Can you become your environment?
« on: April 24, 2014, 12:05:20 PM »
I bowl on a more lighter drier side house compared to the ones I bowled at. Also, even many tourney's I've bowl in tend to be drier side too.

I had a more up the back kind of release. My rotation was no more than 45*, hand position 5 - 6 o'clock and it was natural. Now I'm struggling to even do this simple release I once had. I have more side rotation and I'm early on the down swing. I've been bowling on a "drier" house for the last several years. And I think I"ve changed because of it. (well one of the reasons) Granted I was gone for a year, but looking at videos prior to my leave, I've been aware of my release.

I took recent videos of myself and I look much more improved on my approach to the line, but I feel it's a waste of improvement when my release looks so weak. My hand turns as it reaches my back pocket, and I'm no longer "under" the ball like was before. I tried letting my forearm/elbow lead my swing, but I end up throwing an end over end straight ball lol..... I don't know what to do....

Yes you can you make small adjustments over time do the equipment and the type of surfaces you get used too. This is especially true if you commonly bowl at the same centers or use the same ball for long periods. I was an old urethane guy who hooked it a lot and had a high rotation. I recently changed over to a resin ball and when I first started throwing it I really had to raise my speed to keep it where I wanted it. I noticed after about 2 months of throwing the new ball my rotations were down and I was putting the ball where I wanted with less effort. I asked my coach about it was afraid the ball was absorbing up too much oil already and know he showed me at what points I had changed my release without me realizing it. I would suggest working on staying behind the ball and trying to accelerate your arm through your release as some ways of restoring some of your rpm's or just don't worry about it I have found I am more accurate the way I am now and just considering buying a little more aggressive ball.

Absolutely!
I went through the same thing when I moved to the Midwest where I was practicing on undressed lanes and bowling tournaments on wood.  My "natural" speed and axis rotation changed greatly from bowling on beat up wood lanes so that it took a bit of tweaking to score again once I moved back to the West Coast.
