a reason before.

I bowl on a military installation, so you have to have a pass to get on and that involves a background check.

That also makes it a pretty low crime place.

Thanks for clarifying.  I was starting to wonder about your "country club" center, but that makes perfect sense being on a military installation.   So...  how did you get in? ;) :D

I worked my way in.  :)

When I first got here, it used to be an 'open' installation, it was not completely fenced in.  They used to find illegals roaming across it.  Since 9/11 they have put up a complete fence around the place and now you have to show a military ID or pass to get on whereas before all it took was your drivers license.

We lost a lot of league bowlers when they first instituted the pass system and a few more since they started doing the background checks as a requirement for the pass.

Never knew they did 'background checks' on bowlers .. don't they have to advise you before they do that??

Prior to the start of any league "Special Event" military bowlers may invite GUESTS". Those guests should have received a form from their military sponsor a month prior to the start of any league. Those guests can either accept the terms of participation or decline. It's not a right to be able to bowl on a military installation. It's a privilege.
