Buzz words that piss you off?

1) "Smooth"- Look, most every ball is smooth when you don't the following: Elbow it, claw all over it, bend over at the release point and hit up on the ball while it's out in front of you.

I'll start with that.

PIECE-When talking about a new ball.
PILL-Also a new ball reference.

"Piece" has just ascended to the top of my list. I absolutely HATE when people refer to balls as piece or "she".

I'm crashing that party.

I alway wondered why you would type piece when you can type ball.

"I MISSED MY MARK!"

Also, I'll watch some bowlers hit 8 board at the arrows and strike!! Then ask them where their target is.... "second arrow"

In all fairness, it doesn't matter where you target as long as you are hitting the same spot consistently. Now, if they believe they are actually hitting 10 rather than 8, then that's another story. But in the end, they are still being consistent.

Perceived mark and true mark may not always be the same.

I did it once in a review. Then, when I read my own review, I realized just how bad it was.

I thought it would be cool.  I WAS WRONG.

Additive

Or even "hybrid"

"hits like a truck"

Yes hybrid as well. Marketing at it's finest or people at their dumbest it's hard to say.

To quote a manufacturer ball reaction video "we've never seen this kind of reaction out of an asymmetric hybrid bowling ball before. ".  ???

they don't hit the same spot. most don't even know where their ball passes at two point at least. With these handicap bowlers, if I put a nickle 40' down lane and ask them to hit, they'll miss it half the time. If I asked them to hit the second or third arrow then the nickle at the spot @ 40', they get even worse. (Great drill for side action with other bowlers....)

I was challenge long time ago by coach Pete Somoff and it's a great practice drill if the house lets you do it.

I have a guy I bowl with that, when transition begins, he refers to it as them starting to "bone up".

Example:
Me - "Man, they're starting to break down some, I'm going to have to consider moving left or balling down."
Teammate - "Yeah, I don't know......I gotta wait till they bone up a little and then I'll adjust."

I don't have an issue with saying a lane is "bone dry" per se, but that term should be reserved for an extreme condition.  Not as a term to describe transition.

I wouldn't say it "pisses me off"........but mildly tilting is likely appropriate.

This, all of this. The only buzz words and phrases that really make me roll my eyes are those found in reviews/marketing by manufacturers and by staffers that are only in it just to hit their contract quota.

Solid, hybrid, and pearl is kind of up there too but at least the manufacturers usually make the balls to fit the perceived motions of those three designations. Not all the time, but solids are usually the earliest, pearls are the longest, and hybrids fall somewhere between the prior two.

"Negative pin", who cares where the pin is in relation to the grip center, that's not important.  It's a running joke with my teammates to say that to me as often as possible because they know how much I like it...lol

"I need to move a 1/2 a board to get the 10 out!"

OK, that's funny, maddening, and sad.

Yeah no kidding, move half a board but they consistently miss 3 left at the arrows.

"Keeps the pins low"

Completely BS term.  Every ball hits every pin at the same height.  Pins don't magically shoot up in the air or stay low because of your core/cover combination.

Sorry to disagree, but yes, they do. Mostly it's milder balls that do not throw the pins with massive force; they seem to keep the pins low because they hit less hard. BUT nevertheless, they seem to move the pins enough so they fall quite well. The old Visionary Blue/Green Centaur is an example of that.

When it hits the pins, it barely seems to touch them and they fall as if they can't get out of the way fast enough. Its hit is nothing like the really strong balls, Locks and No Rules; yet the pins fall with surprising efficiency.

I cannot say that I know why this happens; it just does.  This is the result of watching this ball do this for almost 15 years now.
