ball recommendation for 15 year old daughter....
« on: September 15, 2014, 04:41:26 PM »
Hi gang, my daughter (15) uses 3 balls, a Freakin' Frantic, Orbit Extreme, and a white dot. I am looking for something to replace the Orbit.  She loves the ball, but I have been noticing that it doesn't carry the way it used to, and it is about 8 years old and been deoiled and resurfaced a few times, and I think it is time for it to be retired.

Her FF is plenty strong for her, so looking for the ball to go under this and above her spareball.  I'm thinking RG SHOUT, but also looking at the WIPEOUT.  Any other suggestions?

I would keep a couple things in mind, but it looks like you are on the right path with the choices you are considering.

Many people think a stronger ball will produce a stronger reaction for most women, who generally have lower ball speed and rotation than men. However, the stronger ball burns up the energy too early and does not compliment their game.

Usually the entry / mid level pieces are overlooked and these should be the ones targeted, like you mentioned the Shout and Wipe Out which I feel is the direction to go. Personally, I like the Lights Out in place of the Wipe Out, and the Scream over the Shout.

I would ask your pro shop operator to watch your daughter for a couple frames for a recommendation. Tell him what you are looking for and what works well for her now.

Be wary if the suggestion is a hook monster like the Sinister, or Mastermind, go to a different shop for a second opinion.

I took my kids to the pro shop yesterday and had a conversation with the owner.  He suggested the Scream over the Shout, but also threw in the PunchOut (didn't recommend the WipeOut for her), or the Tropicals.  He did say that there is not that much of a noticable difference in strength/motion between the Scream and Shout.  Since her Freakin' Frantic is a pearl, and her Orbit Extreme is a solid, I kind of leaned towards the Shout, which is a solid.  We let her have the final decision and she chose the Shout.  Thank you for all of your insight and suggestions.

A lot depends on her ball speed and release.  Too may of the top end hook monsters don't match up with most bowlers releases, let alone a 15 year old girl so I too would recommend something in the mid price range.  Also, if you do go with a solid, don't be afraid to tweak the surface to match her speed and release.

Her ball speed is about 10-11, and the FF turns a lot for her because of that.  I really don't think a high end ball will work for her.  I did go with the solid, and also have a ball spinner so I can play with the surface for her.  She going to practice today and has a competition tomorrow, so we will see how it goes.
