Linds vs 3G (size comparison)
« on: October 27, 2012, 08:04:34 PM »
I have worn Linds all my life and want to get a pair of 3G Sport Deluxes.  My question is:  For those that have made the switch from Linds to 3G, was the size the same or did you have to get a different size?  Unfortunately I dont think anyone in my area sells 3Gs so I cant try them on before I order.

I used to wear the Linds Exxxtras in a size 11EE for a number of years (10?), the same size as my Rockports and New Balance shoes, sneakers, running shoes. Over the years I gained a little weight and my shoe size went to an 11 1/2. That is the size I got in 3G's Tour Ultras, about 2 years ago, when I went to replace my Linds. I have been able to use the 3G's without needing a wide version of them. I think they are made a little wider than a true medium, either that or the Kangaroo leather is much more flexible than cow leather.

I wear heavy winter socks in the 3Gs. When I wear thinner summer socks, they seem a little loose on me.

I cant speak for Linds TwoHand, but I made the switch from dexters to 3Gs and love my 3G's. The drawback that I had heard was you needed a half size bigger because the shoe runs narrow, but I ordered the same size and they fit pretty well. I can imagine with there cannot be too much of a change between the two.

I've heard 3G's in the past haven't held up too well compared to the other high performance shoes on the market. Is it because the Kangeroo leather is too soft? Mind you I heard this like 6 yrs ago and I would imagine they hold up much better than shoes past.

Not that I'm aware of. Outside of the toe cap issue in my area, which has been remedied.

The Tour Ultras I believe are the only ones that use the kangaroo leather.  I could be wrong though.  When I ran a pro shop full time about 6 years ago, I believe there was an issue not only with the toe caps; but also getting replacements.  I have not heard any issues since then; especially considering how many threads there have been over the past year or two about which should are the best out there in reference to comfort.

I've had my Tour Ultras for 8 years. The quality and comfort are both amazing.  The only issue is I drag my my foot so I've had to replace my toe cap which was easy.  I don't think I will wear any other brand of shoe.

I went from Linds Exxxtras size 9-1/2EE to Ultra Tour size 9-1/2.  Seems to fit good, maybe the kangaroo leather does stretch more.

Only issues I have had in the two years I have wore them, the shoelaces only lasted a year (seems quick for only wearing the shoes for a few hours three times a week) and one of the metal shoelace holders broke when I was tying the shoe once.  I had to do a quick repair with my Leathermans but I don't know how long that will last.

Thanks for all the replies.  I remember trying on a pair when I was at Baton Rouge and should have bought them then.  Regretting that I didnt.  You responses give me a good idea what to order.  Thanks again!!
